Salesforce Essentials brings core sales and service tools—customer records, leads, cases, reports and dashboards—into one CRM, making its stripped-back scope a credible fit for some small teams. But it is no longer a product to choose for a new long-term deployment: Salesforce ended renewals on August 18, 2026, and technical support on September 18, 2026. Existing customers have a documented path to Pro Suite, with pricing protection subject to Salesforce’s conditions.
What does Salesforce Essentials include?
Salesforce describes Essentials as a way to see customer information in one place. Its core records include Accounts, Leads and Cases, bringing basic sales and service work together in a hosted system. Salesforce positions the edition for small businesses starting with CRM and provides a setup assistant and administration tools for customising a deployment as it grows.
The documented feature set includes:
- Sales: sales-pipeline setup, lead management, list views and customer records.
- Service: case management, phone integration, routing, chat and messaging, and self-service features.
- Productivity and administration: data import, custom fields, utility-bar tools and macros.
- Visibility: reports and dashboards.
- Case intake: automatic conversion of incoming email and social posts into cases.
These features make the product’s narrow focus a potential strength: a small team that has outgrown spreadsheets can manage foundational sales and support tasks without starting with the full configuration surface of enterprise Salesforce. The published feature list establishes what the edition offers, not how fast or easy it is in practice; no independent usability or performance testing is available here. See Salesforce’s Essentials overview and its edition page.
Is Salesforce Essentials still available?
No—not as an edition customers can keep renewing and receiving technical support for. Salesforce announced Essentials’ retirement on February 11, 2026. The last date to renew a subscription was August 18, 2026; technical support, including critical security patches and related support, ended September 18, 2026. Those dates have passed. Salesforce’s retirement notice sets out the timeline.

That lifecycle makes Essentials a poor choice for a new deployment that needs ongoing vendor support. Existing customers should plan around the retirement rather than assume their current setup will continue to receive updates or support.
What happens to Salesforce Essentials after retirement?
Salesforce identifies Pro Suite as the upgrade route for active Essentials customers. It says customers can keep their current pricing for as long as they continue their subscription; its FAQ qualifies that protection for existing Essentials pricing, including uplifts or discounts, as applying to active subscriptions for up to 10 users. Confirm eligibility and terms directly with Salesforce before making a migration decision.

Salesforce’s migration materials describe Pro Suite additions including Agentforce, Slack integration, enhanced customisations, Quick Settings, forecasting and additional automation. These are potential gains, but they also mean a move is not simply a promise that the existing setup will behave identically. Review the target edition’s capabilities and your configuration with Salesforce. See the Essentials-to-Pro-Suite migration information and migration FAQ.
Should you move from Essentials to Pro Suite?
For an active customer who needs to continue using Salesforce with vendor support, Pro Suite is the documented continuation path. Whether it is the right fit depends on the work your team actually does and the terms Salesforce offers your subscription.

- Consider the move if you rely on Salesforce for active sales or support work and need a supported path beyond Essentials’ retirement.
- Assess the additional scope if forecasting, automation, integrations or customisations are important; verify the specific Pro Suite functions and migration requirements that apply to your account.
- Compare alternatives if your team uses only a small part of Essentials or wants to leave Salesforce. Compare sales and service coverage, reporting, automation, storage allocations, user count and pricing, migration effort, support lifecycle, integrations and training.
Do not treat the pricing-protection statement as a blanket quote: its conditions include continuing the subscription, and Salesforce’s FAQ describes the existing-pricing arrangement for active subscriptions of up to 10 users. Ask Salesforce to confirm the terms for your account before accepting an upgrade.
How much data can Salesforce Essentials store?
There is no single storage figure established here that covers all Essentials data. Salesforce’s allocation table lists edition-specific limits, including a maximum document upload size of 5 MB and a total of up to 900 fields when AppExchange custom fields are installed. The 900-field figure is conditional, and these are examples of allocations—not a complete storage specification. Check the current Salesforce Essentials allocation table for the limit relevant to your data type and configuration before relying on it.

Is Salesforce Essentials good for a small business?
Its documented scope can suit a small sales or service team that needs customer records, a lead pipeline, case handling, reporting and straightforward administrative tools in one place. Salesforce itself describes it as designed for small businesses getting started with CRM. That fit is now outweighed for many prospective buyers by the retirement timeline: a product with no renewals or technical support is not a sound default for a new long-term CRM choice. For current customers, evaluate the Pro Suite migration terms or compare supported alternatives against the workflows and data your team needs.
