The Galaxy S24+ really was advertised as low as $249.99—but that was not its regular price. The figure was the effective price after a qualifying trade-in earned the maximum $750 instant discount off the $999.99 U.S. launch price. Samsung’s preorder promotion ran January 17–30, 2024, and also offered 512GB storage for the 256GB model’s price. That offer has ended; it is not a verified current price.
What the $249.99 price included
The arithmetic behind the headline was $999.99 launch price minus a maximum $750 trade-in discount, leaving $249.99 for the phone before applicable taxes and extras. The $750 was an instant Samsung.com discount at checkout, not a carrier bill credit spread across an installment plan. Buyers had to surrender an eligible device, so the offer was not available to every shopper and the trade-in had economic value of its own.
| Deal element | What applied in the 2024 promotion |
|---|---|
| U.S. S24+ launch price | $999.99 |
| Maximum cited trade-in discount | Up to $750 |
| Lowest advertised effective price | As low as $249.99 before applicable taxes and extras |
| Storage benefit | 512GB model for the 256GB model’s price during preorder |
| Preorder window | January 17–30, 2024; general availability began January 31, 2024 |
| Additional Samsung credit | Droid Life reported a $75 Samsung credit for the S24+ preorder; it was promotional value for Samsung products, not a reduction in the phone’s purchase price |
Samsung’s launch announcement confirms the $999.99 starting price, preorder dates, storage promotion, and January 31 general availability: Samsung’s U.S. Galaxy S24 launch announcement. The $249.99 effective price, instant discount, and $75 credit were reported by Droid Life’s January 17 deal coverage and its January 29 preorder follow-up.
Which trade-ins could reach the maximum?
The contemporaneous deal report named the Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold5 as examples eligible for the maximum $750 credit. It also reported these lower promotion-specific tiers:

Why the S24+ made sense for some buyers
The S24+ occupied the middle ground between Samsung’s smaller S24 and the feature-heavy S24 Ultra. In the U.S. launch configuration, it paired a 6.7-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate, 12GB of RAM, and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor. Its battery was rated at 4,900mAh typical capacity and 4,755mAh minimum rated capacity. Samsung offered 256GB and 512GB configurations; the preorder promotion made the 512GB version especially compelling for buyers who wanted more room for photos, apps, and offline media.

(No U.S. manufacturer warranty; Seller Return policy applies.)
The camera system comprised a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP 3x telephoto camera. Samsung announced seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for the S24 series at launch. These launch specifications and support commitments are detailed in Samsung’s announcement.
- Compared with the base S24: The S24+ offered a larger, sharper display, more RAM, a larger battery, and more storage capacity.
- Compared with the Ultra: The S24+ retained a large display and flagship processor family, but did not include a built-in S Pen or the Ultra’s more advanced camera and long-range zoom hardware. It also used an aluminum frame rather than titanium.
For a buyer who wanted a large, high-resolution screen and flagship performance without paying Ultra pricing, the Plus model was a plausible value choice. The $249.99 figure looked particularly strong when paired with the 512GB storage upgrade—but only if the trade-in was already a phone the owner was ready to give up.

How Samsung’s offer differed from a carrier “free phone”
A headline price is not the whole cost. Samsung’s promotion applied an instant trade-in discount through its preorder route. A carrier offer could show a lower net device price, but the subsidy might depend on a specific plan, financing agreement, and staying with the carrier long enough to receive every credit.
| Purchase route | Main benefit | Cost or commitment to check |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung.com preorder | Instant trade-in discount and preorder storage upgrade; an unlocked-phone route | A valuable eligible trade-in was needed for the lowest price; taxes and extras could add to the outlay |
| Carrier promotion | Could make the phone free or nearly free after credits | Qualifying plan, installment agreement, credit schedule, and consequences of canceling service |
| Full-price purchase | No trade-in or qualifying-plan restriction | Much higher upfront device cost |
| Used or refurbished purchase | Could cost less after launch | Condition, warranty, battery health, seller reliability, and carrier-lock status |
AT&T’s 2024 launch offer advertised up to $1,000 off the S24+ through monthly bill credits with an eligible trade-in and qualifying unlimited plan. AT&T said credits could stop if service was canceled, leaving the remaining device balance due under the installment terms. That is different from an instant checkout discount; see AT&T’s launch promotion details. Those are historical terms, not confirmation of a current carrier deal.

- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
To compare offers fairly, calculate the total device payments and required plan cost over the full term, then account for any fees and the value of the phone surrendered. A carrier’s “on us” wording should not be compared with Samsung’s upfront net price without including those commitments.

It favored buyers who
- Already owned a high-value eligible phone such as an S23 Ultra or Z Fold5 and wanted to trade it in.
- Preferred an unlocked purchase route over a multi-year carrier-credit arrangement.
- Wanted a larger, higher-resolution screen and 512GB storage, but did not need an S Pen or the Ultra’s camera capabilities.
- Planned to keep the S24+ for several years and could make use of Samsung’s announced long support period.
It was less attractive if
- You would buy an expensive phone solely to trade it in for the promotion.
- Your existing phone could fetch more through a private sale than the promotional credit.
- You were already changing carriers and a carrier subsidy offered better total value after required plan costs.
- You needed the Ultra’s stylus, higher-resolution photography, or stronger long-range zoom.
- You wanted the newest generation rather than a 2024 flagship.
The $249.99 headline was the cash price after the maximum credit, not the full economic cost of the upgrade. If the surrendered phone could otherwise have been sold for close to $750, its opportunity cost belongs in the comparison. The better question was whether the new S24+ was worth the phone you traded, any tax and accessory costs, and the remaining cash—not whether $249.99 looked small by itself.

Trade-in, return, and checkout details to watch
A trade-in deal can lose value if the submitted device does not match the declared model or condition, or if shipment and inspection requirements are missed. The exact 2024 inspection deadlines and all condition rules are not established in the deal summary, so buyers needed to read Samsung’s original checkout terms rather than assume a named model automatically earned the top tier.
- Confirm the device model and condition against the promotion’s trade-in terms before placing the order.
- Back up the old phone, remove accounts, disable device-tracking locks, and factory-reset it before sending it away.
- Photograph the device’s condition and keep the shipment receipt and tracking number.
- Check the required shipment and inspection deadlines in the order terms.
- Understand what happens to the trade-in and storage promotions if the S24+ order is canceled or returned. Samsung’s launch terms said the promotional storage discount could be lost if the qualifying purchase was returned or canceled.
The $249.99 figure should be treated as the effective device price before applicable taxes and extras; the deal report does not establish a universal tax-inclusive total. Check whether a wall charger or other accessories are included before budgeting, rather than assuming they are part of the headline price.
Is the $249 Galaxy S24+ deal available now?
Status checked August 18, 2026: The $249.99 figure traces to Samsung’s January 17–30, 2024 preorder campaign. The available offer evidence establishes a historical promotion, not a live price. Do not treat the S24+ as available for $249.99 today without a current retailer listing and checkout terms that confirm the price.
If considering an S24+ now, compare a verified current listing with a newer Plus-model option and check stock, condition, warranty, and carrier lock before buying. The launch price and preorder terms above do not establish present-day pricing or availability.
