Samsung’s September 19, 2025 promotion offered up to $1,120 in combined value on the Galaxy Z Fold7, but it was not a universal $1,120 price cut. Droid Life reported that the maximum required an eligible device receiving up to $1,000 in instant trade-in credit, plus a free storage upgrade valued at $120. The promotion was tied to iPhone 17 launch day and should be treated as historical, not as a guaranteed offer today.
What the iPhone 17 day Fold7 deal actually was
On September 19, 2025—the U.S. launch day for the iPhone 17—Samsung promoted the Galaxy Z Fold7 through its shopping channel. Droid Life reported the offer as a way to attract premium-phone shoppers during Apple’s biggest launch-day sales window, although Samsung did not publicly establish that the promotion was an official campaign against Apple.
The reported maximum was a combination of trade-in credit and an upgrade benefit. It was not $1,120 taken off every Fold7 invoice, and it was not necessarily available through every carrier or retailer.

How the $1,120 figure was calculated
The arithmetic was straightforward: a qualifying trade-in worth the promotional maximum of $1,000, plus a reported $120 value for moving from the base storage configuration to the next tier. Together, those benefits produced the headline figure and an approximately $999 net price in the best-case scenario.
That scenario applied only when Samsung’s estimator assigned the submitted device the full promotional value. Your result could have been lower because Samsung’s quote depended on the exact model, storage, condition, eligibility and promotion terms. Taxes, checkout charges, account restrictions, shipping requirements and non-stackable offers also affected the final transaction.
What the storage upgrade means
A storage upgrade is not the same as $120 in cash or an additional credit against the phone. It gives the buyer a higher-capacity Fold7 for the promotional value Samsung assigned to that upgrade. The historical $120 figure should not be reconstructed from today’s list-price difference: Samsung’s current U.S. page shows a different $200 gap between the 256GB and 512GB versions.

What happened without a trade-in
Droid Life reported a smaller $300 instant discount, plus the free storage upgrade, for customers who did not trade in a device. A lower-value trade-in would have landed between that result and the maximum scenario. An old iPhone or Galaxy phone did not automatically qualify for $1,000.
What the Fold7 costs in the U.S. now
As checked September 29, 2026, Samsung’s U.S. buy page lists the Galaxy Z Fold7 at these pre-trade-in prices:
| Configuration | Samsung U.S. list price |
|---|---|
| 256GB | $1,999.99 |
| 512GB | $2,199.99 |
| 1TB | $2,499.99 |
The same page advertises up to $1,000 in Samsung trade-in value, while Samsung’s featured-offers page also shows that maximum. Trade-in amounts and other discounts can change by device, condition and promotion, so the amount shown in checkout is the relevant number. See the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 buy page before ordering.

Do not treat the current $1,999.99 starting price or the current $1,000 maximum as proof that the 2025 iPhone-day promotion is still running. They are separate, dated offers.
How Samsung trade-in works—and where buyers get surprised
Samsung applies the quoted trade-in credit toward the qualifying purchase. Its process generally follows these steps:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Select the Fold7 and choose the device you plan to trade in.
- Review the instant credit displayed at checkout.
- Back up the old device, remove accounts and activation locks, and factory-reset it.
- Ship it within the deadline in Samsung’s order instructions.
- Samsung or its trade-in partner inspects the device.
- The credit remains subject to the submitted device’s identity, condition and program terms.
Samsung says its program can accept qualifying phones, tablets, watches, PCs, earbuds and other devices, depending on the promotion. Read the current Samsung Trade-In terms and your order email rather than relying on a headline maximum.

Common causes of a credit adjustment
- The model or storage tier does not match the submission.
- The screen is cracked, the device does not power on, or it has liquid or other damage.
- Activation Lock, Google lock or a Samsung account remains enabled.
- Personal data was not erased.
- The shipping deadline is missed or the device is damaged in transit.
- The promotion cannot be combined with another Samsung, carrier or retailer offer.
Photograph the device’s condition and serial information, keep the shipping receipt and tracking number, and retain the old phone until the Fold7 is activated and your data is verified. Confirm the return deadline and condition rules in the current terms.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Fold7 a sensible alternative to an iPhone 17?
This is a category decision, not simply a price comparison. The Fold7 opens into a larger, tablet-like display suited to multitasking; the iPhone 17 remains a conventional slab phone. Choose based on how you use a phone, not on the largest promotional number.
The Fold7 makes more sense when
- You specifically want an unfolded screen for reading, work, media or side-by-side apps.
- Your trade-in receives close to Samsung’s maximum quote.
- You are comfortable moving from iOS to Android and Samsung’s ecosystem.
- You have budgeted for foldable-specific protection and potential repair costs.
The deal is less compelling when
- Your device receives a low trade-in quote or could sell for more privately.
- You want a standard phone and do not need a foldable display.
- You rely on Apple Watch, iMessage, FaceTime, AirDrop or Apple-only accessories and services.
- You prioritize simpler hardware and lower repair exposure.
No conclusion about camera quality, battery life, durability or performance versus the iPhone 17 should be drawn from this promotion alone; those require current comparative testing.

If you are moving from iPhone to Galaxy
Before accepting a trade-in quote, work through this checklist:
- Transfer or export photos, contacts, calendars, notes, passwords and messages where possible. No transfer tool reproduces every Apple service or message history perfectly.
- Deregister iMessage before moving your phone number to Android so new texts are not misrouted.
- Check Apple Watch compatibility; an Apple Watch is not a full-featured Android companion.
- Review Apple subscriptions and services, and identify Android replacements where necessary.
- Confirm that your carrier supports the unlocked Fold7 and the 5G bands you need.
- Compare Samsung’s instant trade-in quote with a carrier offer and at least one private-sale estimate.
- Keep the iPhone until the Fold7 is activated, accounts are working and important data has been checked.
Price the protection before calling it a bargain
Foldable hinges and inner displays are more specialized than standard-phone hardware. Samsung’s Fold7 offer pages list Care+ at $13 per month or $269 for two years, and Care+ with Theft and Loss at $18 per month or $349 for two years, subject to location and eligibility. Deductibles, claim limits and coverage terms apply; compare them with insurance you already have.
Samsung’s offers page also lists limited extras such as two months of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for eligible new subscribers, six months of SiriusXM for qualifying purchasers, and discounts or trials for LumaFusion and Storyblocks. These are promotional services, not reductions in the phone’s purchase price. Lightroom renews at the then-current subscription rate unless canceled; Samsung listed that rate as $11.99 per month when shown. Check the current Fold7 offers page for eligibility and expiration terms.
Bottom line for buyers today
The $1,120 headline described a real but time-limited September 19, 2025 promotion. It was attractive mainly to someone with a high-value eligible trade-in who already wanted a foldable. For everyone else, the no-trade-in discount was smaller, and the storage upgrade was value in kind rather than cash.
