Verizon’s 2018 Black Friday promotion offered $400 off selected Android phones without requiring a trade-in—but only through Friday, November 23. The offer was reported as 24 monthly bill credits, not necessarily an immediate $400 reduction at checkout. Verizon then cut the discount to $200 for the holiday weekend. This promotion expired in November 2018.
Which phones qualified for Verizon’s $400 discount?
Verizon’s November 20, 2018 announcement listed six phones: the Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, Galaxy Note 9, and LG V40 ThinQ. The LG V40 was included even though it was absent from the original headline. Verizon said a trade-in was not required.
Verizon’s announcement confirms the eligible-phone list and the no-trade-in condition.
When did the $400 and $200 offers run?

Verizon announced the promotion on November 20. Its release described the $200 replacement offer as running Saturday and Sunday; it does not establish that the discount continued through Monday, November 26.

How was the $400 discount delivered?
Droid Life reported that the $400 was spread across 24 monthly bill credits tied to a device-payment plan. That is different from an instant rebate: the advertised total would arrive over time rather than necessarily being subtracted from the phone’s price at purchase. The available reporting does not establish the precise consequences of paying off the phone early, cancelling service, upgrading, or switching carriers, nor does it specify how taxes and fees were calculated. Those terms should not be inferred from the headline discount alone.

What were the eligibility limits?
- Trade-in: Verizon’s release explicitly said one was not required.
- New line: Droid Life reported that a new line was not required. Verizon’s release independently confirms the no-trade-in point, but the new-line detail comes from the contemporaneous report.
- Customer type: Droid Life suggested both new and upgrading customers might qualify, but presented that as an impression, not a confirmed universal rule.
- Combining offers: The available announcement does not establish whether the promotion stacked with account-specific, loyalty, employer, military, trade-in, or accessory offers.
- Payment-plan details: The sources do not resolve all requirements, including eligible storage or color variants, credit approval, line status, or the handling of credits after account changes.
For any comparable carrier promotion, the important personal-finance distinction is between a lower purchase price and credits contingent on a payment arrangement. Compare the total payments and required service costs with the price of an unlocked phone, and check the complete terms before committing.

No. The $400 offer ended on November 23, 2018, and the follow-up $200 offer was limited to that weekend. These are legacy phone models; the historical promotion does not establish their current availability, condition, network compatibility, software support, or resale price.
