Verizon’s Three-Year Price Lock Isn’t a Bill Freeze: What Customers Need to Know

Verizon’s price lock protects a base network rate, while taxes, fees, discounts, perks and device credits can still change your bill. Here’s how the 2026 rules work.

Verizon’s price lock protects an eligible base service rate—not your total bill. Taxes, surcharges, expiring discounts, perks, device payments and other charges can still increase what you pay. Verizon introduced the policy on April 3, 2025, for myPlan mobile and myHome internet services, but 2026 eligibility language differs by plan and enrollment date.

What Verizon actually locks

Verizon’s guarantee applies to the base network-service rate: the recurring charge for an eligible mobile plan’s talk, text and data, or an eligible home-internet plan’s internet service. Verizon’s announcement describes the protection as applying to the network portion of the bill, not every line item (Verizon’s April 3, 2025 announcement).

In plain English: your base plan may be locked, but your total bill is not.

Bill component Covered by the price lock?
Base mobile network-plan rate Generally yes, subject to the plan’s eligibility and dates
Base home-internet rate Yes, for the applicable guarantee period
Taxes and government fees No
Carrier surcharges No
Streaming and other perks No
Auto Pay, bundle and other discounts No; eligibility can change
Promotional credits No
Device payments or device credits No
Third-party services No
Home equipment or setup charges No

This table reflects Verizon’s published terms, not a universal legal interpretation of every account.

Why a “locked” bill can still rise

Imagine a bill with a protected $80 base plan, a $10 Auto Pay discount, a $15 Mobile + Home discount, $12 in taxes and surcharges, a $10 perk and a phone promotion credit. The $80 rate can remain unchanged while the bill rises if Auto Pay is removed, a promotion ends, taxes change, the bundle no longer qualifies, the perk becomes chargeable or a device credit stops.

  • Auto Pay and paper-free billing savings can be lost if eligibility or payment arrangements change.
  • A promotional, trade-in or device credit can expire before the service guarantee.
  • The Mobile + Home discount depends on keeping qualifying services together. Verizon support pages describe a possible $15-per-month discount.
  • Perks and third-party subscriptions have their own prices and terms.
  • Taxes, government fees and surcharges are outside the guarantee.

Verizon’s home support material also describes Verizon Forward savings of up to $30 per month for qualifying customers. That is a separate savings program, not a protected part of the base rate (Verizon 5G Home FAQs).

Mobile eligibility is complicated in 2026

Verizon launched the original three-year guarantee for new and existing customers on eligible myPlan mobile and myHome internet plans. Current documentation now requires more care.

The June 16, 2026 date

Verizon’s Unlimited Plus FAQ says the three-year mobile guarantee is maintained for customers who enrolled in myPlan or switched to a new myPlan before June 16, 2026 (Verizon Unlimited Plus FAQ). That language suggests the original mobile offer may not apply identically to later enrollments.

Current pages do not line up perfectly

Verizon’s current unlimited-plan overview still displays three-year price-lock language (Verizon current unlimited plans), while the FAQ describes the pre-June 16 population. Do not assume that every customer enrolling after that date receives the same protection. Verify the exact plan, enrollment date and guarantee shown in your order summary or My Verizon account.

Plan changes

Verizon’s 2025 announcement said changing a myPlan would reset the lock for another three years. The later support wording makes plan-specific verification essential. Before changing anything, ask whether the change is treated as new enrollment, whether the existing guarantee survives and whether discounts or device credits remain.

Home internet has different guarantee periods

Verizon’s current 5G Home FAQ lists guarantees by plan:

Home plan Published guarantee
5G Home Three years
5G Home Plus Four years
5G Home Ultimate Five years

These periods protect the then-current base monthly internet rate. Discounts, promotions, perks, third-party services, equipment, setup and other additional charges remain outside the guarantee (Verizon 5G Home FAQs).

Verizon’s 5G Home page currently advertises service from $35 per month with Auto Pay and any Verizon mobile phone plan. That is an advertised starting price, not a universal all-in rate (Verizon 5G Home Internet).

