SpyCloud announced AI Insights for its Investigations solution on August 6, 2025. The feature is designed to help investigators identify patterns and potential risks across identity data from breaches, malware infections and phishing campaigns. It builds on SpyCloud’s earlier IDLink identity-correlation capability; it did not introduce Research Agent, which SpyCloud announced later, on June 24, 2026.
What AI Insights does
SpyCloud describes Cybercrime Investigations as an identity-centered product delivered through a SaaS console or an API. It brings together exposure information from breaches, malware and infostealer infections, and phishing campaigns. AI Insights is intended to surface patterns and attribution signals in that material and help prepare finished intelligence for investigators.
SpyCloud says AI Insights applies investigative methods developed by its Investigations team to historical data, including signals that may indicate suspicious behavior or insider-threat risk. These are vendor descriptions of the product’s purpose, not independently validated measures of accuracy or investigative performance. SpyCloud also said the models do not include customer data in their algorithms; that data-handling statement is the company’s own.
The August 2025 release quoted Samsonite Senior Director of Global Security & Privacy Jacques Chitarra describing insider-threat reports that “populate in seconds.” This is a customer’s reported experience in SpyCloud’s announcement, not a published benchmark. SpyCloud’s August 6, 2025 announcement provides the original context.

How IDLink, AI Insights and Research Agent fit together
AI Insights is one part of a product sequence, not a replacement for identity correlation. SpyCloud announced IDLink on October 10, 2024 as a way to correlate identity data through shared usernames, email addresses, passwords and personally identifiable information. AI Insights followed in 2025, adding pattern analysis and intelligence preparation to the Investigations offering.
In June 2026, SpyCloud announced Research Agent, a conversational investigation agent. Its current product description presents the three capabilities as layers:
Rank #2
- Ideal for Gifting
- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
- IDLink: automatically correlates identity data.
- Research Agent: accepts a question, hypothesis or batch of assets and plans investigation pivots.
- AI Insights: identifies patterns and attribution signals and prepares intelligence, with reports that SpyCloud says can be exported in narrative, table or report form.
Research Agent was announced after AI Insights, so it should not be treated as part of the August 2025 launch. SpyCloud says Research Agent findings can be traced to specific recaptured records and reviewed in the console; that is a product claim, not an independent audit. The company’s June 24, 2026 Research Agent announcement describes its later addition, while the current Cybercrime Investigations page outlines the present product lineup.
Console or API: which workflow fits?
| Option | Best fit | Workflow emphasis | License information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Investigations Module | Analysts who want a guided console for examining leads and producing intelligence. | Investigation in the console and finished reports. | SpyCloud’s current FAQ says Research Agent and AI Insights are available on Pro licenses; pricing is not stated on the cited product page. |
| Investigations API | Teams that need programmatic access for custom integration, enrichment or automation. | Build the product’s data and investigation capabilities into custom workflows. | Pricing and feature-level license details are not stated on the cited product page. |
The choice depends on whether investigators need a ready-made analyst workflow or developers need to integrate data and automation into another system. The public product page distinguishes the console and API but does not publish comparative prices. Confirm current availability and licensing with SpyCloud, especially if AI Insights or Research Agent is required.

What the company’s numbers do—and do not—show
SpyCloud’s 2025 announcement says 56% of organizations experienced an insider-threat incident in the past year, attributing the figure to a survey of CISOs and security practitioners. The announcement does not state the sample size, field dates, geography, question wording or survey methodology, so the percentage should be read as a company-reported survey result rather than a general, independently verified prevalence estimate. The announcement is the source for the claim.
SpyCloud’s 2026 Research Agent announcement also reports a corpus of more than 1 trillion recaptured identity assets. It describes a “typical result” of 8× more identity records, 14× more plaintext passwords, 5× more linked emails and 2× more malware infections compared with exact-match queries alone. These are vendor-reported figures. The announcement does not provide the comparison sample or methodology needed to assess how broadly the multipliers apply. SpyCloud’s Research Agent announcement contains the figures.

Who may use it
SpyCloud identifies cyber threat intelligence, security operations, fraud and risk, and incident-response practitioners as potential users. Its current page lists use cases including threat-actor attribution, infected-host identification, financial-crime analysis, supply-chain exposure, insider risk, identity exposure, synthetic-identity analysis and employment fraud. These are the company’s stated use cases; suitability depends on an organization’s data, investigative needs, licensing and workflow.
For a finance or risk team, the practical relevance is that identity exposure can connect otherwise separate investigative leads—for example, an exposed identity record and a malware infection—while the product aims to help analysts turn those connections into an investigation or report. The available product descriptions do not establish that AI Insights alone detects or prevents fraud, insider incidents or cybercrime.
