Samsung’s advertised $1,020 saving was real—but only as a maximum combined promotional value in a U.S. Presidents’ Day offer reported on February 14, 2025. It combined up to $900 in instant trade-in credit with a free upgrade from 256GB to 512GB valued at $120. It was not a universal $1,020 price cut, and the promotion should not be treated as active in 2026.
What the $1,020 headline actually meant
The promotion bundled benefits with different forms of value:
- Up to $900: instant credit for an eligible trade-in device.
- $120: Samsung’s stated value for upgrading from 256GB to 512GB at no extra charge.
- Accessory credit: $80 when selecting the 512GB promotion or $60 with the 1TB option. This was a checkout-only credit, not cash back or a general gift card.
Thus, “$1,020 off” meant the maximum combined value of the trade-in and storage upgrade. Only customers with a qualifying high-value phone could approach that figure, and the storage value was not the same as a cash reduction from every buyer’s checkout total.
The deal was reported by Droid Life on February 14, 2025 as a continuation of Samsung’s launch-period promotions.

Which trade-ins qualified for the highest reported credits?
The February 2025 report listed these maximum promotional values:
| Trade-in device | Reported maximum credit |
|---|---|
| Galaxy S24 Ultra | $900 |
| Galaxy Z Fold 6 | $900 |
| Galaxy Z Fold 5 | $900 |
| Galaxy S23 Ultra | $750 |
| Galaxy S24+ | $700 |
| Galaxy Z Flip 6 | $700 |
| Galaxy S24 | $600 |
| Galaxy S22 Ultra | $600 |
| Galaxy Note 20 Ultra | $600 |
| Galaxy S23+ | $600 |
| Galaxy Z Flip 5 | $600 |
These were promotional values at that time, not guarantees for later purchases. Samsung can change eligible models and credit amounts at its discretion.
How the storage promotion worked
256GB to 512GB at no added charge
Customers who selected the storage offer received the 512GB Galaxy S25 Ultra for the 256GB price. Samsung’s promotion described that upgrade as a $120 value. “Double storage” referred specifically to 256GB becoming 512GB—not to a free upgrade from 512GB to 1TB.

The 1TB option was still more expensive
The reported 1TB promotion included a $120 discount. It therefore remained $120 more than the discounted 512GB option rather than becoming free.

Accessory credit was separate
The reported checkout credit was $80 with the 512GB promotion and $60 with the 1TB promotion. It had to be applied to eligible accessories during that checkout. It did not remain as cash, a refund, or a general Samsung account balance for a later order.

How to estimate the actual amount paid
There was no single final price because the starting SKU, trade-in, taxes, accessories and financing choice changed the total. The practical calculation was:
Final device price = list price − eligible trade-in credit − any applicable instant discount + taxes + optional accessories or protection.
The free storage should be counted as added value unless Samsung explicitly showed it as a separate reduction on the checkout screen. Monthly financing payments also do not measure total savings; compare the full device price and any required plan costs.

Who could receive the maximum?
The headline outcome depended on all of the following:
- A U.S. Samsung offer that was still available for the selected model and color.
- A qualifying trade-in model in the required condition.
- Correctly selecting the storage and trade-in options before payment.
- Meeting Samsung’s shipping and inspection requirements.
A low-value or ineligible phone would produce less than $900, so its owner could not receive the full advertised combined value.

Samsung’s current U.S. trade-in guidance says the device must generally power on, hold a charge, have a functioning display, be free of disqualifying damage, have anti-theft locks disabled and be factory-reset. Leased devices are generally ineligible unless purchased from the carrier first. Review the current requirements at Samsung’s trade-in page before ordering.

The 15-day shipping deadline
Samsung’s terms normally require the old device to be shipped within 15 days after the new product arrives. The anticipated credit is applied at purchase, but Samsung can charge it back if the device is late or fails inspection.
What happens after inspection?
If Samsung finds that the phone does not meet the stated requirements, it can reduce or remove the credit. A rejected device may be returned if requested under Samsung’s conditions and deadlines. Once Samsung accepts the trade-in, it generally cannot be recovered. Remove cases and ordinary cables; send required device-specific items, such as an S Pen or an earbud charging case, when the applicable instructions require them.
Samsung instant credit versus carrier promotions
Samsung’s program applies an instant discount at checkout. A carrier’s “up to” offer may instead arrive as monthly bill credits over 24 or 36 months and may require a qualifying plan. Those are separate programs and generally cannot be combined with Samsung’s instant trade-in discount. Compare the total bill-credit value, plan cost and time commitment rather than comparing only the headline number. Samsung explains the distinction at its trade-in terms page.
Was the $1,020 promotion still available?
No evidence in the cited Samsung pages shows the February 2025 package continuing unchanged into 2026. A Samsung U.S. product-page variant observed on August 18, 2026 displayed list prices of $1,299.99 for 256GB, $1,419.99 for 512GB and $1,659.99 for 1TB. Other variants showed a $300 instant discount, while some were out of stock. Prices and offers vary by SKU, color, connectivity option, inventory and eligibility.

Quick Recap
When the promotion made sense
Stronger case
- You owned a qualifying Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 5 or Galaxy Z Fold 6 in acceptable condition.
- You wanted 512GB storage and would use Samsung accessories during the same checkout.
- You preferred an immediate Samsung discount over selling the old phone yourself.
Weaker case
- Your trade-in was cracked, locked, leased, blacklisted, financed or otherwise damaged.
- Private resale would likely return more than Samsung’s credit.
- You did not need more than 256GB.
- You could not reliably ship the phone within the deadline.
- A carrier offer provided greater total value after accounting for plan requirements and delayed bill credits.
A safer checkout process
- Open Samsung’s current Galaxy S25 Ultra configuration page and confirm the exact SKU, storage, color, stock status and displayed price.
- Select the trade-in model and read the estimated credit before placing the order.
- Choose the storage promotion only if it appears in the live checkout; do not assume the old 256GB-to-512GB offer remains.
- Add eligible accessories before payment if a checkout credit is displayed.
- Save the order, trade-in confirmation and shipping instructions.
- Back up, remove account locks, factory-reset and ship the old phone within Samsung’s stated deadline.
- Keep the tracking record until Samsung completes inspection and the credit is final.
