WD_BLACK C50 1TB Xbox Expansion Card for $99? Verify This Deal Before You Buy

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The WD_BLACK C50 1TB Expansion Card is made for Xbox Series X|S, but the advertised $99 price is not confirmed by the available retailer listings. Captured Walmart and Best Buy listings showed $149.99 and $139.99, respectively; a June 2026 report also listed it at $149.99 at Best Buy. If you find it for $99, verify the exact model, seller, condition and checkout total before ordering. At that price, it would be a strong buy for players who want to run Series X|S-optimized games from expanded storage.

What is the $99 deal supposed to include?

The product is the WD_BLACK C50 1TB Expansion Card for Xbox, not a standard WD_BLACK USB drive or a PC NVMe SSD. It is a compact, proprietary card designed for the dedicated Storage Expansion port on Xbox Series X and Series S. WD’s product documentation describes it as plug-and-play and compatible with those consoles: WD_BLACK C50 product data sheet.

Retail listings identify the 1TB model; Best Buy’s listing calls it the WD C50 1TB Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S. Check that the listing specifically says 1TB and WD_BLACK C50. Similar names can refer to different capacities or ordinary USB storage.

Is the card actually $99 right now?

The $99 price cannot be confirmed from the available retailer captures. Walmart showed a $149.99 reference price, while one Best Buy capture showed $139.99. Windows Central reported a $149.99 Best Buy price on June 29, 2026, and noted an earlier stock issue. These are dated price signals, not confirmation of the current checkout price.

Why choose an expansion card instead of a USB drive?

The main advantage is not simply extra capacity: it is the ability to keep compatible Xbox Series X|S-optimized games on expanded storage and play them directly. Xbox says its Storage Expansion Cards connect through the dedicated port and are designed to maintain the internal SSD performance level. That is Xbox’s description of the product category, not an independent benchmark of the WD card: Xbox’s storage primer.

Storage type Play Series X|S-optimized games directly? Best use Trade-off
WD_BLACK C50 or another compatible expansion card Designed for direct play of optimized games, as well as storing a broad range of Xbox games Keeping optimized games installed and ready to launch Usually costs more per advertised terabyte than USB storage; uses the expansion slot
USB 3.x SSD Many optimized games must be moved to internal storage or a compatible expansion card to launch Storing games, playing supported backward-compatible titles, or transferring optimized games Uses a USB port; optimized games may need to be moved before play
USB hard drive Many optimized games must be moved before play Lower-cost archival storage, older games and media Slower transfers and loading than an SSD

USB storage remains useful: Xbox supports USB 3.1 hard drives and SSDs for storage, and compatible Xbox One, Xbox 360 and original Xbox games can be played from USB storage. The practical limitation is that many Series X|S-optimized titles need the internal SSD or a compatible expansion card to run. See Xbox Series X storage information and the Xbox storage primer.

Will it work with your Xbox?

Yes, the C50 is designed for both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. It uses the dedicated expansion-card slot at the rear of those consoles; it is not a general-purpose USB drive and is not an expansion-card accessory for Xbox One. Xbox’s Series S information and Series X information describe the compatible console generation and expansion-card approach.

The advertised capacity is 1TB, but the console will show less usable space after formatting and system overhead. The precise free-space figure depends on the console’s installed system data and software.

How to install and manage the card

  1. Turn on the Xbox Series X or Series S and locate the rectangular Storage Expansion port on the rear of the console.
  2. Remove the card’s protective cover if one is fitted, then insert the C50 fully into the port.
  3. Wait for the console to recognize and prepare the card. Follow any on-screen prompt.
  4. Open Settings → System → Storage devices to confirm it appears and manage games. Menu wording can change with system updates.
  5. If you want new games to install there by default, select the card in storage settings and choose the available default-install option. Use the console’s storage controls to move or copy existing games.

If the console does not recognize it, remove and reinsert the card firmly, restart the console, and check the connector for visible damage. If needed, fully shut down the console and test again. Do not disassemble the card or console. If a game still will not launch, check whether it requires internal or expansion-card storage; storage space does not provide game ownership or Game Pass access.

Is $99 a good price compared with Seagate or USB storage?

Xbox’s U.S. Seagate expansion-card page listed 1TB, 2TB and 4TB capacities and showed an estimated retail price of $199.99 for the 1TB version in the captured listing; Xbox notes that retailer pricing and availability can vary. That makes a verified $99 C50 price especially appealing, but compare against current live prices rather than treating the Seagate reference price as a guaranteed street price: Xbox’s Seagate expansion-card page.

WD_BLACK C50 price signal Nominal cost per advertised terabyte What the evidence establishes
$99 $99 Proposed deal price; not confirmed by the available retailer captures
$139.99 $139.99 One captured Best Buy listing
$149.99 $149.99 Walmart reference price and a June 29, 2026 Best Buy price reported by Windows Central

Those figures divide price by the advertised 1TB capacity; they do not account for usable formatted space. A USB SSD may cost less per terabyte, but that is not an apples-to-apples substitute if you want optimized games ready to launch without transferring them. For a library made mostly of older games or titles you are willing to archive, USB storage can be the more economical choice.

Who should buy it—and who should pass?

Buy if the $99 checkout price is real

  • You regularly play Series X|S-optimized games and want to keep more of them installed and playable.
  • You own a 512GB Series S and often need to clear room for new games.
  • The listing is for a new 1TB C50 from a seller you trust, and the final price is still $99.

Skip it or choose USB storage instead

  • You mainly need inexpensive archival space or play mostly backward-compatible games.
  • You are comfortable moving optimized games back to console storage before playing them.
  • The supposed deal is a third-party, used or open-box listing, or turns out to be a different capacity or product.
  • You need more than 1TB and find a better-value higher-capacity option.

If the $99 offer has expired, do not treat that price as a reason to buy at a higher checkout total. Compare the live C50 and Seagate prices against the convenience of direct play, or choose a USB SSD or hard drive if storage and archiving—not launch-ready optimized games—is your priority.
