At $387.90, a renewed Galaxy S23 could be good value—but only if the specific offer is the standard model, has the storage and carrier status you need, and includes Amazon Renewed’s return protection. The price, seller, condition, and configuration in the headline could not be independently verified, so treat $387.90 as a reported price snapshot, not a guaranteed current offer. A used battery and a shorter remaining software-support window are the main costs behind the discount.
What the $387.90 offer does—and does not—tell you
The price alone is not enough to establish a bargain. Amazon offers can vary by seller, storage, condition, color, carrier compatibility, shipping, and stock. The exact listing and its current price were not independently verified; check the live offer before deciding.
Before checkout, establish whether the total is before tax, whether shipping is included, and whether the price depends on a coupon or temporary promotion. Also check whether the seller is Amazon or a third party, and whether Amazon fulfills the order. Those are distinct details: fulfillment by Amazon does not by itself establish who refurbished or supplied the phone.
- Promising: the standard Galaxy S23, clearly identified storage, factory-unlocked or confirmed carrier-compatible, a seller and condition you are comfortable with, and the Amazon Renewed Guarantee attached to the exact offer.
- Less compelling: an unclear model or seller, carrier restrictions, a condition grade that does not match your expectations, or a 128GB unit priced close to a newer phone or a manufacturer-certified S23.
- Not a confirmed deal: a headline price without a live listing that shows the configuration, seller, condition, and return terms.
Amazon says Renewed products are professionally inspected and tested, but that does not mean every phone will look or perform like a new one. Amazon’s published Renewed information describes a 90-day period after receipt to seek a replacement or refund if unsatisfied. Confirm that the exact offer displays the Amazon Renewed Guarantee, read the current terms, and save the listing details when you order. Amazon’s seller-forum discussion also references the 90-day return or replacement window.

- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
Make sure it is the Galaxy S23 you intend to buy
The compact Galaxy S23 is not interchangeable with the S23 FE, S23+, or S23 Ultra. Check the full product name and model number, not just the listing’s headline or product photo. U.S. standard S23 model numbers begin with SM-S911; the suffix can vary by carrier or regional version.
- Galaxy S23: the compact 6.1-inch model discussed here.
- Galaxy S23+: a larger phone with a bigger battery; not the same compact option.
- Galaxy S23 Ultra: a larger device with higher-end camera hardware and an S Pen.
- Galaxy S23 FE: a different model with different processor, camera, display, and battery characteristics.
Check whether the listing specifies 128GB or 256GB. The U.S. S23 has 8GB of RAM and comes in those two storage configurations. The 128GB version can be tight for large games, offline media, or frequent 4K video recording; the phone has no microSD card slot, so storage cannot be expanded that way.

- Fully Unlocked Version. Compatible with Most GSM and CDMA Carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, AT&T, MetroPCS, etc. Will Also work with CDMA Carriers Such as Verizon, Sprint.
Do not infer that “unlocked” means the phone will work perfectly with every U.S. carrier or MVNO. Confirm compatibility for your specific carrier, including the model variant, supported bands, eSIM needs, and any carrier activation or blacklist restrictions. If you rely on eSIM, have the seller confirm that the exact U.S. variant supports the setup you need.
What the S23 still offers for the money
The standard S23 remains a compact flagship rather than an entry-level phone. Samsung’s U.S. specification sheet lists a 6.1-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive 48–120Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, and a 168g body.

- Display and size: a sharp, high-refresh OLED screen in a relatively light, compact handset.
- Performance: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor remains suited to demanding apps, multitasking, and games.
- Three useful rear cameras: 50MP main with optical image stabilization, 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP telephoto with stabilization. Samsung lists 3x optical zoom and up to 30x Space Zoom; the latter is digital zoom, not equivalent to optical detail.
- Charging and features: 25W wired charging, wireless charging, Wireless PowerShare, Samsung DeX, and Knox security features.
- Materials and protection: Armor Aluminum, Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and an IP68 rating under Samsung’s stated laboratory conditions.
Samsung lists a 3,900mAh typical-capacity battery. These are original specifications, not a guarantee of the condition or battery endurance of a particular renewed handset.
What you give up by buying this phone in 2026
Battery condition is unknown
A renewed S23 has already been used, and the age and treatment of its battery may be unclear. Ordinary Amazon Renewed listings should not be assumed to include a new battery. Battery endurance also depends on signal strength, settings, apps, and setup activity, so a single percentage or brief test cannot establish the whole story.

- It offers a 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 48-120 Hz refresh rate plus up to ~ 1750 nits peak brightness and “Vision Booster,” meaning the screen stays bright and viewable even in strong sunlight — great if you use your phone outdoors a lot.
Some of the support period has already passed
The S23 launched in February 2023 with Android 13 and One UI 5.1. Samsung’s original commitment was four generations of Android/One UI upgrades and five years of security updates, as described in its Galaxy S23 launch announcement and its software-upgrade policy announcement. Those commitments run from the device’s launch/support policy, not from the date a second owner buys it. A 2026 buyer therefore gets a shorter remaining support window than someone who bought the phone new at launch. The exact final update date is not established here.
Compact size comes with trade-offs
The 3,900mAh battery is modest by current standards, and wired charging tops out at 25W. If you need long endurance, fast charging, or substantial onboard storage, compare your options before accepting the discount.

