Yes—some Verizon customers were offered 999GB of bonus data for $5 a month, but the promotion was a targeted offer reported in November 2021, not a public deal everyone could claim. Other customers reportedly saw a $10 price or a free version. As of September 2026, the available information does not establish that Verizon is still issuing this exact offer; check your own My Verizon account or get confirmation from Verizon before making a plan decision.
What Verizon’s 999GB offer actually included
The 2021 reports described 999GB of additional data each month, not 999GB total, a one-time data grant, or an unlimited plan. Some customer screenshots described the bonus as continuing while the customer remained on the current plan, but that wording came from reported account offers—not a universal Verizon guarantee. Droid Life’s November 8, 2021 report and Mobile Internet Resource Center’s coverage described it as a targeted promotion rather than a public plan.
999GB is close to 1TB, but the number did not mean Verizon had launched a standard 1TB plan. It was bonus data attached to qualifying legacy accounts, subject to the account’s plan and offer terms.
The price was not the same for everyone
Some customers reportedly saw $5 per month, others $10, and a few may have received the bonus at no charge. The $5 headline price applied to some offers; it was not a standard price available to every legacy-plan customer. Wirefly also reported variations in the offers.

Who was reportedly eligible
The reports described offers on older Verizon shared or tiered data plans, including Shared Data Plan – 5GB and 10GB, The New Verizon Plan’s S, M, and L tiers, The Verizon Plan, and MORE Everything. Verizon’s Bonus Data FAQ lists these legacy plan families in connection with bonus-data offers and notes that the plans are no longer available to add to accounts.
That list does not mean every customer on one of those plans qualified for the specific 999GB promotion. Eligibility was reported as selective and account-specific. The official FAQ describes Verizon’s broader bonus-data program; it does not confirm that the exact 999GB offer or its reported prices remain available.

How to check whether the offer is on your account
There was no general public signup page for the reported promotion. Use the account view and terms Verizon shows you rather than assuming an old article means you can add it now.
- Sign in to the My Verizon app or website as the account owner or an account manager. Verizon says those account roles can view promotion details.
- Review your account’s plan, features, promotions, and available add-ons. Check the Data Hub or Usage page for bonus-data information.
- Read the offer itself. Confirm the bonus amount, recurring monthly charge, start and end dates or duration, which lines it covers, and what happens if you change plans or features.
- Save a screenshot or confirmation showing the offer and its terms before accepting. Keep any confirmation email or text and note the date you accepted.
- If you expected bonus data but cannot see it, contact Verizon support while signed in as the account owner or account manager. The Bonus Data FAQ directs customers to support when expected data is missing.
If no offer appears, do not assume support can add this historic promotion manually. A current account offer or written confirmation from Verizon is the meaningful evidence of availability.

How Verizon bonus data works on eligible plans
Verizon says qualifying bonus data is added to the plan’s normal monthly allowance. It is generally used before the base monthly data on applicable plans and can be shared among lines on the account. It is for standard domestic monthly data use; it is not transferable and has no cash value. Verizon’s FAQ also says the referenced bonus-data program is not available to prepaid accounts.
Data-use order depends on the plan. For shared plans, Verizon’s mobile usage FAQ describes bonus data being used before monthly data, followed by carryover data, Data Boosts, and gifted data.

Hotspot use
In a Verizon Community response, Verizon support indicated that eligible bonus data on the relevant shared plan could be consumed by usage on or off a mobile hotspot. That is not a formal term sheet for every version of the 999GB promotion. Confirm hotspot treatment in the terms shown on your own account, especially before relying on it for a hotspot device or router.
Rollover and expiration
The 2021 reports said unused bonus data could carry over, and Verizon’s current bonus-data information recognizes carryover treatment on qualifying shared plans. That does not establish indefinite accumulation. Verizon’s Carryover Data FAQ says unused carryover data normally lasts through the end of the following bill cycle, while the expiration period for a particular bonus offer can vary. Follow the rules attached to your plan and offer rather than assuming unused data builds without limit.

The biggest risk: changing the legacy plan
The reported offer appeared tied to keeping the customer’s existing plan. Verizon says bonus data may be forfeited when an account is canceled or moved to another plan, and the 2021 coverage warned that changing plans could end the offer. Verizon also says some older shared-data plans are closed to new additions and customers may not be able to switch back after moving to a current plan. See Verizon’s New Verizon Plan FAQ.
Before accepting a plan change—or making a change to the account that might affect eligibility—compare the full monthly bill and confirm the consequences with Verizon. A seemingly small plan adjustment can matter more than the $5 or $10 add-on if it removes a legacy plan you cannot restore.
Is the offer a better deal than unlimited data?
Not automatically. A large bonus allowance can be attractive if it genuinely appears on your account, covers the lines and hotspot use you need, and lets you keep an economical legacy plan. But the add-on price is only one part of the cost: include the base plan, line access charges, any overage exposure, and the restrictions attached to both the legacy plan and the bonus.
- It may suit you if your total legacy-plan bill is competitive, multiple lines can share the allowance, and you use enough data to value the added capacity.
- A current unlimited plan may suit you better if your old plan has costly overages or fees, you want simpler billing, or its terms no longer match how you use service. Unlimited plans can still have restrictions, such as premium-data thresholds, hotspot caps, video limits, or network-management terms.
- Compare the alternatives carefully if you need dedicated hotspot service or home internet rather than phone-plan data. Verizon’s current unlimited plans, connected-device plans, and 5G Home Internet have different eligibility, pricing, and usage terms; check the live offer and address availability. Do not assume any of them duplicates the historic bonus.
For a household comparison, check each carrier’s official terms for network access, hotspot allowances, taxes and fees, multi-line pricing, and device financing. Plans from AT&T, T-Mobile, Visible, and US Mobile are alternatives to evaluate, not equivalent versions of Verizon’s 999GB promotion.

What is known about availability in 2026
The specific $5/$10/possibly-free 999GB offer was reported in November 2021. Verizon’s official bonus-data and usage pages explain how its program works, but they do not verify that this particular promotion is currently being issued. In September 2026, treat it as a historical, targeted offer unless it appears in your My Verizon account or Verizon confirms it for your account in writing.
