Two tractors tied for the highest reported price at Jon Kinzenbaw’s November 4, 2025, collector auction: a 1971 John Deere 4020 fitted with oversized flotation tires and a 1969 Massey Ferguson 1130, each at $50,250. Successful Farming’s November 6 report listed the ten highest-priced tractor lots, with reported buyer states or destinations—not verified present-day locations.
Top 10 Kinzenbaw auction tractors by reported sale price
The ranking below follows Successful Farming’s November 6, 2025, feature. Bid counts, prices, configurations, hours, and destination descriptions are reported as published; a buyer state or “headed to” description does not confirm where a tractor is now.
| Rank | Tractor and reported details | Bids | Reported price | Reported buyer state or destination |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 (tie) | 1971 John Deere 4020 with flotation/oversized combine tires. Ryan Roossinck described the base tractor as an HFWD Wheatland with side console, synchro transmission, no three-point hitch, remotes, PTO, and wide-swing drawbar. He said its sheet metal and paint were in good shape and described it as mechanically solid. | 163 | $50,250 (Successful Farming, 2025) | Buyer reported in Ohio |
| 1 (tie) | 1969 Massey Ferguson 1130 with narrow front and restoration noted; meter showed 4,220 hours. | 156 | $50,250 (Successful Farming, 2025) | Buyer reported in Wisconsin |
| 3 | 1970 John Deere 4020 with wide front, powershift transmission, unused front and rear tires, and 6,196 hours showing. | 172 | $36,000 | Buyer reported in Texas |
| 4 | 1973 John Deere 4430 described as being in excellent condition, with quad-range transmission, two hydraulic outlets, unused tires, and 5,092 hours. | 109 | $34,750 | Reported headed to Illinois |
| 5 | 1972 John Deere 4020 with wide front, powershift, two hydraulic outlets, unused front and rear tires, and 2,160 hours showing. | 122 | $33,500 | Reported headed to Pennsylvania |
| 6 | 1975 IH Farmall 1566, described in the feature as the highest-priced IH Farmall in the sale. | 120 | $32,751 | Buyer reported in New York |
| 7 | 1973 John Deere 4430, characterized by Roossinck as clean; he said it appeared well bought at this price. | 103 | $32,750 | Reported staying in Iowa |
| 8 | 1978 John Deere 4640; Roossinck called the model a workhorse and said this example had a little over 3,300 hours. | 92 | $30,750 | Reported headed to Wisconsin |
| 9 | 1966 IH Farmall 1206. Roossinck called 1206s a cornerstone tractor for a red collector; that is his opinion, not an objective ranking. | 147 | $30,000 | Buyer reported in Iowa |
| 10 | 1974 John Deere 4630 described as a clean SoundGard; Roossinck commented on its serviceability. | 93 | $28,000 | Reported headed to Nebraska |
Prices and bids in the table are figures reported by Successful Farming in 2025. Farms.com independently reported the two $50,250 leaders and the $36,000 1970 John Deere 4020, including the reported Ohio, Wisconsin, and Texas buyer states.
What stands out in the reported results
A tie at the top
The flotation-tire 1971 John Deere 4020 and the 1969 Massey Ferguson 1130 shared the highest reported price, $50,250. The 1970 John Deere 4020 drew the most bids among these ten lots, with 172, but its reported sale price was $36,000. The figures describe individual auction lots; they do not establish why bidders set a particular price or provide a broader vintage-tractor market benchmark.

Configuration and condition varied
The leading 4020 was not simply a standard example: Roossinck described its original Wheatland configuration, while the feature also highlighted its flotation tires. Other listed tractors had different transmissions, fronts, hours, tire details, and condition descriptions. Those details help distinguish the lots, but the report does not establish that any one feature caused a particular sale price.
Kinzenbaw’s reaction to the sale
In a post-sale interview with Successful Farming, Kinzenbaw said, “We broke quite a few records on what things were bringing.” He also said, “Overall, everything brought way more than we thought it would bring. It was just tractors all over the place that brought double what they should have brought.” These are his assessments of the auction, not an independent appraisal methodology or a statistical measure of the wider market.

Where the tractors are reported to be going
Successful Farming’s 2025 coverage gives a buyer state for some lots and directional wording for others, such as “headed to” or “staying in.” Treat these as destinations reported at the time of sale. The reporting does not establish current ownership or precise present-day locations for all ten tractors.
A December 2025 DTN follow-up offers a small additional glimpse into purchases, not a complete buyer survey. Reader Nathan Grove said he bought the 1972 John Deere 4020 powershift listed at $33,500. Bob Hennen said he bought four tractors and planned to use them for some farming and enjoyment, including parades, rides, and pulls. Their accounts do not establish destinations or uses for the other lots.

How large was the auction?
Published counts describe different scopes and should not be treated as interchangeable. Successful Farming described the sale as including more than 100 machines and reported that Kinzenbaw’s collection contained more than 600 tractors. Sullivan Auctioneers’ 2025 listing advertised 150+ tractors. Farms.com reported 280 auction items. The sources do not define those counts identically, so they do not support a single consolidated lot total.