Address and moving limits

5G and LTE Home availability is tied to a qualified service address. Verizon says the equipment and service are intended for that address, so do not treat the guarantee as automatically portable if you move (Verizon 5G Home FAQs). Verizon describes 5G Home service as having no annual contract, but that does not erase separate device-financing, equipment-return or promotional-credit obligations.

Does the lock prevent Verizon’s 2026 increases?

There is no single answer without identifying the plan and enrollment date. Some pre-June 16, 2026 myPlan customers appear to retain a three-year guarantee, while current plan pages continue to advertise price-lock language. A May 2026 report described a $5 Unlimited Ultimate increase, illustrating why you must determine whether an increase affected a protected base rate, a newer plan version, an excluded charge or an account outside the guarantee (TheStreet’s report).

Verizon’s published pages are not perfectly aligned. Treat the guarantee attached to your specific account as controlling, and save the written terms.

The “free phone” is a separate commitment

The 2025 launch paired the price guarantee with a free-phone promotion. “Free” generally means monthly bill credits over a 36-month device-financing period, subject to an eligible postpaid plan, trade-in and other offer conditions (Verizon’s announcement).

  • Leaving Verizon early can make the remaining device balance due.
  • Changing to an ineligible plan can stop future credits.
  • Upgrading early can alter or end the credit schedule.
  • A trade-in device usually cannot be recovered after the promotion is processed.

The service-rate guarantee does not lock the phone’s financing balance or its promotional credits. Check the current offer page because phone models, trade-in values and eligibility change.

Who benefits from the guarantee?

It is more useful when

  • You expect to stay with Verizon for the guarantee period.
  • The protected base rate is competitive with alternatives.
  • You have written confirmation of the guarantee and its end date.
  • Your savings come mainly from the base rate rather than temporary credits.
  • A mobile-and-home bundle is genuinely cheaper for your household.
  • You are not giving up a valuable grandfathered, employer, military, senior or loyalty discount.
  • Your home address has reliable Verizon capacity and performance.

It is less useful when

  • You frequently switch carriers or move addresses.
  • Your current legacy plan is cheaper.
  • Your bill depends heavily on expiring promotions, perks or device credits.
  • You need flexibility to change plans for features or upgrades.
  • A competing MVNO or broadband provider is cheaper after taxes and fees.
  • You would finance a phone for 36 months despite expecting to leave sooner.

Check your account before switching or changing plans

  1. Write down the exact mobile or home plan name and version.
  2. Find the guarantee’s start date and end date in My Verizon, the order summary or your confirmation email.
  3. Record the base monthly rate separately from taxes, fees and discounts.
  4. List every discount, perk and promotional credit, including its expiration date.
  5. Check the device-financing balance and the date each bill credit ends.
  6. Confirm whether Mobile + Home eligibility depends on keeping another service.
  7. Ask Verizon in writing whether the proposed change preserves the guarantee and existing credits.
  8. Save the order summary, chat transcript or confirmation page.

How it compares with alternatives

Compare the type of protection, not just the advertised monthly number:

  • Traditional broadband promotions: May guarantee a rate for a set period but often limit the offer to new customers and exclude equipment, taxes and credits.
  • Fiber providers: Can offer simpler pricing and wired performance where available, but service is address-specific.
  • MVNOs and prepaid wireless: Often have lower base prices and more flexibility, but may not include Verizon’s postpaid priority, support or device promotions.
  • Other major carriers: T-Mobile and AT&T offer competing wireless and home services; compare local coverage, eligibility and total cost.
  • No switch: Compare your existing all-in bill with the guaranteed base rate before giving up a grandfathered plan.

Verizon’s 2025 announcement called its offer industry-first, but competitors and internet providers now market their own multi-year guarantees (HighSpeedInternet.com comparison). Avoid assuming Verizon is the only provider offering price certainty.

The Bottom Line

Verizon’s guarantee can protect you from increases to an eligible base mobile or home-internet rate, but it is not a three-year freeze on the bill. Taxes, fees, discounts, perks, promotions and phone financing can still change the amount charged. In 2026, mobile eligibility also depends on the plan and enrollment date—especially the June 16 cutoff—so verify the promise in your account before switching.
