Samsung’s Galaxy Store uses a standard 80/20 revenue share for eligible game sales made through Samsung Checkout: developers receive 80% of net sales proceeds and Samsung retains 20%. The policy took effect May 15, 2025, at 00:00 GMT. It is not 80% of every dollar a customer pays: taxes and other applicable deductions come out before the split. Subscriptions have a separate 85/15 share.
What Samsung changed—and when
Samsung announced the change on March 13, 2025, replacing its previous standard 70/30 model with 80/20 for eligible transactions. The new terms took effect May 15, 2025, at 00:00 GMT. The policy covers more than games: Samsung lists paid apps, themes, and consumable and non-consumable in-app purchases as well. Samsung’s announcement and its Galaxy Store FAQ describe the current terms.

The standard terms apply to transactions through Samsung Checkout. They should not be treated as a universal rate for every payment route available on a Galaxy device. A separate custom agreement can also set different terms.
What “80%” means for a game’s payout
The split is calculated on net sales proceeds, not automatically on the customer’s full payment. Samsung says customary costs can include sales tax, bank fees, payment-related charges, and other applicable taxes or fees. Its Galaxy Store statistics documentation distinguishes gross sales from earnings calculated after applicable deductions, including VAT, commission, payment-gateway charges, taxes, and other costs.

For illustration only, suppose a player pays $10 and applicable deductions leave $9 in net sales proceeds. At 80/20, the developer would receive $7.20 and Samsung $1.80. The $9 remainder is hypothetical, not a guaranteed deduction rate or settlement amount. Actual results depend on factors such as market, tax treatment, payment method, currency conversion, discounts, refunds, and the governing Seller Portal terms.
When forecasting revenue, use settlement or earnings data rather than assuming that gross sales equal the amount to which the split applies. Samsung’s terminology and calculation details matter: the percentage alone does not reveal the developer’s take-home amount from a given consumer payment.

Who gets the standard terms?
Samsung said the new standard model would be applied automatically to developers and publishers already distributing through Seller Portal who had accepted its terms, without an opt-in step. Publishers with a custom agreement remain governed by that agreement unless they contact Samsung about moving to the standard model. Sales before May 15, 2025 were not retroactively converted and remained under the prior terms unless a custom agreement provided otherwise. See Samsung’s announcement for the transition terms.
What a new publisher must do
The revenue split does not remove the usual publishing requirements. Samsung’s Get Started guide and app-registration guide describe the onboarding process. In broad terms, a new publisher needs to:

- Create or use a Samsung account and register in Galaxy Store Seller Portal.
- Apply for commercial seller status when distributing apps.
- Register the game, upload its binary and store metadata, and configure its price and distribution countries.
- Register in-app purchase products if the game sells digital goods or subscriptions through Samsung’s systems.
- Submit the title for Samsung review and publication.
Samsung says there is no sign-up or annual publishing fee; revenue sharing still applies to eligible sales made through Samsung Checkout. Publication remains subject to Samsung’s requirements and local law. Its distribution guide explains that Samsung can withhold, remove, or stop publication for policy or legal compliance reasons.
What to check before bringing a Google Play game over
A Galaxy Store release can involve more than uploading another Android build. Samsung recommends reviewing its guidance for apps also distributed through other stores. In particular, Samsung says apps using Samsung In-App Purchase should generally use a different package name if the same content is or will be on Google Play; the right design depends on the game’s billing and distribution setup. Billing, products, and player entitlements
- Plan for Samsung’s billing integration separately from Google Play Billing.
- Map product identifiers and catalogs across stores, and decide how purchases and entitlements will stay consistent for a player who uses more than one version.
- Test refunds, cancellations, and customer-support procedures for each store’s purchase flow.
Builds, delivery, and updates
Samsung’s FAQ says Galaxy Store generates a universal APK from an uploaded Android App Bundle and currently does not support Google Play Asset Delivery or Play Feature Delivery. A game that relies on either Google-specific delivery system may need changes before it can work correctly on Galaxy Store. Audit asset loading and dependencies, check the signing and update path, and test an update over an existing installation rather than only testing a fresh install.
Release operations and measurement
- Validate device and OS coverage, regional pricing, and country availability for the actual release.
- Confirm analytics, attribution, and crash reporting work for Galaxy Store installs and store-specific builds.
- Account for separate release, QA, and support workflows when estimating the ongoing cost of another storefront.
Can Galaxy Store help players discover a game?
Samsung offers options including editorial consideration, pre-registration, discounts, coupons, and store badges or links. Pre-registration can promote a game before launch and support automatic downloading when it becomes available. These are possible merchandising tools, not a promise of downloads or sales. Samsung says Discover-tab editorial features are available to Galaxy Store users in the United States and South Korea; regional availability of other tools can vary. How to decide whether the extra storefront is worthwhile
The commercial question is whether incremental Galaxy Store contribution covers the cost of adding and maintaining the channel. A higher developer percentage does not, by itself, establish higher profit: the store must bring enough additional sales, and the team must be able to support the release efficiently.
Build a channel-level estimate
Estimate the store’s contribution using your own assumptions and observed results. Separate gross sales from deductions and operating costs rather than comparing headline percentages alone.
- Estimate likely Galaxy Store sales based on your audience and target countries.
- Account for taxes, refunds, payment and banking deductions, and Samsung’s commission.
- Subtract one-time porting and integration work, then ongoing QA, release management, support, localization, analytics, and acquisition costs.
- Compare the resulting incremental contribution with the cost of keeping the game available there.
Signs it may fit
- Your game already has meaningful Samsung-device demand or targets markets where Galaxy Store users are relevant.
- Your Android build pipeline can support another storefront at low incremental cost.
- The game can accommodate Samsung billing and cross-store entitlement handling.
- You have a realistic path to reach players through existing demand, merchandising opportunities, or marketing.
Signs to be cautious
- Nearly all current players arrive through Google Play and there is little evidence of additional Galaxy Store demand.
- Google-specific services or delivery features would require substantial rework.
- Your team cannot maintain separate billing, release, update, analytics, and support processes.
- Any expected commission savings could be outweighed by lower conversion, limited discovery, or added operating costs.
How the split compares with other Android options
Do not compare Samsung’s 80% share with another store’s headline rate as if the figures have identical fee bases and rules. Google Play’s fees vary by country, product, billing method, developer program, and revenue tier. Its current lower-service-fee documentation describes multiple schedules, including changes beginning June 30, 2026, for the United States, United Kingdom, and European Economic Area. Check the terms applicable to your product and market before making a direct comparison.
Epic Games Store is another possible channel. Epic’s revenue-share program describes a 100% developer share up to $1 million per product per calendar year, followed by an 88/12 split, subject to its rules. That is not an apples-to-apples alternative to Galaxy Store: audience reach, installation friction, billing, eligibility, and acquisition costs differ. More generally, compare net contribution and channel fit—not commission percentages in isolation.
