It marked a shift in product emphasis toward business-to-business marketing, not proof that Versium abandoned consumer marketing. The product is now styled Versium REACH and is presented as a broader identity-resolution, data-enrichment, and audience platform.
Why Versium moved toward B2B marketing
Versium’s July 15, 2019 launch addressed a gap the company saw between consumer and business marketing. Consumer marketers could draw on extensive ecommerce and social data, while B2B marketers often had less visibility into the individual people who influence a purchase. Knowing a company’s industry or size does not necessarily reveal which decision-makers to reach.
Versium’s stated answer was to bring more individualized targeting to B2B campaigns by connecting professional information with consumer or demographic signals. The distinction mattered because social platforms offered detailed targeting while retaining control of the underlying audience data. Versium aimed to provide marketers with data they could use across advertising and other channels. GeekWire described the move as a pivot; the reporting supports a change in market and product focus, not a complete corporate break from consumer marketing. GeekWire’s 2019 report framed Reach as a tool for small and midsize B2B marketers.
What Versium Reach did at launch
The 2019 service was designed to help marketers identify business decision-makers, build audiences, and use them in advertising or outreach. A marketer could bring an existing customer or prospect list, or define a target from scratch using criteria such as industry, company size, revenue, and job seniority. GeekWire also reported that Reach used artificial intelligence to find people resembling selected targets; that describes the product’s positioning, not independently established performance.

For example, a B2B marketer could start with a list of customers, specify the types of companies and senior roles they wanted to reach, and build a prospect audience for an advertising or sales workflow. Reach was not simply presented as a static directory of business contacts: its proposition was to enrich records and create audiences based on a combination of professional and consumer data.
How the current REACH workflows work
Versium now describes REACH as a platform for identity resolution, enrichment, and audience activation. Its current documentation outlines several distinct workflows:
Rank #2
- Ideal for Gifting
- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
- Persona audience: Define target roles, departments, geography, company size, and revenue without necessarily uploading an input file. Versium’s persona-audience guide describes this approach.
- Account-based audience: Start with a set of companies and identify additional contacts or decision-makers associated with those accounts. See Versium’s account-based audience guide.
- Consumer-to-business append: Start with consumer information and seek associated business details, such as job title, company, domain, business phone, revenue, employee count, industry, and SIC or NAICS data, where available. The fields are described in Versium’s consumer-to-business append documentation.
- Online audience append: Add hashed online emails and other identifiers for advertising and ad-tech matching. Versium says these fields are not appropriate for direct email campaigns; its online audience documentation explains the restriction.
At a high level, these workflows involve supplying a list or defining a target, matching records against Versium’s data resources, appending available attributes, and creating an audience or export for a marketing workflow. A technical match is not the same as a complete or current record, a permissioned contact, or a person likely to buy.
What combining business and consumer data means
Versium’s current product language describes a B2B2C identity graph that connects professional and consumer views of people. The company says its graph contains more than 2 billion contact points and that REACH supports U.S.-specific marketing data. These are Versium’s claims about its product and data resources, not independent evidence that every identity link is accurate, current, or useful for a particular campaign. See Versium’s current product site.

Linking a professional identity to consumer attributes can help marketers build a more detailed audience, but it also makes careful data handling important. People can have multiple jobs, names, addresses, emails, or online identifiers, and those relationships can change. Buyers should assess the match fields, source and permitted use of data, and the quality requirements of the channel where they plan to activate it.
Leadership and company context in 2019
At the time of the launch, Dillana Lim was Versium’s CEO. GeekWire reported that she joined as chief operating officer in November 2018 before becoming CEO, and that she had been a founding member of TalentWise, acquired by SterlingBackCheck in 2016. Versium had been founded by former InfoSpace co-founders Chris Matty and Kevin Marcus.
Rank #4
GeekWire reported more than 25 employees and $3.7 million raised in two seed rounds at the time of the 2019 announcement. Those figures are historical snapshots, not current company metrics. The same report identified Infogroup, Dun & Bradstreet, TechTarget, and DiscoverOrg as competitors. It did not establish that Versium outperformed them or that their products were directly interchangeable.
How the 2019 launch compares with REACH today
Reach began as a B2B marketing service that promised audience creation and more precise targeting. Versium now presents REACH as a broader B2B2C platform covering persona and account-based audiences, data enrichment, validation, and activation across channels including email, telemarketing, digital advertising, social, display, and connected TV. The broader description is the company’s current positioning; the available material does not establish comparative campaign results or return on investment.

Versium’s help documentation says REACH covers business people and businesses in the United States. The company describes broader worldwide consumer and business data elsewhere, but that should not be mistaken for global REACH coverage. Its FAQ sets out the product’s coverage details at Versium’s business FAQ and FAQ for consumer data tools.

GeekWire reported that the 2019 agency model for Reach cost between $500 and $5,000. That is launch-era pricing, not a current quote. Versium’s pricing page, observed August 18, 2026, listed pay-as-you-go access starting at $125 per file, credit packages starting at $250, and annual subscriptions starting at $5,000 on its pricing table. The page also references other annual-plan figures in its FAQ, so its subscription descriptions do not align perfectly. Costs and included features vary by plan and volume; consult the live Versium pricing page for a current quote.
The same page showed match-credit rates varying by volume and made API and MCP access plan-dependent. It also described a free trial subject to business verification and testing-data restrictions. The page’s claim that customers are charged only for successful results does not establish that a matched record is accurate, complete, current, permissioned, or likely to convert.
Privacy, data quality, and channel limitations
- Match quality needs evaluation: Enrichment may add attributes when a record matches, but it does not by itself verify that a person is still at a company, that all fields are complete, or that the contact is sales-ready.
- Hashed audience fields are not email addresses for campaigns: Versium says online audience identifiers are intended for advertising and ad-tech matching, not direct email. Do not treat them as permission to send marketing email.
- Platform portability has limits: Versium says its audiences can be used across platforms rather than being confined to one advertising platform. Actual activation still depends on each destination’s accepted identifiers, match rules, policies, and audience thresholds; portability does not guarantee equal reach everywhere.
- Compliance remains the marketer’s responsibility: Versium identifies itself as a registered data broker and says it complies with CCPA and U.S. state regulations. Those are company statements, not a guarantee that a customer’s particular campaign complies with applicable law. Requirements depend on jurisdiction, purpose, legal basis or consent, channel, contracts, suppression duties, and opt-outs.
- EU data is restricted: Versium’s current site says it cannot provide or use personal data for EU residents because of regulatory restrictions. Buyers should confirm geographic eligibility for their specific use case.
For a U.S.-focused B2B team that has first-party records to enrich, needs account-based or persona audiences, and can evaluate data quality and channel permissions, REACH’s current scope is relevant to investigate. It is a weaker fit for a buyer requiring global REACH coverage, a ready-made permissioned email list, or independently audited performance comparisons. The launch’s significance was its attempt to apply identity resolution and audience-building techniques to B2B marketing; it was not evidence that better matching or better campaign results had already been proven.
