Vertex announced on October 1, 2026, that Debanjan Saha, CEO of DataRobot, will join its board of directors, with his service scheduled to take effect October 7. Vertex’s board elected him on September 30 as a Class II director for a term running through the 2028 annual meeting, subject to earlier termination as described in the company’s filing. The board determined that he is independent under applicable Nasdaq listing standards and SEC rules.
What Vertex announced
The appointment gives Vertex a director with senior leadership experience in enterprise AI, data analytics, and cloud services. Vertex says that experience fits its effort to become an “AI-first” company and help customers change how indirect tax and compliance work gets done. That is the company’s rationale for the appointment, not evidence that the appointment has already improved Vertex’s products or results.
In its October 1 announcement, Vertex reported that the appointment would increase the board from nine members to ten, with eight independent. Those figures are the company’s announcement-date snapshot.
When Saha’s board service begins and what Class II means
Vertex’s Form 8-K says the board elected Saha on September 30, 2026, following a recommendation from the Nominating and Governance Committee. His service is scheduled to begin October 7, 2026. The filing identifies him as a Class II director and sets the term to expire at Vertex’s 2028 Annual Meeting of Stockholders, unless his service ends sooner or until a successor is duly elected and qualified.

For this seat, “Class II” identifies the board class and its scheduled annual-meeting term endpoint. The filing specifies the 2028 meeting; it does not, by itself, establish additional details about Vertex’s full board-class structure.
Who Debanjan Saha is
Saha has been DataRobot’s CEO since September 2022. Vertex says he has led the company’s shift from a machine-learning pioneer toward enterprise agentic AI. Before DataRobot, he was vice president and general manager of Data Analytics at Google Cloud and vice president and general manager at Amazon Web Services, where he led database services. He began his career in executive and technical leadership roles at IBM.

Vertex also says Saha serves on the board of Sorenson Communications and its audit committee. He is an IEEE Fellow and a Distinguished Member of ACM. He holds a master’s degree and PhD in computer science from the University of Maryland and a bachelor of technology in computer science from IIT Kharagpur.
Why Vertex says it appointed him
Vertex CEO Christopher Young framed Saha’s value in terms of experience navigating major technology shifts: “Debanjan’s experience at the forefront of several major technological transitions, including cloud and now AI, brings the unique perspective that we need to meet the moment.” Young said that perspective could inform Vertex’s AI-first ambitions and its work on indirect tax and compliance.

Saha likewise described indirect tax as a potential area for AI applications, saying it touches nearly every enterprise transaction. He also praised Vertex’s customer trust, tax expertise, and global footprint. These are statements from Vertex’s announcement; they express the company’s strategy and Saha’s view, rather than reporting measured customer outcomes.
Vertex describes its business as covering the transaction lifecycle for indirect tax and compliance, including tax determination, e-invoicing, reporting, filing, and audit defense. It says its offering brings together tax expertise, global tax and compliance knowledge, and embedded integrations. Vertex also claimed in the release that more than 60% of Fortune 500 companies trust it; the cited announcement does not provide an independent methodology for that figure.
