Re:

Rogers iPhone 16 for $4.50 a Month: What the Spring Sale Really Included

The $4.50 Rogers iPhone 16 price was a conditional, reported promotion—not the full bill or ownership cost. Here’s what the trade-in, plan, return and deferred-payment terms mean.

Short answer: Rogers’ $4.50-per-month iPhone 16 price was a real, reported seasonal promotion for the 128GB model, but it was not the total cost of service or necessarily the cost of owning the phone. The reported offer required 24-month financing, a qualifying Rogers plan, an eligible in-store trade-in and returning the phone after two years. Rogers’ public promotions page checked on August 18, 2026, no longer displayed that offer, so its current availability is unconfirmed.

What the reported Rogers offer included

The April 2, 2025 deal listing described the following arrangement:

Item Reported condition
Phone iPhone 16, 128GB
Advertised device payment $4.50 per month
Financing term 24 months
Plan Select Rogers plans
Trade-in Eligible device traded in at a Rogers store
End of term Phone returned within two years
Ownership Required checking the deferred Save & Return amount

The historical details were reported by iPhone in Canada. A May 2026 article repeated the $4.50 figure, but used qualifying language about plans, accounts, provinces and channels rather than reproducing a current Rogers offer page. See that coverage for its explanation.

Is the deal still available?

Current status checked August 18, 2026: Rogers’ public wireless promotions page showed newer back-to-school offers involving devices such as the iPhone Air and Pixel 10, along with tablet, watch and new-line promotions. It did not show the reported $4.50 iPhone 16 offer.

That means the safest description is “a previously reported seasonal Rogers promotion,” not “a current nationwide Rogers deal.” Account-specific offers, inventory, province, activation type and sales channel can differ. Only a live Rogers quote or written agreement can establish that the price is available to you.

What “$4.50 per month” actually paid for

The figure described the discounted device-payment line. It did not represent the complete Rogers bill. The advertised amount did not, by itself, include:

  • the required wireless plan;
  • sales taxes and any applicable setup or connection charges;
  • device protection, accessories, roaming or other add-ons;
  • the financial consequences of cancelling or transferring service;
  • the deferred amount payable if you kept the phone.

At face value, the device payments total $4.50 × 24 = $108 before tax. That arithmetic is not the purchase price of an iPhone 16. A Save & Return arrangement can make the monthly line small by deferring part of the device price until the end of the term.

How Rogers Save & Return changes the calculation

Rogers’ current Save & Return rules give you two basic end-of-term choices:

Return the phone

If the phone meets Rogers’ return standards and is returned through the required process, the deferred Save & Return amount is settled. Your 24-month device payments are then the device cost for the use-and-return arrangement, subject to taxes, plan charges and other fees.

Keep the phone

If you keep it, Rogers bills the deferred amount. Rogers says eligible agreements may allow full payment, 12 monthly payments at 0% interest on the Rogers bill, or a Rogers Red Mastercard Equal Payment Plan. The $108 figure does not tell you what that deferred amount is; it must appear in your agreement or quote.

Do not describe this arrangement as a lease unless the specific contract uses that legal term. The practical distinction is simpler: returning settles the deferred amount, while keeping the device requires paying it.

Return-condition requirements

Rogers says a returned Save & Return phone must:

  • power on and reach the home screen;
  • hold a charge and operate normally;
  • allow a factory reset;
  • have no cracks, dents or bending;
  • include required components;
  • have the Apple Account, Find My iPhone and other security locks removed;
  • not be lost or stolen.

Before handing it back

  1. Back up your data.
  2. Sign out of your Apple Account and turn off Find My.
  3. Erase all content and settings.
  4. Remove the physical SIM or follow Rogers’ eSIM instructions.
  5. Photograph the phone and its condition.
  6. Keep the receipt, return-kit record or tracking number.

In-store, online and customer-care upgrades can use different return procedures; online and customer-care transactions may involve a return kit.

