ThreatMate announced a $3.2 million seed round on February 6, 2025, led by Top Down Ventures’ Founders Fund I, with Blu Ventures and Runtime Ventures participating. The cybersecurity startup sells software for managed service providers (MSPs); Sherweb later announced that ThreatMate joined its marketplace on July 22, 2026.
Who invested in ThreatMate’s seed round?
ThreatMate announced the financing on February 6, 2025. SecurityWeek reported it the following day, and lead investor Top Down Ventures also published the investment. Top Down said the round was oversubscribed.
- Amount: $3.2 million.
- Lead investor: Top Down Ventures’ Founders Fund I.
- Other participants: Blu Ventures and Runtime Ventures.
SecurityWeek’s report and Top Down Ventures’ investment announcement provide the funding details. Top Down founding partner Chris Day told SecurityWeek that ThreatMate was addressing the challenge of helping MSPs manage customers’ expanding attack surfaces; that is an investor’s view, not an independent assessment of the product.
What does ThreatMate do?
SecurityWeek described ThreatMate as a Delaware-based startup founded in 2021, offering an AI-powered attack surface management platform for MSPs, particularly those serving small and medium-sized businesses. MSPs manage technology and security services for multiple client organizations, so tools intended for this market aim to help them identify and address risks across those environments.

ThreatMate’s current platform overview describes a risk-validation product that combines attack surface discovery, vulnerability scanning, automated penetration testing and configuration audits. The company says it validates which exposures are exploitable and brings findings together in a remediation plan. These are vendor-described capabilities and outcomes, not independently verified performance results.
What changed after the funding announcement?
On July 22, 2026, Sherweb announced that ThreatMate had been added to its marketplace. Sherweb’s announcement describes capabilities similar to those on ThreatMate’s product page: discovery, vulnerability scanning, automated penetration testing and configuration audits.

A marketplace listing establishes that the product was made available through that channel; it does not establish sales, customer adoption or product effectiveness. The marketplace news is also separate from the February 2025 financing announcement.

The confirmed headline is a $3.2 million seed round and the identities of its investors. The available announcements do not establish a market-size figure, independent efficacy results or customer outcomes. Product claims about finding exploitable exposures should therefore be treated as company or marketplace descriptions unless supported by separate validation.

An MSP community post asking “Anyone using Threatmate?” indicates interest in practical experience, but a single post is not a representative survey or a verified product review. The post cannot establish how widely the platform is used or how well it performs.
