The best credit card for a Las Vegas trip depends on where you stay and whether you want rewards tied to one casino group. If you regularly visit MGM Resorts or Caesars properties, compare that group’s card with a flexible travel card. If you visit occasionally, prioritize benefits you can actually use and compare the full checkout cost—including resort fees—rather than choosing by headline rewards alone.
How to choose a credit card for a Vegas trip
Start with your likely hotel and where you expect to spend. A resort-branded card may suit someone who returns to the same group and can use its rewards there. A flexible travel card may be a better fit if you want more choice in how to redeem rewards. Neither category is automatically best for every traveler.
- Resort fit: Which casino group’s properties do you actually use?
- Earning: Which purchases earn rewards, and at what rate?
- Redemption: Can you use rewards for the room, dining, entertainment, or other expenses you expect?
- Annual fee and credits: Compare the fee with benefits you can realistically use, not the maximum advertised value.
- Booking rules: Check whether a credit requires booking through a particular channel, a prepaid stay, enrollment, or a qualifying reservation.
- Trip cost: Check resort fees and other charges at checkout, including on award stays.
- Current terms: Verify application eligibility, offer terms, and any foreign transaction fee before applying.
Resort cards and benefits to compare
Casino-branded credit cards are most relevant when you already participate in the associated loyalty program. Credit-card rewards and resort loyalty points are separate programs, even when they are connected: a loyalty earning rate is not a credit-card earning rate.
| Option | Earning or benefit described | Where rewards or benefits apply | Fee or key qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| MGM Rewards credit card | MGM’s card page describes points that may be redeemed as Slot Dollars or MGM Rewards Points. | MGM says points can be used for rooms, dining, and entertainment. The page also describes a $200 Iconic Resort Credit, subject to conditions including a qualifying stay and redemption at an MGM Rewards desk. | Card versions and fees vary; check current issuer disclosures and MGM Rewards rules for earning, redemption, expiration, and forfeiture. | Caesars Rewards Visa Signature | Caesars Rewards lists 2 Reward Credits per $1 on eligible dining, travel, and entertainment purchases. | Rewards are part of the Caesars Rewards program; review the program and card terms for redemption details. | The earning rate is from a support page updated August 19, 2026. | Caesars Prestige Visa | Caesars Entertainment’s July 16, 2025 announcement highlighted an annual complimentary resort night, dining credits, and gaming offers. | Benefits are associated with Caesars properties; verify qualifying properties and restrictions in current terms. | The announcement listed a $149 annual fee and waived foreign transaction fees. Resort loyalty programs can also earn points without those points being credit-card rewards. For example, Venetian Rewards says members earn 2 points per $1 spent at the resort on hotel, dining, entertainment, retail, and spa purchases. Wynn Rewards describes slot-point conversion to free credit and Comp Dollars for specified resort purchases. Treat both as loyalty-program benefits, not general-purpose card rewards. When a flexible travel card may make more sense
If you do not want to tie rewards to one casino group, compare flexible travel cards based on how you earn and redeem, their annual fees, and any booking-channel restrictions. The available information does not establish a single best general-purpose travel card for Las Vegas, so choose based on your own spending and booking plans rather than assuming every travel credit will apply to a Vegas hotel.
Check the booking channel and credit conditions
American Express Travel’s Las Vegas guide, published March 6, 2026, describes up to $300 in statement credits semi-annually, up to $600 per calendar year, for Platinum Card Members on eligible prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection bookings made through Amex Travel. This is a dated benefit description, not a blanket hotel credit: check current eligible bookings and terms before counting it toward your trip. Read American Express Travel’s Las Vegas guide.

Include resort fees in the total price
A complimentary night, award booking, or statement credit does not necessarily eliminate resort fees or other out-of-pocket charges. Chase’s hotel-card overview warns that certain hotels charge resort fees. Before booking, compare the total due for each option, including fees, taxes, and charges not covered by a credit or award. Chase’s hotel-card overview discusses hotel points, redemptions, and resort fees.

- You repeatedly stay with one group: Compare that group’s card with a flexible travel card, focusing on rewards and credits you will use at its properties.
- You are a one-time or occasional visitor: Avoid paying an annual fee for benefits that do not fit your actual booking or spending plans.
- You have a specific prepaid hotel booking in mind: Check whether a travel-card credit requires a particular booking channel and eligible property collection.
- You plan to use points for a room: Compare the remaining bill, especially resort fees, before treating the award as a free stay.
Issuer terms, fees, offers, and eligibility can change. Check the current application and benefit terms before applying, and compare cards using your own expected spending rather than an assumed reward value.
