1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsOn May 30, 2024, GeekWire reported a set of personnel changes across the Pacific Northwest technology community. The three headline moves were Workday CIO Rani Johnson joining Tanium’s board, Madrona investor Maria Gilfoyle leaving for Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, and Rob Lloyd becoming the City of Seattle’s interim chief technology officer. The roundup also included changes at PitchBook, DexCare, Legend Trading, Gravity Payments and Seattle Tech CFO. These are historical announcements; the May 2024 report does not establish whether the people involved still hold those roles in 2026.
Rani Johnson joined Tanium’s board while serving as Workday CIO
GeekWire reported that Rani Johnson, then Workday’s chief information officer, joined the board of Tanium, a cybersecurity company with a Kirkland presence. The report also described Tanium as having moved its headquarters from San Francisco to Seattle at the end of 2020. It did not give the board appointments’ effective date or specify Johnson’s board classification or committee assignments. GeekWire’s May 30, 2024 report is the source for these details.
Johnson had previously held IT leadership roles at Cloud Software Group, TIBCO and SolarWinds. Her experience as an enterprise technology operator could give Tanium’s board perspective on how large organizations evaluate and deploy IT and security products. That is a reasonable implication of her background, not a stated explanation for the appointment.
TPG partner Tim Millikin joined the board at the same time. GeekWire described Millikin as leading investment activity in software and enterprise technology and TPG as an investor in Tanium. The report also noted that Tanium raised $150 million in early 2021; it did not identify a round structure or valuation. The two appointments brought different kinds of experience—enterprise IT operations and technology investing—to the board, but the report does not say that TPG controlled Tanium or that either director would manage its day-to-day operations.
#1 Best Overall
Johnson’s board appointment, by itself, does not establish a commercial partnership between Workday and Tanium or that Johnson was leaving Workday. The available report identifies her as Workday CIO at the time and does not address any conflict arrangements.
Maria Gilfoyle left Madrona for Stanford
Maria Gilfoyle left her investor role at Seattle venture-capital firm Madrona to attend Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, according to the May 30, 2024 report. She joined Madrona in 2021 and previously worked as an investment associate at K50 Ventures.

The announcement described a career transition, not a Madrona fund closure or a wider leadership shake-up. It did not say whether Gilfoyle’s departure was temporary, whether she planned to return to investing, or what she did after the reported move.
Rob Lloyd became Seattle’s interim CTO and IT director
The City of Seattle named Rob Lloyd interim chief technology officer and director of its Information Technology Department. Lloyd had been deputy city manager for the City of San Jose. He replaced Jim Loter, who had also been serving as Seattle’s interim CTO.
Rank #3
“Interim” matters: the report announced an interim appointment, not a permanent selection. The CTO title and department-director role identify both a technology leadership position and responsibility for the city’s IT department. Such a role can touch municipal digital services, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data governance and technology procurement, but the May 2024 article did not detail Lloyd’s mandate, priorities, contract terms or expected tenure. It therefore does not support claims about which specific initiatives he would pursue.
Other personnel changes in the May 2024 roundup
- Seattle Tech CFO and The F Suite: Seattle Tech CFO was merging with The F Suite, a professional training and coaching membership community for CFOs. Evan Fein, identified as CFO at TextNow, was to become chairman of The F Suite.
- Gravity Payments: Founder Dan Price returned to the company in a role advising and assisting its CEO on strategy.
- PitchBook: Rod Diefendorf, COO since 2016, was named the company’s leader and president after founder John Gabbert’s departure. He was to retain the COO title.
- DexCare: The health technology company hired Siva Vadivelu as CFO and Kimberly Haley as senior vice president of commercial operations. The report listed Vadivelu’s prior CFO roles at Convex and Shield AI. Its text spells Haley’s surname inconsistently once, so the spelling here follows the report’s main listing rather than treating the variant as a separate person.
- Legend Trading: Chris Roling, formerly CFO at Coinme, became CFO of the Seattle-based digital-asset trading firm.
What the announcement does—and does not—establish
The roundup is a dated collection of personnel announcements, not evidence of one coordinated shift in the Seattle-area technology sector. It covers corporate governance, venture investing, municipal technology and executive roles in several industries. The details above reflect what GeekWire reported on May 30, 2024; that report does not independently verify anyone’s position in 2026. For current employment or appointment status, consult later company, university or government announcements. GeekWire’s Tech Moves archive provides series context, but is not a current-status record.
