If you’re looking for a talc-free body powder, three manufacturer-listed options here cover two formats: Gold Bond Comfort Body Powder, Lush Silky Underwear Dusting Powder, and Gold Bond No Mess Body Powder Spray – Fresh. They differ in ingredients, fragrance, and application. The available product information does not establish a “best” performer—or support a ranking of seven products—so use the comparison below to find an option that fits your preferences and check the label where you shop.
Three talc-free body powders to compare
This is a comparison of product details published by the manufacturers, not a hands-on test or an efficacy ranking. Formulas, names, packaging, and availability can vary by market; check the current package and local product page before buying.
| Product | Format and listed base | Fragrance and other details | Market and directions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold Bond Comfort Body Powder | Loose powder. The manufacturer lists corn starch, sodium bicarbonate, and silica among the first ingredients. | Fragrance is listed; the manufacturer also says the powder contains aloe and vitamins A, C, and E. Listed size: 10 oz. | The U.S. product page says to use externally, avoid eye contact, and not apply to broken or irritated skin. The manufacturer says the name changed from Gold Bond Ultimate Comfort Body Powder without a formula change. Gold Bond product details. |
| Lush Silky Underwear Dusting Powder | Loose dusting powder with a cornstarch and kaolin base; listed ingredients also include cocoa butter and magnesium carbonate. | Fragranced, with jasmine and vetivert ingredients. Not an unscented option. | The cited product page is for the UK. Check local availability, ingredients, and package directions rather than assuming another market has the same formula. Lush UK product details. |
| Gold Bond No Mess Body Powder Spray – Fresh | Spray-format powder. Its listed ingredients include corn starch, aluminum starch octenylsuccinate, kaolin, zinc oxide, and tapioca starch. | Fragrance is listed. The spray format and formula differ from loose dusting powders. | The manufacturer describes it as talc-free. Check its current label for directions and warnings. Gold Bond product details. |
How to choose between them
- Choose by format: Comfort Body Powder and Silky Underwear are loose powders; No Mess is a spray-format powder. If you prefer not to handle loose powder, consider the spray while reviewing its directions and ingredients.
- Check the ingredient list: The products use different combinations of starches and other ingredients. A talc-free label identifies one ingredient the product does not contain; it does not mean the products are otherwise interchangeable.
- Consider fragrance: Fragrance is listed for both Gold Bond products, and Lush lists parfum plus jasmine and vetivert ingredients. If you want to avoid fragrance or have a sensitivity, review the complete current ingredient list rather than relying on the product name.
- Match directions to your intended use: Follow the package directions and warnings. Gold Bond Comfort’s page specifies external use, avoiding the eyes, and not applying to broken or irritated skin.
- Confirm the local listing: Lush’s cited page is UK-specific, and product names or formulations can differ across markets. Confirm the label where you plan to purchase.
What “talc-free” does—and doesn’t—tell you
Talc is a mineral used in cosmetics. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration explains that talc and asbestos are different minerals, though deposits can occur near one another and talc can be contaminated if sourcing and purification are inadequate. Therefore, neither “talc contains asbestos” nor “talc-free means safe” is a sound blanket conclusion. See the FDA’s talc overview for its explanation of the mineral and cosmetics oversight.
On genital-area use and ovarian cancer, the FDA says published studies have not conclusively demonstrated a link and that more research is needed. That uncertainty does not establish that applying talc causes cancer, or that a talc-free body powder is appropriate for genital use. Follow each product’s stated directions.

#1 Best Overall
The FDA reported that its 2019 sampling assignment found 43 negative and 9 positive samples; in its 2022 assignment, it detected no asbestos in the 50 samples tested. Those counts describe selected samples, not the status of every product, batch, or talc source. The agency also publishes sample-specific results from 2023 testing; those results likewise do not establish the status of every product currently sold. Read the FDA’s 2019 assignment update, 2022 assignment update, and 2023 sample-results table for the scope of those findings.
Cosmetics generally do not undergo FDA review or approval before they reach the market, except for color additives; manufacturers remain responsible for product safety under labeled or customary conditions. The FDA says it withdrew its proposed rule on standardized asbestos-testing methods on November 28, 2025, after comments warranted further consideration and assessment. For current regulatory status, consult the FDA talc page.

Why this is not a seven-product ranking
The manufacturer information available for this comparison verifies three relevant examples, not seven distinct current products. It also does not provide controlled, head-to-head performance results. Treat these as options to investigate, not as a ranked list or proof that one controls moisture or odor better than another.
