PolitiFact’s November 10, 2025, fact-check calls the allegation baseless and traces it to satire. The claim was later amplified in a post attributed to Donald Trump.
What did Trump’s post claim?
Forbes reported on November 9, 2025, that Trump shared a claim saying DOGE had halted yearly payments to Obama for “royalties linked to Obamacare.” The version Forbes described alleged that Obama had collected $40 million since 2010; that figure was part of the allegation, not a verified royalty total. Forbes’ report describes the post and its claim.
A third-party archive of Trump’s Truth Social posts reproduces the wording: “#BREAKING: DOGE halts yearly payment of $2.5 million to Barack Obama for ‘royalties linked to Obamacare.’” The $2.5 million figure is what the archived claim specified, not evidence that a government payment existed. The archive corroborates the text but is not independently verified metadata from Truth Social itself. The archived post contains the wording.
Is Obama getting royalties from Obamacare?
No. PolitiFact’s November 10, 2025, fact-check describes the alleged payments as baseless and satirical. Its finding addresses the specific claim that Obama received royalties connected to the Affordable Care Act; the figures in the post and related coverage should not be treated as real payments. PolitiFact’s fact-check explains its conclusion.

Where did the Obamacare royalties claim come from?
Forbes reported that the February version Trump shared appeared on Dunning-Kruger Times. PolitiFact connects that site to America’s Last Line of Defense, a satirical Facebook page operated by Christopher Blair, who also publishes Dunning-Kruger Times. An earlier version of the claim was addressed in PolitiFact’s March 2025 fact-check. That earlier fact-check describes the satirical source and its connection to Blair.
The documented account establishes a satirical source and Trump’s later amplification of the claim. It does not establish every repost or intermediary account between them, so a complete viral pathway cannot be stated from these sources.

What the figures do—and do not—show
- $2.5 million a year: the annual amount stated in the archived post’s allegation, not a confirmed payment.
- $40 million since 2010: the cumulative total attributed to the claim in Forbes’ account, not a verified royalty amount.
Neither figure establishes that Obama received money from the government for Obamacare-related royalties.
