Thailand and Cambodia were its first announced markets. The launch opened a route for cross-border procurement; it did not establish that UUUO had captured a large share of Southeast Asian demand.
What UUUO is—and what it is not
Founded in Hiroshima on July 1, 2016, UUUO describes its work as digitizing seafood distribution. Its marketplace connects professional buyers with seafood offered by Japanese fishing ports and markets. The company says its listings draw on more than 100 ports and markets; that figure is not a count of independent suppliers. UUUO’s English company page describes the marketplace at uuuo.co.jp/en, while its company information is at uuuo.co.jp/about.
Despite the shorthand “fresh fish delivery app” used in the original coverage, this is not a consumer service for ordering dinner to a home. Its intended users include seafood importers, restaurants, hotels, retailers and other food businesses. The software helps buyers find products and coordinate orders; export companies, carriers, customs processes and local importers remain part of the physical supply chain.
UUUO previously operated Maehama Cloud, a service for landing and market-price information, and integrated it into UUUO in 2022. The integration is described in the company’s announcement. Later company material presents UUUO and the atohama wholesale ordering app as part of its broader seafood-distribution business.

What the Thailand and Cambodia launch involved
UUUO announced UUUO importer on February 20, 2023, naming Thailand and Cambodia as the first target countries. The company said the service would coordinate distribution and shipping schedules with partner export companies. Its launch announcement is at uuuo.co.jp/news/EFXL6lSu.
- Japanese producers or seafood sellers list available products on UUUO.
- An overseas business buyer finds and orders a listed product through the importer service.
- UUUO coordinates with a partner export company.
- UUUO and the export partner arrange distribution and shipping schedules.
- The shipment moves through the applicable export, import and local-delivery process to the buyer.
That is a procurement and import-coordination model, not a claim that the app itself transports fish or replaces an importer’s responsibilities. The launch announcement does not give a detailed explanation of why Thailand and Cambodia were selected, so claims about market size, tariffs or logistics advantages in those countries are not established.
What buyers can learn from the listings
UUUO says its listings can include species, production or landing area, fishing method, landing date and expected delivery date, as well as product descriptions and images. Its materials also refer to wild or farmed status where applicable, processed products, and catch and market information. The purpose is to make changing availability easier to assess than a series of separate calls or broker conversations.
In an update dated July 18, 2023, UUUO described overseas-oriented functions including English-language support, local-currency and tariff-rate displays, landing-date alerts and species filters tailored to local markets. The same update says the company alerts buyers when delivery is expected to take longer than the usual two-to-three-day window. These are company-described features and timing signals, not independent performance measurements or a universal delivery guarantee. See the update.

Why a buyer might use it—and what remains the buyer’s problem
For an importer or restaurant, a consolidated catalog can make it easier to discover seafood from a broader set of Japanese ports, compare product details and track availability. It may help a business find seasonal or less-common species and reduce the time spent coordinating across multiple suppliers. UUUO’s platform is intended to lower sourcing friction, not to guarantee that every listing will be available when an order is finalized.
Cross-border seafood purchasing still has costs and risks outside the marketplace. Buyers should establish the full landed cost and the division of responsibility before committing to an order.
- Availability: Catch volumes and listings can change with season, weather, fishing conditions and demand. A listed product is not necessarily reserved inventory.
- Export and import eligibility: A product available in Japan may still face destination-country species rules, export requirements, documentation or food-safety restrictions.
- Full price: A displayed local-currency amount or tariff rate does not by itself establish the landed price. Freight, duties, taxes, brokerage, local delivery, minimum quantities and exchange-rate movements may affect the buyer’s total cost.
- Cold chain and timing: Arrival depends on handling, transport, customs clearance and local distribution. A stated typical transit window does not guarantee condition for every species or shipment.
- Receiving and storage: The buyer must be able to receive, inspect, store and use the seafood under applicable local requirements.
Freshness is therefore an outcome of the whole chain—from landing and export handling through transport, clearance, local distribution and storage—not a property guaranteed by an app listing.

The July 2023 overseas update indicates that UUUO adapted parts of the product for buyers outside Japan: English functionality, local-currency and tariff displays, alerts about landing dates, and filters intended to hide species that may not fit local food habits. That filtering recognizes a practical limit of a broad catalog: more choices are useful only when the products suit local demand.

A later UUUO feature lets buyers submit advance purchasing requests specifying species and quantity, with price and repeat-purchase use cases also described by the company. A request helps communicate what a buyer wants; it is not proof that the catch, quantity or price can be fulfilled. Details are in UUUO’s purchasing-request announcement.
What the launch does—and does not—show about traction
TechTimes reported that UUUO set an early target of one metric ton of monthly cross-border orders. That is a target, not evidence of achieved volume, revenue, customer count, repeat purchases or market share. The report appeared on March 2, 2023: TechTimes’ launch coverage.
In July 2023, UUUO said it had received inquiries from Thailand, Cambodia, North America and other Southeast Asian markets, and reported support through a Japan External Trade Organization startup-export business-model demonstration program. Those statements indicate interest and ongoing internationalization, but do not confirm commercial launches in every market mentioned or disclose sales results.
UUUO’s status in 2026
UUUO remains active: company announcements describe a Tokyo office opened in April 2023, an Osaka office opened in October 2025, and Maruichi Sangyo becoming a shareholder in February 2026. The Osaka announcement emphasizes the UUUO marketplace and atohama ordering app; the investment announcement is at uuuo.co.jp/news/CazEjht1. The Osaka update is at uuuo.co.jp/news/Os22cdT2, and the Tokyo office announcement is at uuuo.co.jp/news/ZKsnz8uz.
