Vantage Data Centers’ February 10, 2020 announcement was a planned USD $2 billion European expansion—not proof that the full amount was spent or that every named campus is operating. The plan combined Vantage’s acquisition of Etix Everywhere with new development in Berlin, Milan, Warsaw and Zurich, plus Etix’s Frankfurt-area campus.
What the $2 billion announcement covered
Vantage said the expansion would establish a presence in five European markets. Its funding plan included more than USD $800 million in new equity capital from existing investors and a new commitment from Digital Colony Partners. The financial terms of the Etix transaction were not disclosed.
Etix was described as an EMEA data-center provider with more than 50MW of built capacity across its footprint and a 55MW hyperscale campus under construction in Offenbach, near Frankfurt. Vantage separately identified four greenfield markets: Berlin, Milan, Warsaw and Zurich.
Vantage president and CEO Sureel Choksi called the move the company’s “largest expansion ever into Europe” in the February 10, 2020 announcement. That is a company characterization of the strategy, not an independent measurement of project completion or market demand.

The five campuses named in the 2020 plan
The announced capacities total 255MW by arithmetic. They are figures from the 2020 plan, not a current, independently verified table of operating capacity.
| Market | Planned capacity | Site size in announcement | Status described in 2020 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Berlin | 64MW | 13 acres (5 hectares) | Campus Vantage planned to develop |
| Frankfurt area (Offenbach) | 55MW | 8 acres (3 hectares) | Etix campus; 55MW was under construction |
| Milan | 32MW | 17 acres (7 hectares) | Campus Vantage planned to develop |
| Warsaw | 64MW | 12 acres (5 hectares) | Campus Vantage planned to develop |
| Zurich | 40MW | 7 acres (3 hectares) | Campus Vantage planned to develop |
Why the 255MW figure needs care
Adding the five announced numbers is useful for understanding the scale of the proposal, but it does not establish that 255MW became live capacity. The release supplied a development plan; it did not provide a later, site-by-site operating report for all five locations.

What was delivered at Frankfurt-area campus
On November 2, 2020, Vantage announced that it had opened the first 15MW data center at its Offenbach campus with Energieversorgung Offenbach and DataCenter-Group. Vantage described full development as three multi-story data centers totaling 55MW and 650,000 square feet.
This opening is a documented milestone within the Frankfurt-area portion of the strategy. It does not confirm completion of the Berlin, Milan, Warsaw or Zurich projects. Antoine Boniface, then Vantage Europe president, described the campus as the “first milestone” in the USD $2 billion expansion.

Later European investments are not the same $2 billion plan
2023: European asset partnership
In October 2023, Vantage announced an investment partnership with a consortium led by MEAG and Infranity, including DigitalBridge-affiliated funds. The partnership initially covered six stabilized European data centers valued at approximately €2.5 billion (approximately $2.7 billion), with more than 1.8 million gross square feet and 177MW of IT capacity.
Those figures describe a later financing and asset-portfolio transaction. They should not be added to, or treated as a restatement of, the original USD $2 billion expansion budget.

2023: Entry into London
In January 2023, Vantage announced entry into London through a planned £500 million, 48MW campus. The same announcement described an expansion at Cardiff and said Vantage’s three UK campuses would total 216MW once fully developed. These were company-reported plans and dated schedules, not an independent audit of completed UK capacity.
2025: Second Milan campus
In October 2025, Vantage announced MXP2, its second Milan campus, as a more than €350 million investment. The project was described as two buildings with 32MW of critical IT capacity, with first-phase operations slated for spring 2026. Vantage also forecast approximately €4 billion of Italian investment over eight years, about 4,000 construction workers and roughly 250 permanent jobs. Those are company estimates rather than audited outcomes.

2026: Proposed Bordeaux-area AI and cloud campus
In February 2026, Altarea and Vantage announced a partnership to develop a proposed AI and cloud campus on Altarea-owned land near Bordeaux. Altarea said it had secured a 400MW power connection with the French utility. The announcement characterized the project as Vantage’s first entry into France, but the campus remained a development proposal at that time.

- USD $2 billion: intended investment for the 2020 European expansion, not a verified amount spent.
- More than USD $800 million: planned new equity capital cited in the 2020 announcement.
- 255MW: arithmetic total of the five capacities announced in 2020, not confirmed operating capacity.
- 15MW: first Offenbach facility Vantage said it opened in November 2020.
- 55MW: Offenbach campus total described at full development.
- 177MW and approximately €2.5 billion: capacity and value associated with the separate 2023 stabilized-asset partnership.
What the announcement does—and does not—establish
The 2020 release establishes the size, funding intention and geographic scope of Vantage’s proposed expansion. The 2020 Offenbach opening establishes an early delivery milestone. Later announcements show that Vantage continued adding European projects, financing structures and development proposals.
Available announcements do not establish the current operating status of every campus named in 2020, nor that Vantage spent the entire USD $2 billion. Treating a planned capacity, a financed portfolio and an opened facility as interchangeable would overstate what the public record shows.
The Bottom Line
Vantage’s USD $2 billion figure was a 2020 European expansion commitment covering Etix and planned campuses in five markets. The record confirms an initial 15MW Offenbach opening and subsequent European investments, but it does not prove that the full budget was spent or that all five original campuses are operating.
