On March 2, 2010, TelecityGroup announced plans to add approximately 4,000 square metres (43,000 square feet) of data-centre capacity and 6 MW of customer power in Frankfurt. The report described this as the second expansion of its Frankfurt facility in less than a year; it did not confirm that the announced project was completed.
What TelecityGroup announced for Frankfurt
A contemporaneous report by Rich Miller in Data Center Knowledge said the planned addition covered approximately 4,000 square metres (43,000 square feet) and included 6 MW of customer power. The figures describe the 2010 plan, not verified capacity at the site today. Read the March 2, 2010 report.
Why the company said it was expanding
Martin Essig, then Managing Director of TelecityGroup Germany, linked growth in online activity to demand for data-centre capacity. The report attributed this statement to Essig: “Germany is a major Internet market, with extremely high broadband penetration and bandwidth usage.” He also said that rising use of online services was driving demand for “high-quality carrier neutral data centre capacity.” These are quotations as reported by Data Center Knowledge, not independently verified against a company transcript. How this fit into the earlier Frankfurt expansion
The article described the plan as the second Frankfurt expansion in less than a year and reported that 1.5 MW of power capacity had been added the preceding autumn. Both figures are historical details reported in 2010; the article does not establish the later project’s completion.

What the announcement does—and does not—establish
At the time, Data Center Knowledge described TelecityGroup as operating 23 network-independent data centres in seven European countries. That was the company footprint reported in 2010, not a current portfolio count. The report also mentioned recent Frankfurt expansion activity by Equinix and plans by Savvis for a new facility, but gave no comparable figures for their capacity, power, timing or operating status.
The source documents what TelecityGroup announced and the rationale its German managing director gave. It does not confirm whether the Frankfurt project was built, or establish the site’s present ownership, name, operator or capacity. Those present-day facts should not be inferred from this announcement.