What happens if you cancel, transfer or change plans?

Under Rogers’ current Save & Return explanation, cancelling or transferring the mobile service linked to the financed device ends participation. The next bill can include both the deferred Save & Return amount and the remaining financing balance, and you lose the program’s normal option to return the phone.

A plan change can also make promotional credits ineligible. Before moving to a cheaper plan, switching carriers or upgrading early, request a written payoff calculation. Rogers says upgrades can occur from month 2 through month 24, but an early upgrade does not erase outstanding balances or return obligations.

Calculate the real two-year cost

Use this formula rather than comparing device lines alone:

24-month total = (qualifying plan × 24) + (device payments × 24) + taxes + setup or connection fees + add-ons − eligible credits + trade-in opportunity cost + end-of-term amount if the phone is kept.

For the reported rate, fill in the known part first:

Cost item Calculation
Qualifying plan $_____ × 24 = $_____
Advertised device payments $4.50 × 24 = $108
Taxes $_____
Setup or connection fee $_____
Optional add-ons $_____
Trade-in value surrendered $_____
Deferred amount if keeping the phone $_____

For illustration only, if a required plan were $90 per month, the plan would cost $2,160 over 24 months. Adding the reported $108 device payments produces $2,268 before tax, fees, add-ons, trade-in value and any keep-phone amount. The $90 plan is an example, not a verified price for the promotion.

Trade-in is part of the price

An eligible trade-in is not automatically free money. Compare Rogers’ credit with the phone’s private-sale value, Apple’s trade-in value and competing carrier offers. If the trade-in was required for the $4.50 price, surrendering a high-value phone may reduce or eliminate the apparent saving.

Rogers says trade-in value can be applied differently depending on whether the transaction is completed in-store, online or through Customer Care. Ask how the credit appears and whether it is paid immediately, spread across bills or contingent on maintaining the qualifying plan.

Which financing route fits?

Rogers Plus with Save & Return

Rogers’ Plus tier generally supplies stronger promotional credits and can produce the lowest visible device payment. In exchange, you accept a qualifying plan, a 24-month term, return-condition rules and a deferred amount if you keep the phone. It is most suitable for regular upgraders who can protect and return a device in good condition.

Rogers Entry financing

Rogers describes Entry financing as spreading the device’s full price, or a smaller discount, over 24 months and leaving you with the phone at the end. It generally provides less promotional credit than Plus but avoids a Save & Return obligation. See Rogers’ pricing-tier explanation.

Apple purchase plus a BYOD plan

Buying an unlocked phone from Apple Canada gives immediate ownership and makes changing carriers easier. Compare Apple’s live price with the total cost of a Rogers plan and with a lower-cost BYOD plan; Apple pricing and inventory can change.

Who should be cautious?

  • Potentially suitable: someone who already wants the qualifying Rogers plan, has a low-value trade-in, upgrades every two years and expects to return an undamaged phone.
  • Potentially poor value: someone attracted only by the $4.50 line, someone who wants to keep the phone for many years, someone with a valuable phone to sell privately, or anyone likely to cancel or change plans early.

Get these figures in writing before accepting

  1. Exact model and storage capacity.
  2. Undiscounted device price and every promotional credit.
  3. Monthly device payment before and after credits.
  4. Save & Return deferred amount and the amount due to keep the phone.
  5. Required plan price and eligibility period.
  6. Trade-in model, value and how the credit is applied.
  7. Taxes, setup or connection charges and optional add-ons.
  8. Early-cancellation, transfer and plan-change payoff.
  9. Return deadline, process and condition standards.

Rogers’ device-financing overview can help explain the structure, but your signed quote controls the transaction.

The Bottom Line

The Rogers $4.50 iPhone 16 price was a reported conditional promotion, not a $108 outright purchase. Treat it as unavailable unless Rogers confirms it for your account, and compare the full 24-month plan, trade-in, tax, return and keep-phone costs before signing.
