Using Zelle inside your bank or credit union’s app? Contact that institution first—especially for a missing, disputed, unauthorized, or scam payment. Zelle’s official support number is 1-844-428-8542. Written help is available through Zelle’s online contact form, which replies by email. A generally available public Zelle live-chat channel could not be verified.
The standalone Zelle app stopped sending and receiving money on April 1, 2025. Most users now access Zelle through a participating U.S. bank or credit union.
The fastest way to get the right Zelle help
The correct contact depends on where you use Zelle:
- Bank or credit-union app or website: Call the number on the back of your debit card or use the institution’s official support channel. The bank or credit union handles enrollment, payment investigations, account restrictions, limits, fees, and reimbursement decisions. See Zelle’s support guidance and its contact page.
- General Zelle support: Use the official phone number or online form described below for questions that are not resolved by your financial institution.
Never trust a phone number from a sponsored search result, unsolicited text, social-media post, or unexpected caller. Navigate directly to Zelle’s security page or use the number printed on your debit card.
Zelle customer-service phone number
Official number
Zelle’s official pages list 1-844-428-8542. It can help with certain Zelle enrollment and service questions, but it does not replace your bank’s fraud or customer-service department when your transaction ran through that bank’s app. The number appears on Zelle’s enrollment FAQ and legacy support material at zellepay.com/support/contact-support.
#1 Best Overall
Hours
The legacy support page describes phone support as generally 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Time, seven days a week, excluding New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. An older FAQ lists 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Time instead. Because the pages are inconsistent and hours can change, check the current support page before calling.
What to have ready
- Your bank or credit union’s name
- The email address or U.S. mobile number enrolled with Zelle
- Transaction date, amount, recipient name, and payment or confirmation ID
- A screenshot of any error message
- A short timeline and whether the payment was authorized, unauthorized, pending, completed, or canceled
Do not disclose a password, debit-card PIN, full card number, Social Security number, or one-time security code to an unsolicited caller or in an online form.
Contact Zelle by email through its online form
Zelle does not clearly publish a general customer-service email address. The legitimate written route is its online support form; Zelle uses the email address you provide to respond. The legacy page says replies generally arrive within two business days. That is a response estimate, not a guaranteed resolution time.

- Go directly to Zelle’s support page.
- Select the relevant help category or open the contact form.
- Enter your name, email address, mobile number, Zelle Tag (if applicable), issue type, and description.
- Include the date, amount, recipient, and transaction reference when available. The legacy form asks for a description between 50 and 1,000 characters.
- Submit the form and monitor the email inbox—and its spam folder—for a reply.
Keep the description factual and concise. Redact account numbers and other unnecessary sensitive information.
Does Zelle offer live chat?
A standard, publicly available Zelle live-chat service could not be verified on the current Help Center and support pages. Do not rely on articles promising a permanent “Zelle chat” link. If a chat control appears, confirm that the address is an official Zelle or bank domain before entering information.
When your bank or credit union must handle the issue
Contact the financial institution directly for:
- A payment sent through its app or online banking
- Unauthorized transactions or suspected account takeover
- Missing, pending, failed, duplicated, or incorrectly credited payments
- Enrollment, phone-number, or email problems inside its app
- Sending or receiving limits, eligibility, fees, account ownership, or reimbursement
- Deactivating a Zelle profile connected to that institution
Call the number on your debit card, an official statement, or the bank’s official website. If you cannot access the banking app, use those independent sources—not a number supplied by someone who contacted you.

Report a Zelle scam or unauthorized payment
Act immediately
- Call the bank or credit union’s fraud department. Explain whether the payment was unauthorized or whether you were deceived into authorizing it.
- Secure the account. If compromise is possible, ask about changing online-banking credentials, disabling the enrolled mobile number, and securing the account.
- Preserve evidence. Save transaction details, messages, emails, phone numbers, screenshots, and a timeline.
- Submit Zelle’s scam report when applicable through Zelle’s report-a-scam page.
- Report broader fraud to appropriate government or law-enforcement authorities when the circumstances warrant.
Fraud versus a scam
Unauthorized fraud means someone accessed the account and sent a payment without permission. An authorized scam means you were tricked into sending it—for example, by an impersonator or a fake-goods seller. The bank investigates and decides any reimbursement. Certain qualifying imposter scams may be eligible, but no refund is guaranteed.
A completed payment generally cannot be canceled or reversed once the enrolled recipient receives it. Cancellation may be available only while the recipient has not enrolled; check the transaction activity for a cancellation option. Zelle does not provide purchase protection comparable to a credit-card purchase-protection program.
If someone calls claiming to be Zelle
Hang up and initiate contact yourself. Caller ID can be spoofed. Genuine support should not require your online-banking password, debit-card PIN, or one-time authentication code.

Common Zelle problems and the correct route
Payment pending or failed
For a bank-linked payment, ask the bank to check the transaction status and account restrictions. Do not send a second payment until the status is clear.
Payment sent to the wrong person
Contact the bank immediately. Recovery is not assured, particularly after an enrolled recipient receives the funds.

Email or phone number already enrolled elsewhere
Enrollment can be tied to a particular email address or U.S. mobile number at another participating institution. Do not casually create a second profile; ask the bank or Zelle support how to move or update the enrollment. Zelle requires participating U.S. bank accounts, and international numbers and landlines are not accepted for mobile enrollment. See Zelle’s enrollment FAQ.
Lost phone or inaccessible banking app
Call the bank from an independently verified number and ask it to secure online banking and change or disable the enrolled number.
Your bank does not offer Zelle
Zelle is designed for participating U.S. financial institutions. The former standalone app is no longer a normal sending-and-receiving channel after April 1, 2025; ask your bank whether it participates rather than downloading an unofficial substitute.
What Zelle support cannot promise
- Zelle cannot override a bank’s account, fraud, or reimbursement decision.
- Completed payments to enrolled recipients generally cannot be reversed.
- There is no guaranteed purchase-protection refund for a transaction dispute.
- The online form’s two-business-day figure is a response estimate, not a guaranteed resolution time.
- Live chat is not an established, dependable public channel.
