Skidbladner was a proposed floating offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea, not a new project now moving toward construction. Sweden’s government rejected its permit application on November 4, 2024. Eolus had proposed up to 147 turbines with 2.2 GW of installed capacity and estimated annual production of 11.7 TWh—an amount the company compared with roughly half of Stockholm County’s electricity consumption.
What Skidbladner was supposed to be
Swedish developer Eolus proposed Skidbladner as a large floating offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. The turbines would have stood on floating foundations held in place by mooring and anchoring systems attached to the seabed. They would not have been fixed directly to the seabed, nor would they have drifted freely.
Floating foundations can make offshore sites in deeper water accessible, while allowing a wind farm to be placed farther from shore. Those advantages do not make a project automatically buildable: it still needs permits, financing, grid connections, and solutions for competing uses of the sea.

| Planned installed capacity | 2.2 GW |
| Estimated annual generation | 11.7 TWh |
| Maximum blade-tip height | 360 m |
| Project area | Approximately 1,400 km² |
| Location | Approximately 20 km north of Gotska Sandön and 100 km southeast of Stockholm |
| Application submitted | June 2024 |
| Original target for operations | 2033 |
| Current application status | Rejected November 4, 2024 |
These are planning figures published by Eolus, not measurements from an operating wind farm. “Up to 147” was a proposed maximum, not a confirmed order or final turbine count. The project’s published coordinates are approximately 58.634039, 19.806571.

What “power half of Stockholm” meant
The phrase referred to an estimated annual-energy comparison: Eolus said the proposed 11.7 TWh of yearly generation would equal roughly half of Stockholm County’s electricity consumption at the time of the application. It did not mean a dedicated supply contract for Stockholm city or a promise that the turbines would provide electricity to half the county every hour.
Capacity and energy describe different things. The planned 2.2 GW was the farm’s nameplate capacity—the maximum output under specified conditions—not a constant supply. The 11.7 TWh was the developer’s estimated production over a year. Wind output varies, and annual production is not the same as firm, continuously available power.

- The windmill generator uses green science to harness wind power and light an LED bulb.
- This kit contains all the materials needed to build a 5-inch windmill generator with LED light. Just add a recycled soda bottle.
- An enclosed pamphlet contains fun facts about renewable energy.
- Detailed assembly instructions included.
- Recommended for ages 8 years and up.
Dividing Eolus’s estimated 11.7 TWh by the 8,760 hours in a year implies average output of about 1.34 GW, or approximately 61% of the proposed 2.2 GW capacity. This is arithmetic based on the company’s planning figures, not an independently verified operating result or a guarantee of future performance. The Stockholm comparison appears in Eolus’s application announcement.
Where it would have been built
The proposed site was in the Baltic Sea, about 20 km north of Gotska Sandön and about 100 km southeast of Stockholm. Calling it a wind farm “off Stockholm’s coast” would give a misleading impression of its location: it was well offshore, near Gotska Sandön, rather than immediately outside the capital.

- Build and experiment with a real, working 3-foot tall wind turbine to learn how wind is one of the most promising sources of clean, renewable energy available today.
- Single-piece blade construction for improved durability and better aerodynamics.
- Generate electricity to charge a battery and power a small model car.
- New weatherproof battery box can be left outside!
- Includes stakes to secure the turbine to the ground.
The distance from shore was part of Eolus’s case for the project, including the potential for favorable wind conditions and reduced visibility from land. A site’s distance and wind potential, however, do not settle questions about environmental protection, maritime activity, defense, or connecting the electricity to the grid.
How the proposal reached the rejected application
Eolus’s project timeline lists a feasibility investigation in 2022, consultation in March 2023, supplementary consultation in December 2023, and supplementary Natura 2000 consultation in April 2024. The company submitted its application in June 2024 and announced it publicly on July 1. Its original target was to begin operations in 2033, a development goal that ceased to be a current schedule when the application was rejected.

The Eolus project page records the November 4, 2024 rejection. The Swedish government’s offshore-wind page also lists Skidbladner as rejected on that date.

The available government status listing confirms the rejection, but does not provide a complete project-specific explanation in the information cited here. It therefore does not establish that defense, shipping, environmental protection, fisheries, grid capacity, or any other single issue was the reason for Skidbladner’s decision. Assigning a specific cause without the decision’s documented reasoning would be speculation.

- Realistic Wind Turbine Model: This wind turbine model toy mimics a real wind turbine to scale, and the most interesting thing is that its blades can also turn.
- 21.65inch Large Size Model: Compared to other ordinary wind turbine models, this wind turbine model has a large size, which can be installed up to 55cm/ 21.65inch.
- Wind-up Wind Turbine: This windmill toy adopts wind-up design that enables the blades turn automatically after it gets winded up. To wind it up, we just need to turn its blades clockwise for several rounds.
- Learn While Playing: This model of a wind turbine is not only a toy, but also a scientific and educational tool. It can guide children to understand the role of wind and inertia more intuitively, and cultivate children's interest in science.
- Suitable for Multiple Occasions: Kids can play with this windmill toy on their own or DIY transform it in the company of their parents. Teachers can also use it as an improvised teaching tool in the classroom.
More broadly, offshore-wind proposals in Sweden’s economic zone are subject to government review and consultation with relevant authorities, municipalities, and organizations. The government describes interests that can include shipping, fishing, nature, and defense. A project’s modeled output and technical feasibility do not by themselves satisfy those permitting requirements.
What the rejection means now
Skidbladner should be treated as a rejected proposal, not as an approved, financed, under-construction, or operating wind farm. The current Eolus project listing records the rejection and does not establish a revived project or a replacement application. The sources cited here do not establish that Eolus appealed, sought reconsideration, or submitted a redesigned successor project, so none should be assumed.
A fresh or revised proposal would require the approvals applicable to that proposal; the rejected application does not amount to permission to proceed. The original 2033 target is not a current commissioning forecast.
