UPI processed 24.07 billion transactions in September 2026, down 1.8% from August’s record, even as average daily transactions rose to a new high of 802 million. Moneyview shares, meanwhile, opened above their ₹34 IPO issue price on October 1: ₹55 on NSE and ₹55.61 on BSE. Those are opening prices from listing day, not current quotes or indications of future returns.
UPI’s monthly transaction count fell, but daily activity rose
NPCI data reported by The Economic Times put September 2026 UPI volume at 24.07 billion transactions, compared with 24.51 billion in August. That is a 1.8% month-on-month decline. The September total value was ₹29.37 lakh crore.
A monthly total and a daily average describe different things. September had one fewer day than August, while its average daily transaction count rose to 802 million from 791 million. September was the first month to cross an average of 800 million transactions per day. Average daily transaction value also increased, to ₹97,913 crore from ₹96,205 crore.
| Measure | August 2026 | September 2026 | Change or context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total transactions | 24.51 billion | 24.07 billion | Down 1.8% month on month |
| Average transactions per day | 791 million | 802 million | September crossed 800 million for the first time |
| Total transaction value | Not stated in the cited report | ₹29.37 lakh crore | September value was up 18% year on year |
| Average transaction value per day | ₹96,205 crore | ₹97,913 crore | Higher in September |
Year-on-year growth remained positive: September transaction volume was up 23% and value up 18%, according to the same report of NPCI data. The figures show why the monthly dip should not be read as a contraction in daily use or as a year-on-year decline.

Moneyview’s October 1 opening prices were above the issue price
Moneyview shares opened on October 1, 2026, at ₹55 on NSE and ₹55.61 on BSE, against an IPO issue price of ₹34, according to Moneycontrol’s listing-day report.
| Exchange | October 1 opening price | Issue price | Opening premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| NSE | ₹55 | ₹34 | 61.76% |
| BSE | ₹55.61 | ₹34 | 63.56% |
“About 64%” is a rounded description of the BSE opening premium; it is not the premium on both exchanges. The prices are a snapshot of the opening on the listing date, not a live share price, a closing price, or a forecast. A strong first-day opening alone does not establish how the stock will perform afterward.

IPO subscription figures differ by report
Reports gave different overall subscription totals for the Moneyview IPO. Moneycontrol reported 98.46 times subscription, while The Economic Times newsletter reported 101.87 times. Because the figures conflict, neither should be presented as an uncontested single total.
For company and offer-background context, Moneyview’s draft red herring prospectus describes the issuer and contemplated offer structure. It is a draft filing; the listing-day outcome above comes from subsequent market reporting.

MDR is separate context, not an explanation for September’s dip
In a separate report, The Economic Times said NPCI announced a 0.4% merchant discount rate (MDR) for eligible person-to-merchant UPI payments above ₹2,000, effective October 15, 2026, with no charge for person-to-person payments. The report does not establish that this announcement caused September’s lower monthly transaction count.
NPCI said MDR is distributed within the UPI ecosystem to support infrastructure resilience, innovation, cybersecurity and customer service, as reported by The Economic Times. The policy detail is therefore relevant context, but it should not be treated as evidence of a cause for the month-on-month change.