Refurbishment can change the condition you receive
Cosmetic wear or replacement parts may be present. Do not treat the original IP68 rating as a guarantee that a previously used, repaired, or refurbished phone remains water-resistant: damage or repair can compromise seals, and a shopper cannot establish seal integrity just by looking at the phone.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Amazon Renewed versus Samsung Certified Re-Newed
These are different refurbishment programs, with different assurances. Amazon Renewed may be cheaper and offer multiple sellers, conditions, and configurations, but the exact offer matters. Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed program says its phones use genuine Samsung parts, include a certified new battery, receive IMEI verification, inspection and cleaning by Samsung technicians, and come with a one-year warranty.
| What matters | Amazon Renewed | Samsung Certified Re-Newed |
|---|---|---|
| Refurbishment and parts | Amazon describes Renewed products as professionally inspected and tested; exact refurbisher and replacement parts can vary by offer. | Samsung says it uses genuine Samsung parts and has Samsung technicians inspect and clean devices. |
| Battery assurance | Do not assume a new battery; verify the exact offer, and expect battery condition may be unclear. | Samsung says the program includes a certified new battery. |
| Return or warranty protection | Amazon-published Renewed information describes a 90-day return/replacement or refund period; confirm it applies to the exact offer. | Samsung says Certified Re-Newed phones include a one-year warranty. |
| Price and availability | Can be lower-priced, but price, stock, seller, and condition vary by listing. | Current S23 price and stock are not stated here; check Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed store. |
Paying more for Samsung’s program may be worthwhile if battery assurance, manufacturer inspection, and warranty matter more than the lowest upfront price. Compare the live total for each offer rather than assuming either program is always cheaper or available.
Check the Amazon listing before paying
- Verify the model: the name should say Galaxy S23, not FE, S23+, or Ultra. Confirm the model number, including the SM-S911 family for U.S. standard S23 listings.
- Check storage: identify 128GB or 256GB and decide whether the smaller option fits your use.
- Confirm network status: look for an explicit unlocked designation, then check the exact model against your carrier or MVNO. Do not rely on “unlocked” alone.
- Read the condition and seller details: note the condition grade, seller identity and feedback, fulfillment method, and recent reviews for the exact listing or ASIN. Look for reports about battery life, screen damage, charging, incorrect models, and unlock problems.
- Check the price and terms: account for tax, shipping, coupons, and delivery date. Confirm the Amazon Renewed Guarantee is shown for the offer and note the return deadline.
- Confirm what is included: check the accessory list. “Compatible” accessories are not necessarily original Samsung accessories.
- Save evidence: keep screenshots or order records showing the listing, price, seller, condition, model number, storage, and return terms.
Inspect the phone as soon as it arrives
Use the return window to find problems while you can still act. Photograph the package and device condition before setup, and keep the packaging until you finish testing.

- Open Settings → About phone and confirm the model. Check the storage capacity in the phone’s settings and compare the IMEI with the box or order documentation where applicable.
- Insert your SIM or activate eSIM. Test calls, SMS, mobile data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and 5G where available. A successful Wi-Fi connection does not prove carrier compatibility.
- Test USB-C charging and wireless charging. Inspect the screen for dead pixels, burn-in, discoloration, uneven brightness, and touch dead zones.
- Try every camera, autofocus, flash, microphone, speaker, vibration, fingerprint reader, and face unlock. Make a test video and check focus and recorded audio.
- Look for unusual charging, moisture, or battery warnings; check for damaged camera glass, loose buttons, gaps, or a screen that sits unevenly.
During the return period
- Observe battery endurance through normal use, allowing for heavy setup activity and poor signal to affect early results. No single menu or third-party app is guaranteed to provide a definitive battery-health percentage on every U.S. S23.
- Check for abnormal heat while charging and under load. Install available system and security updates.
- Confirm that the phone is not carrier-locked or subject to an activation or financing restriction. If it fails inspection, follow the seller or Amazon return process before the stated deadline; factory-reset the phone before sending it back.
Who should buy it—and who should pass
Consider buying at $387.90 if
- You want a compact flagship and accept that the phone is used and more than three years old.
- The listing clearly identifies the standard S23, storage, condition, seller, and network status, and the phone is compatible with your carrier.
- The exact offer includes Amazon Renewed return protection, and you are prepared to test the phone promptly.
- The price still compares favorably with the live price of a newer phone or Samsung Certified Re-Newed S23 after tax and shipping.
Wait, compare, or skip if
- The listing does not clearly establish model, storage, carrier status, or return protection—or it is merely described as used rather than covered by Amazon Renewed.
- You need a fresh battery, predictable manufacturer-backed refurbishment, exceptional battery life, more than 128GB, or the longest possible remaining software support.
- A Samsung Certified Re-Newed S23 or a newer Galaxy or Pixel with longer support is close enough in price that its added assurance or useful life matters more to you.
- You are considering the S23+ or Ultra for its larger screen, battery, zoom camera, or S Pen. Those models serve different needs and are not direct substitutes for a compact S23.
Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed store is the official place to check current Samsung-certified inventory. Current prices and stock for the S23 and newer alternatives are not established here, so make that comparison using live offers rather than assumed prices.
