Re:

The Steam Deck Really Hit C$373.15 in Canada—but That July 2024 Deal Is Over

The Canadian Steam Deck deal was real: the 64GB LCD model reached C$373.15 in June 2024, while the 512GB LCD model fell to about C$475. Both prices were part of an expired promotion that ended July 11, 2024.

Yes, the Canadian Steam Deck deal was real—but it was a June–July 2024 promotion, not a current C$375 offer. MobileSyrup reported on June 24, 2024, that Valve’s 64GB LCD Steam Deck fell to C$373.15 (often rounded to C$375) until July 11, 2024. The 512GB LCD model was also discounted to approximately C$475. That deadline has passed, so readers in August 2026 should treat the price as historical.

What the C$375 Steam Deck deal included

The promotion covered the outgoing LCD versions, not the OLED models. MobileSyrup’s report said Valve was discounting the 64GB and 512GB LCD configurations by 15% while changing the lineup. Read the original report at MobileSyrup.

Model Display Reported regular price Reported sale price Approximate reduction Deadline
Steam Deck 64GB LCD C$439 C$373.15 (about C$375) C$65.85, or 15% July 11, 2024
Steam Deck 512GB LCD C$559 About C$475 About C$84 July 11, 2024

The 64GB figure is the exact 15% calculation: C$439 × 85% = C$373.15. The reported C$475 for the 512GB model should be read as an approximate or rounded price; an exact 15% reduction from C$559 would be C$475.15.

Why Valve discounted the LCD models

MobileSyrup reported that Valve was phasing out the 64GB and 512GB LCD versions, which prompted the 15% reduction. That wording should not be expanded into a claim about a precise worldwide discontinuation date: the available report does not establish one for every market or retailer.

The same June 2024 report described an expected lineup change in early July:

  • 256GB LCD as the entry-level configuration at a reported C$499.
  • 512GB OLED at a reported C$689.
  • 1TB OLED at a reported C$819.

Those were prices and plans reported in 2024, not verified Canadian prices for August 2026.

What buyers were getting for C$373.15

A low-cost entry to Steam Deck

The 64GB LCD model offered the lowest reported price for entering the Steam Deck ecosystem. It used the same SteamOS software environment as the other configurations, while game compatibility still varied by title.

Very limited internal storage

Advertised capacity is not the same as free space after SteamOS, system data and shader or cache files. Modern PC games can consume much of a 64GB drive, so many owners would need storage management or expansion soon after purchase.

Expansion was possible, but not free or effortless

  • A compatible microSD card is the simplest way to add game storage, but card quality and sustained performance vary.
  • Replacing the internal SSD can provide substantially more capacity, but it requires opening the device and introduces installation and potential warranty concerns.

Was the 64GB LCD model a good buy?

It made sense when the priority was the lowest price

  • You wanted the cheapest possible Steam Deck entry point.
  • You already had a suitable microSD card or mainly played smaller and older games.
  • You were comfortable managing storage or considering an SSD upgrade.

The higher-capacity models were easier to live with

  • A 256GB LCD model avoided an immediate storage upgrade when the price gap was modest.
  • OLED models were the premium choice for buyers who valued the newer display experience and typically stronger battery characteristics of that design, despite the higher upfront cost.
  • A 64GB unit’s outgoing status could make future new-stock availability less predictable.

In other words, C$373.15 was the cheapest historical route into Steam Deck, but not automatically the best overall value. Storage needs, display preference and willingness to upgrade mattered more than the headline discount alone.

How to interpret a Steam Deck listing today

A search result quoting “Steam Deck on sale for $375” may simply be displaying the 2024 article. The July 11, 2024 expiration date means that page is an archive of a past promotion, not proof of current stock or pricing.

Rank #3
  1. Confirm the currency. The historical figures were Canadian dollars: C$373.15, not US$375.
  2. Identify the exact model. Check storage (64GB, 256GB or 512GB) and display type (LCD or OLED).
  3. Check the seller and condition. Distinguish Valve or an authorized retailer from a marketplace seller, and new from refurbished, open-box or used stock.
  4. Calculate the checkout total. Verify sales tax, shipping, import charges and any coupon, membership or bundle requirement.
  5. Review protection. Confirm warranty coverage, return period and whether the unit is intended for the Canadian market.
  6. Inspect used hardware. Check battery health, analog-stick drift, buttons and triggers, screen blemishes, USB-C port, fan noise, thermals, charger, case and any SSD replacement.

For a live listing, check Valve’s official destinations: Steam Deck product information and the Steam store hardware page. Those pages are places to verify current availability; they do not show that the 2024 C$373.15 promotion remains active.

Storage and accessory decisions

microSD card

This is the least invasive expansion option for a 64GB Deck. Buy from a reputable seller, check compatibility and warranty, and avoid treating an unusually cheap card as automatically suitable for large game installations.

Internal SSD

An SSD upgrade can solve the capacity problem more cleanly, but opening the Deck carries installation risk. Check the device’s service and warranty implications before proceeding.

Valve Steam Deck 1TB Upgraded Handheld Gaming Console with Carring case, 1280 x 800 OLED Display Silicone Soft Cover Protector & Joystic Cap & Tempered Glass Film Bundle
  • Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
  • Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
  • Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
  • Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
  • The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.

Case, screen protector and dock

A protective case or screen protector can help with travel, while a USB-C hub or dock is useful for a monitor, television, Ethernet, keyboard or mouse. None is required for handheld-only use, and bulky cases can conflict with docks or chargers.

Bottom line for Canadian shoppers

The “Steam Deck for $375” headline referred to a genuine but expired promotion: the 64GB LCD model was reported at C$373.15 from June 24 through July 11, 2024, with the 512GB LCD model at about C$475. In August 2026, do not assume those prices, the LCD lineup or Valve’s stock status are still current. Treat any similar listing as a new purchase decision and verify its model, seller, condition, currency and complete checkout cost.
