Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra promotion reported on May 25, 2024, advertised up to $970 in combined promotional value. It paired an eligible-device trade-in with a 512GB storage upgrade and Samsung Credit. It was a limited-time Samsung Discover Week deal, not a currently verifiable offer as of August 2026.
What the $970 promotion included
Droid Life reported that Samsung combined three different benefits. They did not all reduce the phone’s checkout price in the same way.
| Component | Advertised value | What the buyer received |
|---|---|---|
| Trade-in promotion | Up to $750 | Instant credit toward the phone for an eligible trade-in device, subject to the promotion’s requirements. |
| Storage upgrade | $120 | The 512GB Galaxy S24 Ultra for the listed price of the 256GB version. |
| Samsung Credit | $100 | Credit to use on eligible Samsung products, not cash. |
| Total advertised value | $970 | A combined maximum, not a universal $970 price cut. |
Droid Life’s May 25, 2024 report described the promotion and its components. The $120 was the stated value of getting more storage; it was not a separate rebate paid to the buyer.
Which phones were reported to qualify for the top trade-in value?
For that promotion, the Galaxy S23 Ultra was reported at up to $750 in instant trade-in credit. Other examples in the report had lower maximums:

- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
- Galaxy S23 Ultra: up to $750.
- Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra: up to $600.
- Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy S21 Ultra: among the devices listed at up to $550.
These were reported amounts for the May 2024 offer, not current Samsung valuations. Samsung says eligible devices and trade-in amounts can change; check the current Samsung trade-in page for a live estimate and applicable terms. The value shown may depend on the submitted device meeting the program’s eligibility and condition requirements.
How the advertised value changes by trade-in
The arithmetic makes clear why the headline used “up to.” The examples below use the reported $120 storage value and $100 Samsung Credit alongside different trade-in amounts. They illustrate the advertised-value calculation; they are not confirmation that every buyer could combine those amounts or satisfy all terms.

- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
| Illustrative case | Calculation | Combined advertised value |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum reported trade-in | $750 trade-in + $120 storage value + $100 credit | $970 |
| Lower reported trade-in | $600 trade-in + $120 storage value + $100 credit | $820 |
| No qualifying trade-in | No trade-in value; storage upgrade and credit only if eligible under the offer’s terms | Not the $970 maximum |
The $750 trade-in portion required giving Samsung an eligible phone. The storage component was value in a higher-capacity configuration, and the credit could only be spent on qualifying Samsung products. For that reason, “up to $970 in combined promotional value” is more accurate than “$970 off.”
What the Samsung Credit could buy
The 2024 report said the $100 credit could go toward eligible products such as Galaxy Buds2 Pro, TVs, vacuums, Galaxy Watches and other Samsung products. It cited the Galaxy Buds2 Pro at $99.99 as a historical example under that offer; that is not a current price. The credit’s practical value depended on whether the buyer wanted an eligible product and could use the credit under its terms.

Samsung distinguishes its instant credit from carrier bill credits: Samsung trade-in credit is applied toward qualifying Samsung purchases, while carrier promotions may distribute value through account credits over time. Details and restrictions depend on the offer. See Samsung’s trade-in information.
How the storage upgrade worked
Reportedly, buyers selected the 512GB Galaxy S24 Ultra and paid the price associated with the 256GB model during checkout. It was a configuration choice at purchase, not a post-purchase cash rebate. Samsung’s FAQ for a separate January 2024 S24 storage promotion describes that general upgrade structure, but its terms do not establish the dates or conditions of the May Discover Week offer.

Was it worth pursuing?
The promotion was most compelling for someone whose S23 Ultra received the full reported trade-in amount, who wanted 512GB storage, and who would use the Samsung Credit on something they already planned to buy. Its value was weaker for buyers with a lower trade-in offer, no qualifying device, no need for the larger storage tier, or no intended use for Samsung products.
Before accepting a trade-in, compare Samsung’s checkout estimate with what you could reasonably net by selling the old phone privately. A private sale may bring more, but involves finding a buyer and handling the sale; Samsung’s offer provided credit toward a Samsung purchase instead. Also check the offer’s terms for condition rules, expiry dates, eligible products and whether discounts can be combined. Samsung’s Galaxy S24 buying guide says trade-in offers generally cannot be combined with other Samsung, carrier or retailer promotions unless the terms allow it.

Is the $970 deal available now?
No current availability is established for the May 2024 promotion. Droid Life described it as a limited-time offer tied to the final weekend of Samsung Discover Week. Treat it as historical coverage, not a live deal. Samsung’s present trade-in values and promotions can change; verify the offer shown at checkout and its terms on Samsung’s trade-in page before making a purchase.
