Walmart’s receipt-lookup form is primarily for in-store purchases paid with a debit or credit card. It matches the store ZIP code or city and state, purchase date, card type, last four card digits, receipt total and CAPTCHA. Online, pickup, delivery and shipping orders normally belong in Account → Purchase History instead. Cash, gift-card, benefit-card and other non-card transactions may require Walmart support rather than repeated attempts in the form.
Use the diagnosis below first, then work through the eight fixes in order. The official instructions are at Walmart’s Purchase History help page and the receipt-lookup page.
Identify what is actually failing

Receipt Lookup and Purchase History are related but different. Receipt Lookup is a transaction-matching form; it is not a universal search for every Walmart payment.
1. Check Purchase History before using Receipt Lookup
- Sign in to the Walmart website or app.
- Open Account, then Purchase History.
- Check the actual purchase date and open nearby transactions if several purchases look similar.
- Review the order for totals, payment information and available return options.
Eligible in-store purchases made with a payment card saved to your Walmart.com account can be added automatically. Walmart’s help page says it can add eligible saved-card store purchases from the previous 12 months; that is a description of account-history linking, not a guaranteed age limit for the standalone lookup tool. Purchases made through Walmart Pay and receipts scanned with the Walmart app can also remain in Purchase History.

If nothing appears, make sure you are using the account associated with the purchase. A family member’s account, a second email address or a card saved to a different account can explain the omission.
2. Enter the exact store location
The form accepts the store’s ZIP code or city and state. Enter the location where the transaction was processed—not your home ZIP code, billing ZIP code or a different branch. A pickup location also may not be the same as the location that processed the payment.
Check your bank statement, calendar, map history or email records if you are unsure which store you visited. Start the form at walmart.com/receipt-lookup and use the location fields shown there.
3. Verify the purchase date and final total
Walmart advises checking the date and amount against your financial statement. Use the exact final transaction amount, not an estimate, pre-tax subtotal or a rounded figure.

- Check for multiple Walmart purchases on the same day.
- Look for a split transaction, partial refund or adjustment.
- Consider whether a fuel-station or pharmacy charge appears separately.
- Use the date and total for the specific store transaction you are trying to recover.
A bank transaction may post one day after the in-store purchase. If several amounts seem possible, do not guess—use the exact store and settled amount, then contact Walmart if no match appears.

4. Correct the card type and last four digits
The lookup requires the card type and the last four digits of the card used. Confirm that you selected debit or credit correctly and entered the card digits rather than a bank-account number.
- A replacement card may have different last four digits from the card used at checkout.
- A split payment may involve more than one tender, so neither card alone may describe the entire transaction.
- A digital wallet can use a device-specific token rather than the physical card number. Check the transaction details in your banking app or ask the card issuer which last four digits identify the Walmart charge.
These wallet and split-payment situations are troubleshooting possibilities; Walmart’s instructions do not promise that every tokenized or split transaction can be matched through the standard form.
5. Fix JavaScript, CAPTCHA and browser loading problems
The receipt-lookup page states that JavaScript is required. If it does not load, remains at “not completed” or ignores the next button, try:

- Use a current Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox browser.
- Open a private or incognito window.
- Temporarily disable ad blockers, script blockers, VPN browser extensions and aggressive privacy tools.
- Allow Walmart cookies for the session and complete CAPTCHA carefully.
- Switch from an in-app browser to a normal mobile or desktop browser.
- Try another device or network, such as mobile data instead of Wi-Fi.
These are standard remedies for a form that cannot render or submit; the official page confirms the JavaScript requirement but does not establish that every failure has the same cause.
6. Use receipt scanning or Walmart Pay history
If you still have the paper receipt, the Walmart app can store it digitally:

- Open the Walmart app.
- Use the search bar’s barcode icon.
- Scan the barcode on the receipt.
Scanning requires possession of the receipt, so it cannot recover one that is completely lost. It is useful when you want a backup or when the account did not automatically link the store purchase.
Walmart Pay is another account-history route. Walmart describes Walmart Pay as an in-app in-store payment method that generates eReceipts, subject to registration and service limitations. Its purchases can appear in Purchase History, although Walmart does not promise instantaneous or exception-free posting. See the Walmart terms page.
7. Confirm that your payment method is supported
The official instructions ask for debit- or credit-card details and direct customers who used another payment method to contact support. Do not keep submitting the same form if you paid with:
- Cash.
- A Walmart gift card.
- A combination that included cash, a gift card or another non-card tender.
- Certain benefit or assistance cards for which no usable card number and last four digits are available.
First check Purchase History. Then keep any partial receipt, bank statement, gift-card record or approximate transaction information. Use Chat with us or ask the store’s customer-service desk what proof of purchase is acceptable. Walmart’s help instructions do not establish that every cash, gift-card or split-payment receipt can be reproduced online.
8. Contact Walmart when the match still fails
Escalate after confirming the store, date, final amount, card type, last four digits, CAPTCHA and browser operation:

- Select Chat with us.
- Explain that the in-store receipt lookup did not find the transaction.
- Provide the store location, purchase date, exact total, payment method and last four digits.
- Ask what alternative proof of purchase is acceptable if the request concerns a return.
- If needed, visit the store’s customer-service desk with payment evidence and identification.
Never provide a full card number, PIN, CVV, Walmart password or one-time authentication code. Support may validate a transaction or explain available options, but Walmart does not promise that every receipt can be reproduced or that a return will be approved without the original receipt.

Online, pickup, delivery and shipping orders
Open Account → Purchase History, select the order and review its totals and payment information. Walmart says the barcode at the bottom of the order can serve as proof of purchase for pickup, delivery and shipping orders. Do not treat this workflow as the same as recovering a lost in-store receipt.
Older or unlinked store purchases
A saved-card purchase may not appear if it was made on another account, with a card that was not saved, or outside the period Walmart describes for automatic account linking. If you still have the paper receipt, scan it in the app; otherwise use Receipt Lookup or support.
Split payments and digital wallets
Walmart does not document every split-payment or tokenized-wallet scenario in its lookup instructions. Supply the transaction details to support rather than repeatedly substituting card numbers.
Returns without a downloadable receipt
Ask Walmart what proof of purchase it can accept for the specific item, seller, purchase channel and payment method. A no-receipt return is not guaranteed. For eligible online orders, Walmart’s online return instructions explain how to start a return and, where available, obtain a barcode for an in-store return.

What to tell Walmart Chat
You can use this concise explanation:
“I’m trying to recover an in-store receipt. The purchase was at [store/city] on [date] for [$total]. I used a [debit/credit] card ending in [last four], but Receipt Lookup did not find it. What proof of purchase or recovery options are available?”
Use Walmart’s official domain and Help Center only. Third-party receipt-recovery services should not receive your card or account credentials.

Can Walmart look up a receipt without the card?
The standard form is designed around debit- or credit-card information. If you do not have usable card details, check Purchase History and contact Walmart through Chat with us or the store’s customer-service desk.
Can I look up a Walmart receipt paid with cash?
Cash and other non-card payments may not be recoverable through the standard online form. Keep any other transaction evidence and ask Walmart what alternatives are available.

Why is my Walmart purchase missing from Purchase History?
It may be linked to another Walmart account, made with a card not saved to the account, made outside Walmart’s described saved-card history period, or not linked automatically. Walmart Pay history and receipt scanning are additional routes.
Can I find a receipt for an online order?
Use Account → Purchase History, open the order and review its details. Pickup, delivery and shipping orders use that order record rather than the in-store Receipt Lookup form.

Start with Purchase History, then match the exact store, date, final total, card type and last four digits. Fix JavaScript or CAPTCHA issues only when the page itself is failing. If the payment was non-card, the transaction used a split or digital-wallet tender, or accurate details still produce no match, move to Walmart Chat or the store’s customer-service desk.
