It is the maximum combined trade-in credit for an eligible device. With the full credit, the 256GB unlocked Fold7 can reach approximately $999.99 before tax. Because Samsung’s newer Galaxy Z Fold8 generation launched before this article’s August 2026 offer window, the Fold7 is now a value or clearance purchase—not the newest model.
What Samsung’s “$1,000 off” actually means
Samsung applies an anticipated trade-in credit at checkout when you buy through its U.S. store. The credit can include the estimated value of your old device plus a promotional bonus. It is not free money, and it is not guaranteed for every phone.
The live offer, eligible models, condition rules, account status, storage selection and inventory determine the final amount. Check the exact device in Samsung’s trade-in estimator rather than relying on the headline.

Who can receive the full credit?
Samsung’s trade-in program accepts selected phones and other electronics, but the list and values change. The estimator evaluates:
- Exact model and promotional eligibility
- Whether the device powers on
- Screen, hinge, touch and body condition
- Lock, blacklist and account status
- The promotion active when you place the order
A recent Fold may qualify for a much higher credit than an older or damaged phone. Do not assume any particular model receives $1,000 until Samsung confirms it in your cart.

What happens after you trade in?
Samsung’s referenced Fold7 offer requires the old device to be shipped within 15 days after you receive the replacement. Samsung inspects it and can charge back some or all of the anticipated credit if it arrives late or fails the eligibility requirements. Foldables deserve extra caution: inner-display defects, dead pixels, hinge damage and touch problems can be missed during a quick inspection. The terms are stated on Samsung’s Fold7 offers page.
Protect yourself before shipping
- Save a screenshot of Samsung’s quoted value.
- Wait until the new phone works and your data is transferred.
- Back up the old phone, remove Google, Apple and Samsung accounts, disable activation locks, then factory-reset it.
- Photograph the device, IMEI, packaging and condition.
- Use Samsung’s packing instructions and keep the receipt, tracking number and inspection records.
Is there a discount without a trade-in?
Yes, but the amount has varied. Samsung pages reviewed showed no-trade-in offers of up to $200 or $350; third-party coverage reported temporary discounts as high as $400 at particular times. Check the current amount on Samsung’s featured-offers page and in the cart. A landing-page banner, signed-in offer, Shop App coupon, storage tier and carrier configuration can all differ, and search results may show expired promotions.

AT&T’s Fold7 listing describes up to $1,000 in credits over 36 months, not an immediate reduction of $1,000 from the phone price. Credits can stop if you leave, upgrade or otherwise break the installment terms. Compare the required plan, activation or upgrade fees and the cost of staying for all 36 months. Should you sell your old phone instead?
Compare Samsung’s total credit with a realistic private-sale price, not an optimistic listing. Your effective cost is:
Fold7 price − Samsung credit + tax and fees + required plan or accessories − the old phone’s realistic alternative-sale value.

Trade in when convenience, an immediate checkout credit or a promotional bonus outweighs the extra money a private sale might bring. Sell privately when the Samsung quote is materially below the value of a pristine, in-demand device and you can handle the transaction risk.
Is the Fold7 still worth buying after Fold8?
Buy the Fold7 when
- Samsung confirms the full or near-full credit for your device.
- Your unlocked, post-trade-in price is comfortably below comparable Fold8 pricing.
- You want to avoid a carrier commitment.
- You are satisfied with Fold7 hardware and do not need the newest processor, cameras, durability changes or support window.
Wait or choose Fold8 when
- The Fold7 discount is only a few hundred dollars.
- You can obtain a substantial Fold8 carrier subsidy and already want that carrier.
- Long-term resale value or the longest support period matters.
- You are upgrading from a Fold6 or Fold7 that still has strong value.
In August 2026, carrier launch promotions for Fold8 were active, making the older phone harder to justify at near-full price. A “free” Fold8 generally means monthly bill credits, so compare the complete plan commitment rather than the advertised monthly payment. Before you click Buy
- Confirm the exact trade-in model and condition in Samsung’s live estimator.
- Check whether the credit is instant, promotional, or both.
- Verify storage, color and stock; configurations can sell out independently.
- Calculate tax, financing, activation, accessories, insurance and plan costs.
- Compare the old phone’s realistic private-sale value.
- Read the 15-day shipping and chargeback terms.
- Compare the same total-cost period with Fold8 offers.
Samsung’s Fold7 promotion is compelling when the cart actually confirms a large credit and the unlocked phone is meaningfully cheaper than Fold8. Without that credit, or when a carrier’s total plan cost dominates the calculation, the “$1,000 off” headline is not enough reason to buy last generation.
