If your Tesla delivery estimate has slipped, check the Tesla app for the latest timing and any unfinished tasks. Tesla says the app is the source of truth after you order, but an estimate is not a guaranteed delivery date. In the U.S., you can reschedule an eligible appointment in the app, though a VIN assignment can limit pickup-location changes. Cancellation and order changes may also have financial consequences, so check the agreement for your order and the rules where you live.
My vehicle delivery has been delayed and is now past the estimated window I got when I placed the order. When will I get my vehicle?
Tesla does not promise a specific replacement date when an estimate passes. Its U.S. Taking Delivery page says the app is the source of truth for delivery timing after an order is placed. The estimate can change or temporarily disappear while production and logistics schedules are updated. Tesla says it will notify you to schedule delivery after a reported delay is resolved. - Check the app. Review the current estimate and any new messages or pre-delivery tasks.
- Complete outstanding tasks promptly. Depending on your location and payment method, these may include registration and delivery details, trade-in information, financing or payment, and insurance. - Wait for Tesla’s scheduling notice. Once the reported delay is resolved, Tesla says it will notify you to schedule. If you need a car sooner, Tesla suggests checking existing inventory, but availability—and a faster delivery—is not guaranteed.
Timing depends on production, logistics, location, and completion of required tasks. Another buyer’s delivery experience is not a reliable prediction for your order, and Tesla does not state that a delay automatically earns compensation.
Can I reschedule my delivery date in the Tesla app?
For the U.S. process, open the Tesla app and go to Pre-Delivery Tasks → Scheduling → Reschedule, then select an available date and time. Tesla says the app will not allow rescheduling when the appointment is within the next 48 hours. My delivery location is not convenient. Can I pick my vehicle up at another location?
First check whether Tesla has assigned a VIN. Tesla’s U.S. guidance says that after a VIN is assigned, the vehicle cannot be moved to another delivery location. Tesla may need to assign a different vehicle if you cannot collect it at the assigned site, and that reassignment may significantly affect the delivery estimate. Tesla says it may assign a vehicle within a 90-minute drive of the delivery address. This is a policy statement, not a guarantee that every buyer will receive a pickup location within that range. If the vehicle has not yet been assigned, ask Tesla whether a different location is possible; do not assume the change will be available or leave the estimate unchanged.
What if I want to change my order?
Use the options available in your Tesla account and check the agreement governing your specific order. Tesla’s U.S. order agreement says changes may be subject to price increases reflecting adjustments since the original order date. The reviewed guidance does not establish one universal point at which every retail buyer can make every kind of configuration change, so confirm availability and any price impact with Tesla before submitting a change. How do I cancel my vehicle order?
Tesla’s U.S. support instructions give this in-app cancellation path:
- Open the Tesla app and tap Vehicle Details → Manage → Request to cancel.
- Choose a cancellation reason.
- Tap Submit Cancellation and confirm.
Tesla’s U.S. ordering page describes the order fee as a one-time, non-refundable fee. That wording should not be treated as a legal conclusion for every country or every exceptional circumstance.
