The headline deal was real, but it was not a current August 2026 offer. On November 1, 2025, a 15-inch MacBook Air with an M3 chip, 24GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD was reported at $1,125. That was unusually good value for buyers who prioritized memory and storage over having the newest processor. After Apple launched the 15-inch M5 Air, however, a similarly priced M5 is generally the better purchase for a new buyer.
The original listing represented remaining M3 inventory, so availability was likely limited. Check the exact seller, condition and configuration before treating any similarly worded listing as the same deal.
What the $1,125 deal included
- 15-inch MacBook Air
- Apple M3 chip
- 24GB unified memory
- 512GB SSD
- Reported promotional price: $1,125
- Reported date: November 1, 2025
The deal was covered as clearance inventory after the M4 generation had launched. Its appeal was configuration value: 24GB of memory and 512GB of storage for less than a newer Air with comparable capacity. It was not evidence that M3 was faster than M4.

Why the configuration was compelling
24GB helps demanding multitaskers
Unified memory is shared by macOS, applications and graphics. Extra capacity is useful when you keep many browser tabs and office apps open, edit photos or video, run development tools or virtual machines, or use local AI software. Memory is chosen at purchase and cannot be upgraded later, making 24GB more consequential than a small chip-generation difference for some users.

512GB avoids the tightest base-storage compromise
A 512GB SSD leaves more room for applications, project files and a photo or video library than an entry-level drive. Matching that storage and memory on a newer generation was substantially more expensive at Apple when the deal was published; the cited comparison described an approximately $400 gap at Apple, narrowed to about $275 when discounted M4 pricing was considered.
The 15-inch screen adds workspace without Pro pricing
The larger Air suits side-by-side documents, spreadsheets, research and communications. It remains fanless and quiet, but it is less convenient to carry than the 13-inch model and is not a substitute for a MacBook Pro in sustained workstation workloads.
What changed with M4 and M5
| Generation | What is established | Buying implication |
|---|---|---|
| 15-inch M3 (2024) | The deal configuration had 24GB memory and 512GB storage; 1080p webcam; more limited external-display behavior than newer models. | Attractive only when the discount is large and those limitations do not matter. |
| 15-inch M4 (2025) | Newer processor generation, 12MP Center Stage camera and broader support for two external displays while the laptop remains open. Exact base memory/storage varies by configuration. | A sensible clearance middle ground if materially cheaper than M5. |
| 15-inch M5 (2026) | 10-core CPU, up-to-10-core GPU, neural accelerators in each GPU core, 512GB standard storage, up to 4TB configurable storage, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and support for up to two external displays. | Usually the better choice when priced close to an older, high-memory model. |
Apple’s M5 performance and AI improvements are “up to” claims based on Apple-selected systems and workloads, not a guarantee of the same gain in every application. Details are in Apple’s March 2026 announcement.
What you give up with the M3 deal
- Camera: the M3 Air uses a 1080p webcam; M4 and M5 models use a 12MP Center Stage camera, a meaningful difference for frequent video calls.
- External displays: newer generations provide broader support for two external displays with the notebook open.
- Platform age: M4 and M5 should have a longer remaining product cycle and may retain more resale value, although no exact support lifespan is guaranteed.
- Wireless standards: M5 adds Wi‑Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 through Apple’s N1 wireless chip.
- Availability risk: a discontinued-generation listing may be refurbished, renewed, open-box or missing the warranty and return terms of a new retail product.
All 15-inch M3, M4 and M5 Air models are listed as compatible with macOS Tahoe 26. Apple identifies them as Mac15,13, Mac16,13 and Mac17,4 respectively; compatibility today does not make their future support identical. See Apple’s model-identification page.

How the M5 changes today’s price comparison
Apple announced the 15-inch M5 Air at $1,299 in the U.S. ($1,199 education), with preorders beginning March 4, 2026 and availability from March 11. The announcement lists 512GB as standard storage. Apple’s store-page crawl has also surfaced a $1,499 starting selector, which may reflect a different configuration or a later price change; confirm the exact memory and storage before comparing prices.
As of an August 16, 2026 deal report, TechRadar listed a 15-inch M5 Air with 16GB memory at $1,099 on Amazon against a stated $1,299 list price. That price must be rechecked for live stock, seller, condition, membership requirements, tax and return terms. If available new from a reputable seller, it is a stronger current-value proposition than the historical $1,125 M3 configuration for most buyers.

13-inch M5
The 13-inch model is preferable when frequent travel matters more than screen area, or when choosing it lets you afford more memory or storage. It is also sensible if the laptop normally connects to an external monitor.
MacBook Pro
Move to a Pro when sustained video rendering, large software builds, demanding 3D work, multiple external displays, active cooling, a brighter or higher-refresh display, or additional ports are routine. A high-memory Air remains an Air, not a workstation replacement.

Intel MacBook Air
An Apple-silicon Air can be a substantial practical upgrade in responsiveness, battery condition and software compatibility. The 15-inch screen may also solve a workspace problem, but compare your current battery health and memory needs first.
M1 or M2 Air
For ordinary web, office and streaming use, an upgrade may feel incremental. Stronger reasons include degraded battery health, insufficient memory, inadequate storage, a need for the 15-inch display, a better webcam or support for two external displays.

Existing M3 Air owner
Moving to M5 makes most sense for a specific capability—camera, wireless, external displays, graphics or heavier AI workloads—not simply because the processor name is newer.
Checklist before buying any “15-inch MacBook Air” deal
- Confirm the chip is M3, M4 or M5.
- Confirm 24GB versus 16GB memory and 512GB versus 256GB storage.
- Check whether the item is new, refurbished, renewed or open-box.
- Verify the seller, manufacturer warranty and return window.
- Check keyboard layout and power-adapter region.
- Look for Activation Lock or enterprise management on second-hand hardware.
- Determine whether membership, coupon, trade-in or financing is required.
- Compare the final delivered price with a current 15-inch M5.
For an official refurbished route, see Apple refurbished MacBook Air. Trade-in values vary by model and condition; Apple’s program is described at Apple Trade In.
Verdict
The $1,125 15-inch M3 Air was an excellent November 2025 clearance deal because 24GB of memory and 512GB of storage delivered unusually strong value. It should not be presented as a live deal without a current listing. In 2026, buy it only when the discount is large enough to compensate for the older webcam, display limitations and platform age. If a new 15-inch M5 is close in price—especially around the reported $1,099 sale—the M5 is the safer choice for most buyers.
