South Korea’s Youth Future Savings Account (청년미래적금) is a launched, three-year government-supported savings account—not just a proposal. As of October 4, 2026, the second application window is scheduled for October 7–16; eligible applicants are scheduled to open accounts from November 16, after screening. Depending on eligibility, deposits may receive a 6% or 12% government contribution, while some applicants qualify for tax benefits without a government match.
How the Youth Future Savings Account works
The account has a three-year contract. Account holders may deposit from KRW 1,000 to KRW 500,000 per month, according to the Financial Services Commission’s September 16, 2026 second-round notice. The statutory contribution ceiling is KRW 6 million per year.
Government matching depends on the applicant’s category: eligible general accounts receive a 6% contribution, and qualifying preferential accounts receive 12%. These are policy rates, not a promise that every account holder will receive a match. Some people above the contribution-eligibility thresholds may receive tax treatment without a government contribution.
Eligible interest is exempt from income tax under Article 91-25 of the Restriction of Special Taxation Act, subject to the law and implementing criteria. The statute also provides for recovery of the tax benefit in many cases of termination before the three-year term, with exceptions for prescribed unavoidable circumstances.

When can I apply?
The Financial Services Commission’s September 16, 2026 notice schedules the second application round for October 7 through October 16. Applicants who pass screening are scheduled to open accounts from November 16. A September 30 government policy listing also confirms the upcoming round. These are future dates as of October 4, 2026; check the current official notice for any changes before applying.
The June launch guidance described applying through participating financial institutions’ apps. For this second round, follow the current notice and the participating institution’s instructions rather than assuming that every institution or application step is unchanged from launch.

Who may qualify?
The second-round notice sets the general age range at 19–34. Qualifying military service, up to six years, is excluded when calculating age. Age alone does not establish eligibility: income, household circumstances and employment or business status affect both acceptance and the benefit category.
The notice describes a contribution-eligible general band for wage earners with annual salary at or below KRW 60 million, or small-business owners with annual sales at or below KRW 300 million, subject to the applicable household median-income ceiling. Applicants above the contribution thresholds may fall into a tax-benefit-only band. A 12% preferential contribution is reserved for specified SME workers or small-business owners who meet tighter criteria.

These categories should not be treated as a complete eligibility checklist. The September 16 notice contains the detailed thresholds and conditions; applicants should check those rules, household criteria and required documents against their circumstances. The second round uses 2025 income records for review.
How much can you save, and what does the match mean?
| Account feature | Published term |

| Contract term | Three years (Financial Services Commission, September 16, 2026) |
| Monthly deposit range | KRW 1,000–500,000 (Financial Services Commission, September 16, 2026) |
| Annual contribution ceiling | KRW 6 million (Restriction of Special Taxation Act, Article 91-25, effective September 18, 2026) |
| Government contribution | 6% for the general contribution category or 12% for specified preferential categories; some applicants receive no match (Financial Services Commission, September 16, 2026) |
| Tax treatment | Eligible interest is exempt from income tax, subject to statutory and implementing criteria (Restriction of Special Taxation Act, Article 91-25) |
The percentages describe government contributions for qualifying deposits in the specified categories; they are not interest rates or a guaranteed account return. The reviewed official guidance does not establish a verified participation total, average balance or measured impact result, so the published terms should be understood as program design rather than evidence of typical outcomes.

Can I switch from the Youth Leap Account?
The June launch guidance said Youth Leap Account holders using the transfer route should open the Youth Future Savings Account before terminating the older account. The September second-round notice says another switching opportunity will be provided. Because the procedure can depend on the application cycle, confirm the current switching sequence with the Financial Services Commission notice and participating institution before closing or transferring an account.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What happens if you end the account early?
Ending the account before three years can affect tax benefits: Article 91-25 provides for recovery of the benefit in many early-termination cases. The statute makes exceptions for prescribed unavoidable circumstances, but the account’s treatment depends on the applicable criteria and the reason for termination. Review the current rules and ask the participating institution how a planned withdrawal or closure would affect your specific account before acting.
