Cristiano Ronaldo tops Forbes’ 2025–26 highest-paid footballers ranking with estimated total earnings of $280 million. The available Forbes ranking names ten players, not twenty, so positions 11–20 cannot be verified here. The figures combine estimated on-field and off-field earnings; they are not a definitive list of club wages.
Forbes’ verified highest-paid footballers for 2025–26
Forbes’ 2025 ranking estimates total earnings for the 2025–26 season in US dollars. Its published ranking covers ten players. The table preserves that scope rather than guessing who might rank 11th through 20th.
| Rank | Player | Club | Estimated total earnings | On-field estimate | Off-field estimate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cristiano Ronaldo | Al Nassr | $280 million | $230 million | $50 million |
| 2 | Lionel Messi | Inter Miami | $130 million | $60 million | $70 million |
| 3 | Karim Benzema | Al Ittihad | $104 million | $100 million | $4 million |
| 4 | Kylian Mbappé | Real Madrid | $95 million | $70 million | $25 million |
| 5 | Erling Haaland | Manchester City | $80 million | $60 million | $20 million |
| 6 | Vinicius Jr. | Real Madrid | $60 million | $40 million | $20 million |
| 7 | Mohamed Salah | Liverpool | $55 million | $35 million | $20 million |
| 8 | Sadio Mané | Al Nassr | $54 million | $50 million | $4 million |
| 9 | Jude Bellingham | Real Madrid | $44 million | $29 million | $15 million |
| 10 | Lamine Yamal | Barcelona | $43 million | $33 million | $10 million |
Forbes estimates that these ten players earned a combined $945 million, with $43 million as the list’s entry cutoff. That combined figure is nearly 4% below the prior season’s top-ten total, with Neymar’s departure from the top ten contributing to the decline. Neymar’s estimated total for the season was $38 million after his return to Santos, below this ranking’s cutoff.
How to read the earnings figures
Total earnings are not the same as salary
Forbes’ on-field estimates include base salaries, bonuses and, in some cases, club-based image-rights agreements. The off-field estimates cover annual cash from endorsements, licensing, appearances, memorabilia and returns from businesses in which a player has a significant interest. Forbes also says some club or league sponsors are believed to subsidize player contracts; those amounts are included in on-field estimates.

The figures are estimates, drawing on public databases such as Capology and conversations with industry insiders, most of whom Forbes did not name. They are converted to US dollars using the exchange rate at the time of the ranking. Investment income such as interest and dividends is excluded, as are transfer fees; taxes and agent fees are not deducted. As a result, the amounts do not represent audited personal income or a clean comparison of publicly disclosed wages. Forbes’ ranking and methodology explain the estimates and their components.
Messi’s on-field estimate uses a different period
Messi’s $60 million on-field estimate reflects compensation for 2025 because Major League Soccer follows a calendar-year schedule. It should not be treated as exactly the same measurement period as a conventional full-season estimate for every other player.

What stands out in the top ten
Ronaldo earns more than twice Messi’s estimate
Ronaldo’s $280 million estimated total is $150 million above Messi’s $130 million. The difference is not simply a salary gap: Messi’s estimated off-field earnings of $70 million exceed his $60 million on-field figure, while Ronaldo’s estimated split is $230 million on-field and $50 million off-field.
Several players rely heavily on on-field earnings
Benzema’s $100 million on-field estimate accounts for most of his $104 million total, while Mané’s split is $50 million on-field and $4 million off-field. By contrast, Messi is the only player in this top ten whose reported off-field estimate exceeds his on-field estimate.

Three of the ten play for Saudi Pro League clubs
Ronaldo and Mané are listed with Al Nassr, and Benzema with Al Ittihad. The rest of the ranking includes players from Inter Miami, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool and Barcelona.

The requested title calls for twenty players, but Forbes’ supported 2025–26 ranking identifies only ten. No comparable, credible source in the available evidence establishes ranks 11–20 for the same season and on the same earnings basis. Those places are therefore unresolved; filling them with guesses or mixing figures from other years would create a misleading ranking.
