Siemens announced an agreement to acquire enterprise wireless-LAN provider Chantry Networks on December 9, 2004. The deal was intended to add Chantry’s BeaconWorks WLAN controllers, access points and management software to Siemens Communications’ HiPath portfolio, supporting enterprise voice-and-data convergence and mobile-office deployments. Siemens’ 2005 records later list Chantry Networks, Inc. as wholly owned and place it within the Communications Group.
What Siemens announced in December 2004
Chantry’s December 9, 2004 announcement said Siemens had agreed to acquire the company. Chantry was headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, with product development in Toronto. Contemporary trade coverage expected the transaction to close in early 2005.
The announcement framed the transaction as a portfolio expansion rather than a consumer networking purchase: Siemens wanted to extend its HiPath communications expertise into enterprise WLAN technology and mobile-office applications.
Why Chantry mattered to Siemens
Enterprise WLAN capability
Chantry’s BeaconWorks family supplied enterprise wireless-LAN infrastructure, including WLAN controllers, access points and management software. That gave Siemens a ready-made wireless platform to complement its established communications products.

Wireless voice and data
Chantry’s stated positioning emphasized convergence of wireless voice and data, including mobility between access points and attention to voice quality. These were the companies’ strategic claims and contemporary descriptions, not independently tested performance results.
Andy Mattes, then a member of the Siemens Communications Group Board, described the rationale this way: “With the Chantry team and its BeaconWorks product line we have found just the right partner to optimally supplement our portfolio with wireless voice-data convergence.”

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.

What happened to BeaconWorks
Siemens initially incorporated the acquired technology under the HiPath Wireless Mobility Solutions name. The rebranded offering covered the same broad enterprise categories: controllers, access points and WLAN-management software.
The historical sources establish the products and branding used in 2005. They do not establish that BeaconWorks or the HiPath-branded equipment remains supported, available, repairable or compatible with current Wi-Fi networks.

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
How much did Siemens pay?
Siemens and Chantry did not disclose financial terms in the contemporary reporting reviewed. A Light Reading report relayed an estimate of approximately $85 million from a source familiar with the negotiations. That figure was not an official Siemens or Chantry purchase-price disclosure and should not be presented as the confirmed deal value.
The 100% figure in Siemens’ 2005 subsidiary listing describes ownership, not consideration paid for the acquisition.

What the acquisition means for readers today
It is a historical communications deal
The transaction shows Siemens using an acquisition to add enterprise WLAN technology to its business-communications portfolio at a time when mobile offices and wireless voice were strategic priorities.
It is not a current buying guide
The available records do not verify present-day inventory, vendor support, firmware updates, replacement parts or interoperability for BeaconWorks or HiPath Wireless Mobility Solutions. Buyers evaluating a legacy unit would need current documentation and a confirmed support channel rather than relying on the 2004–05 branding.
