Vietnam’s GDP Grew 9.95% Year on Year in Q3 2026

Vietnam’s 9.95% Q3 GDP growth estimate is year on year, not quarter on quarter. Here’s how it fits with nine-month growth, sector contributions and the government’s Q4 goal.

Vietnam’s economy grew an estimated 9.95% year on year in July–September 2026, the National Statistics Office reported. That is a comparison with Q3 2025, not growth from Q2 to Q3. The estimate was presented by National Statistics Office director Nguyen Thi Huong at an October 3 press conference, according to VietnamPlus.

How Q3 compares with earlier periods

The reported year-on-year growth rate rose in each of the first three quarters. The nine-month figure covers January through September and is cumulative; it is not another quarterly rate.

Period Real GDP growth, year on year What the figure measures
Q1 2026 8.15% January–March compared with the same months of 2025
Q2 2026 8.81% April–June compared with the same quarter of 2025
Q3 2026 9.95% July–September compared with the same quarter of 2025
January–September 2026 9.01% The first nine months compared with January–September 2025

The quarterly estimates and nine-month total were reported by VietnamPlus and Vietnam Government News. The reports do not provide the detailed methodology, seasonal adjustment, or revision schedule, so the figures should be read as the estimates those outlets attributed to the National Statistics Office.

Which sectors contributed most to nine-month growth?

Vietnam Government News reported these January–September sector growth rates and shares of total value-added growth:

Sector Growth rate Contribution to total value-added growth
Agriculture, forestry and fisheries 4.02% 5.35%
Industry and construction 11.21% 49.62%
Services 8.96% 45.03%

Growth rate and contribution are different measures: the first describes how quickly a sector expanded; the second describes its share of overall value-added growth. Industry and construction had the largest contribution in the government account. The services growth rate is not consistent across the two reports: VietnamPlus gives 8.69%, while Vietnam Government News gives 8.96%. Both report a 45.03% contribution for services, so the conflicting growth-rate figures should not be treated as settled.

What expenditure figures add

VietnamPlus also reported Q3 year-on-year growth in expenditure-side components: final consumption rose 8.96%, gross capital formation 21.39%, exports of goods and services 23.27%, and imports 28.75%. These are reported component growth rates, not shares of GDP or proof that any one component caused the overall result.

What the government’s Q4 target means

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung said at an October 3 Cabinet meeting with localities: “To achieve this year’s double-digit growth goal, GDP growth in the fourth quarter must exceed 12.5 percent.” Vietnam Government News reported the statement. The above-12.5% figure is the pace the government says is required to reach its annual goal, not a forecast of Q4 growth.

Other indicators reported for January–September

Vietnam Government News said the industrial production index grew 12.3% year on year and goods trade turnover reached US$888.02 billion, up 30.4%. It also reported that imports exceeded exports, leaving a goods trade deficit of US$19.42 billion. These figures offer economic context, but do not by themselves establish what drove GDP growth.
