In September 2024, Kamala Harris’s campaign committee reported $221.8 million in receipts, compared with $62.7 million for Donald Trump’s campaign. That is about 3.54 times as much—more than three to one. The figures, reported by CBS News from the campaigns’ Federal Election Commission filings, describe one month and the candidates’ campaign committees, not every group supporting them.
How much did Harris and Trump raise in September 2024?
Harris for President reported $221.8 million in September receipts; Trump’s campaign reported $62.7 million. Dividing the reported amounts gives a ratio of approximately 3.54 to 1. The dollar figures are reported by CBS News; the ratio is arithmetic based on those figures.
This is a historical pre-election snapshot: CBS published the comparison on October 21, 2024, ahead of the November 5 election. It is not a current fundraising update.
Receipts, spending, and cash on hand are different measures
The same report gives three figures for each campaign committee. Receipts are money received during September; disbursements are spending reported for that period; cash on hand is the balance at the end of the month.

All six amounts are figures CBS News reported from FEC filings. Both committees reported spending more than they received during September. Despite Harris’s higher receipts, her committee’s reported month-end balance was not higher by the same comparison: it had $187.5 million, versus Trump’s $119.7 million.
What the comparison includes—and leaves out
The figures cover the named campaign committees, not all money raised or spent by political organizations aligned with either candidate. CBS noted that other pro-Harris and pro-Trump PACs were not included and accounted for a sizable amount of overall spending to support the candidates. The committee-level comparison therefore should not be described as total election spending or the complete financial resources behind either candidate.

The FEC’s candidate overview pages identify the principal campaign committees as Harris for President and Donald J. Trump for President 2024, Inc. Their candidate-related summaries have defined coverage periods, which may differ from a September-only comparison. The FEC also notes that newly filed summary data can take up to 48 hours to appear, so its overview aggregates should not be substituted for the September amounts. FEC summary tables are based on reports filed with the Commission. They are useful for comparing reported committee activity, but the FEC says the tables do not replace the law or change its meaning; authoritative legal interpretation may require campaign-finance law, regulations, advisory opinions, and court decisions. The commission’s presidential candidate data summary tables explain the reporting context.

Because it predates September and combines broader categories, it does not establish the Harris-Trump September comparison; it is broad background on the scale of campaign finance only. Finally, a fundraising advantage alone does not establish which candidate was leading in polls, who would win, or how effectively either campaign used its funds. Those are separate questions from what the committees reported receiving.
