Sharmin Ali’s PiePie AI Announced a $500,000 Pre-Seed Round. Public Records Tell a More Complicated Story.

PiePie AI announced a $500,000 pre-seed in July 2024, but public databases list lower totals. Here’s what the announcement said and what is known about the company’s later acquisition and current domain.

On July 16, 2024, TechBullion reported that Sharmin Ali’s PiePie AI had announced a $500,000 pre-seed round, naming Right Side Capital and Techstars New York City as investors. The startup was developing an AI-assisted tool for making video ads. The amount is not consistently reflected in public funding databases, and Ali later announced that Bluebells Media acquired PiePie AI. As of August 2026, the piepie.ai domain promotes a different-looking, child-focused AI product; continuity with the original video-ad business has not been established.

What PiePie AI announced in July 2024

TechBullion’s July 16, 2024 article reported that PiePie AI had closed a $500,000 pre-seed round. It named Right Side Capital and Techstars New York City as investors and said the funding would support user acquisition and expansion in the New York area. The announcement does not disclose how much each investor contributed, the financing instrument, or a company valuation. TechBullion’s account is the source for the $500,000 figure; it should be understood as the reported announcement, not as a publicly reconciled financing record.

Neither a specific equity, SAFE, nor convertible-note structure is established by that account. Techstars published general 2024 investment terms that included $20,000 in common equity representing 6% at a qualified financing and an optional $100,000 convertible note, with a valuation cap generally between $3 million and $5 million. Those were program-wide terms, not evidence of PiePie AI’s individual deal. Techstars’ 2024 terms do not resolve the company’s actual financing structure.

What the product was intended to do

PiePie AI was positioned as a way for businesses and individuals without professional editing skills to produce video advertisements more quickly and at lower cost. The workflow described in the announcement combined templates, stock media, script-to-footage matching, image and logo uploads, AI voiceovers, and tools to merge and crop clips. It was aimed at brands, startups, creators, and larger businesses.

TechBullion said the platform had more than 2,000 templates. That is a product claim reported by the article, not an independently audited catalog count. The description suggests a simplified ad-production workflow, but does not establish how well the matching worked, what assets were licensed for, or whether users achieved better campaign results.

The product pitch addressed a familiar trade-off: templates and automation can reduce production time and technical barriers, but can also result in generic creative, mismatched footage, or framing that does not suit every platform. Commercial users would also need clear terms for stock-media rights, ownership of generated work, voice consent and disclosure, and brand safety. The announcement supplies no verified customer, revenue, retention, conversion, or ad-performance figures to judge those questions.

Why public funding figures conflict

Public records display lower figures than the announcement. These entries may capture different portions or classifications of the financing, and neither should simply be added to the other. They do not, on their own, establish which figure is definitive.

Source Funding figure What it establishes
TechBullion, July 16, 2024 $500,000 pre-seed The amount reported in the announcement.
PiePie AI’s LinkedIn company page $150,000 pre-seed, dated March 27, 2024 A public company-page funding listing.
CB Insights $270,000 across two rounds, including a $150,000 pre-seed A third-party database record, not an audited financial statement.

The gap could reflect incomplete database entries, different round classifications, earlier or multiple financing instruments, or an inaccurate figure in one or more records. The available information does not show which explanation applies. The TechBullion account and CB Insights both identify Right Side Capital among the investors, but the exact amount it invested is not established. The named investors should not be confused with a disclosed allocation of the full reported round.

Who Sharmin Ali is

Ali is identified as PiePie AI’s founder and CEO. Her professional background also includes founding Instoried, an emotion-AI company, and Art-Right-Is Productions, a media and content venture. She founded the Sharmin Ali Foundation for Entrepreneurs (SAFE), and presents herself as an author, speaker, and mental-health advocate.

Ali’s own website says her first startup achieved an eight-figure exit and that she raised millions for a subsequent venture. Other professional profiles make claims including an eight-figure exit and $200 million raised for Instoried. These are biographical claims attributed to Ali or her profiles, not independently verified financial records. SAFE describes its mission and Ali’s ventures on its website; an Intro profile also presents her professional biography.

What happened after the funding announcement

Ali later announced that Bluebells Media had acquired PiePie AI, describing the deal as a way to provide resources and reach to scale the technology globally. Her announcement does not disclose a purchase price, transaction structure, or detailed account of which assets and rights transferred. A Stackforce profile lists her PiePie founder-and-CEO role as ending in June 2025 and describes the company as acquired by Blue Bells Media. The profile is a separate professional listing, not a substitute for transaction documents.

The domain presents a further continuity question. The current piepie.ai site promotes a child-focused AI companion, rather than the video-ad creation platform described in the 2024 announcement. This difference, together with the acquisition announcement, means readers should not assume the original ad tool is still operating under the same name or at that address. Public information cited here does not establish the relationship between the current offering and the acquired business.

What remains unverified

  • The definitive total and composition of PiePie AI’s financing, including whether the reported $500,000 was gross financing or a particular tranche.
  • The amount contributed by each named investor, the instrument used, and any valuation.
  • Product traction or results, including customers, revenue, retention, and advertising performance.
  • The original platform’s commercial licensing, voice-use, content-ownership, and brand-safety terms.
  • The acquisition price, transaction structure, transferred assets, and the original product’s availability after the acquisition.

The funding announcement documents a real startup news event, but its headline figure and the company’s later product status need qualification. The strongest public account is that TechBullion reported a $500,000 pre-seed announcement in July 2024, while LinkedIn and CB Insights show conflicting lower figures and Ali subsequently announced an acquisition by Bluebells Media.
