Yes, but the headline refers to Twitch’s August 2024 announcement—not confirmed evidence of a new August 2026 increase. Twitch scheduled higher prices for new Tier 1 subscriptions and Tier 1 gift subscriptions purchased in its iOS and Android apps in more than 40 countries, starting October 1, 2024. In the United States, the reported mobile Tier 1 price rose from $5.99 to $7.99. Tier 2 and Tier 3 subscriptions were not part of that mobile increase.
Twitch’s live checkout remains the authority in 2026 because prices vary by country, currency, taxes and purchase method.

What changed in the 2024 Twitch subscription increase?
The change covered mobile-app purchases, not every Twitch subscription. Twitch’s October 2024 rollout applied to new Tier 1 subscriptions and Tier 1 gift subscriptions bought inside the iOS or Android apps in more than 40 countries. The announcement did not change Tier 2 or Tier 3 mobile prices.
| Purchase route or tier | Before the relevant 2024 change | After the change |
|---|---|---|
| US Tier 1 on Twitch’s website | $4.99 | $5.99 from July 2024 |
| US Tier 1 in the mobile app | About $5.99 | $7.99 from October 1, 2024 |
| Tier 2 and Tier 3 in the mobile app | Existing price | Unchanged by the October announcement |
The US figures are historical 2024 prices, not a guaranteed August 2026 price. Reporting commonly rounded $7.99 to “about $8.” The exact amount elsewhere depends on local pricing, currency conversion, tax and the checkout channel. See Twitch’s local subscription-pricing guidance.

Web and mobile were separate changes
The US web Tier 1 price increased from $4.99 to $5.99 in July 2024. The later announcement concerned mobile-app Tier 1 and gift subscriptions. Treating both events as one universal increase makes the headline misleading.
New, recurring and gifted subscriptions
The October announcement specifically described new mobile subscriptions and mobile gift subscriptions. Existing recurring subscriptions generally move to a new price at renewal only after the applicable notice, and timing can differ by country and offer. A subscription purchased for multiple months before a change can follow the terms shown at purchase. Twitch’s Terms of Sale govern the applicable renewal and notice rules.

Who was affected?
The affected group was narrower than “all Twitch users”:
- Viewers purchasing a Tier 1 subscription inside the Twitch iOS or Android app.
- Viewers sending a Tier 1 gift subscription through those apps.
- Users in more than 40 countries included in Twitch’s October rollout.
Web purchasers could see a different price, and Tier 2 and Tier 3 customers were excluded from this particular mobile increase. Twitch’s country price table and the amount shown at checkout take precedence over any US-dollar example.

Why can mobile subscriptions cost more?
Contemporary coverage described Apple and Google app-store economics as a likely reason mobile prices were raised. That is an explanation reported by outside coverage, not a statement that Twitch passed through a specific platform fee dollar-for-dollar.
Twitch’s own pricing announcements also cited changing costs, local-currency conditions and the need to support sustainable streamer revenue. The final mobile price can additionally reflect taxes, currency conversion, regional pricing, payment method and promotions.

Do streamers receive more from the higher price?
Twitch said the net revenue-share percentage for subscriptions and gift subscriptions would remain the same. A higher customer price can therefore increase the dollar amount associated with a subscription, but there is no universal payout figure. A creator’s agreement, taxes, payment processing, currency conversion and region can all affect the amount actually paid.

Twitch says iOS users may save 25% by subscribing through an external browser instead of the iOS app while receiving the same subscription benefits, subject to regional availability and the price displayed for that account.

Is Twitch announcing another increase in 2026?
Nothing in the cited material establishes a new August 2026 increase matching this headline. The specific event was announced on August 21, 2024, with the mobile rollout scheduled for October 1, 2024. If you are deciding what to pay now, check Twitch’s current country-pricing information and the live checkout rather than relying on the historical $5.99 or $7.99 US figures.
The practical takeaway
The 2024 increase was a targeted mobile change: US Tier 1 in-app subscriptions were reported at $7.99 instead of $5.99, while web Tier 1 had already moved to $5.99 and Tier 2 and Tier 3 were left out of the October announcement. Because the purchase method matters, compare Twitch’s browser checkout with the in-app price before subscribing or sending a gift.
