The clearest mother-of-the-bride dress trends for 2024 are statement florals, vibrant green, blue and yellow, soft pastels, textured lace and embellishment, and modern evening silhouettes. Use them as inspiration, not rules: coordinate with the wedding’s palette and formality without matching the bridesmaids, and choose a dress you can comfortably sit, move and celebrate in.
1. Statement florals and bold prints
Large-scale florals bring color and personality to a mother-of-the-bride look, particularly for spring, garden and daytime weddings. In a March 18, 2024 article, Joel & Son Fabrics writer Nicole Bull identified statement florals among the season’s directions, including floral-embroidered tulle. Bridal stylist Erika Plackowski, quoted in Wedport’s 2024 roundup, also anticipated bold, large floral prints for mothers.
Consider the setting when choosing print scale. A dramatic pattern can read beautifully in a garden or spacious venue; for a smaller room or more understated ceremony, a subtler floral may feel more balanced. Make sure the print photographs well alongside the wedding party’s colors rather than disappearing into or competing with them.
2. Vibrant green, blue and yellow
Rich color is a way to make a formal statement without relying on beige or another neutral. Joel & Son’s 2024 examples included emerald silk duchess satin, deep yellow-and-gold floral jacquard, royal-blue cloqué and royal-blue metallic guipure lace. In structured or lustrous fabrics, saturated shades can feel occasion-appropriate rather than casual.

Let the wedding palette guide the choice, but do not assume you need to wear one of its exact shades. A related tone can complement the overall look while keeping your outfit distinct from the bridesmaids’ dresses.
3. Soft pastels
Peach, pink, lavender and soft green are gentle options for spring, garden and daytime celebrations. Joel & Son highlighted those pastel families in 2024, showing dusty-pink metallic cloqué and soft-mint guipure lace. The fabric and finish matter: a pastel with texture or a polished drape can look formal, while a very pale shade may appear bridal in some settings.

Check the exact color with the bride, especially if it is close to white, ivory or the bridesmaids’ shade. The goal is to harmonize with the wedding rather than blend into the bridal look or appear to duplicate the attendants.
4. Lace, metallics, sequins and embroidery
Surface detail gives a dress visual interest without requiring a bright color or bold print. Joel & Son’s 2024 examples ranged from black-and-silver metallic guipure lace and black floral sequinned lace to dusty-pink embroidered petal lace with a soft-gold metallic background.

Sequins can suit a city wedding or an evening reception, but they are not a universal choice. Wedport quotes Beverly Osemwenkhae recommending sequins for making a statement at a city wedding and suggesting a neutral color such as champagne. Treat that as one stylist’s guidance: the dress code, venue, bride’s preferences and your comfort should determine how much shine feels right.
5. Modern silhouettes and evening details
Contemporary shapes can refresh familiar occasionwear. David’s Bridal’s guide, published July 23, 2026, describes current options including off-the-shoulder necklines, corset details, draped fabrics, beading, metallics and bold prints. Its examples include one-shoulder or asymmetric necklines, structured bodices, modern A-lines and dramatic sheaths, along with details such as cascades, illusion toppers, beaded capes, wraps, glitter mesh and flutter sleeves.

Choose a silhouette for both appearance and practicality. An off-the-shoulder or one-shoulder neckline may call for extra attention to support and movement; a structured bodice or elaborate overlay may require more involved alterations. Try sitting, standing, hugging and dancing in the dress before committing, not just posing in front of a mirror.

- Setting and dress code: Consider whether the wedding is daytime or evening, outdoors or indoors, and how formal the invitation suggests it will be.
- Color relationship: Ask about the wedding palette and bridesmaids’ colors. Choose a complementary shade rather than an exact copy, and avoid a bridal-white look.
- Coverage and silhouette: Decide what neckline, sleeve, length and support feel comfortable for the ceremony and reception.
- Surface detail: Choose between print, lace, embroidery, metallic finish, sequins or beadwork based on the setting and your preferred level of statement.
- Mobility and weather: Make sure you can walk, sit, dance and manage the expected conditions in the dress and shoes.
- Alterations: Account for the time and cost of fitting changes, particularly with structured bodices, intricate embellishment or layered details.
When to shop and what to budget
David’s Bridal recommends starting the search about four to six months before the wedding, once the bride’s dress, color palette and formality are settled. The retailer says alterations typically take six to eight weeks, so leave time for fittings rather than planning around the purchase date alone.
As a retailer benchmark—not a market-wide average—David’s Bridal puts many of its core mother-of-the-bride silhouettes at approximately $150–$400. It notes that some designer options cost more and alterations are charged separately. Treat the figure as a guide to that retailer’s offerings, not a guarantee of current availability or a general price for the category.
