Rillet announced a $25 million Series A led by Sequoia Capital on May 28, 2025. The company was not pitching another expense or bookkeeping add-on: it was positioning an AI-native enterprise resource planning (ERP) system as a replacement for the general ledger and, in some cases, NetSuite or similar systems.
That distinction matters. Rillet’s platform connects banks and operating systems such as Salesforce, Stripe, Ramp, Brex and Rippling to a central ledger, then applies automated workflows to reconciliation, accruals, revenue recognition and reporting. The funding validates investor interest in that strategy, but it does not by itself establish accounting accuracy, audit readiness or suitability for every ERP migration.
What Rillet raised in May 2025
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Round | $25 million Series A |
| Announcement | May 28, 2025 |
| Lead investor | Sequoia Capital |
| Other participants | Existing investors First Round Capital, Creandum and Susa Ventures, plus named angel investors |
| Previously disclosed funding | $13.5 million seed and pre-seed financing |
| Stated use of proceeds | Product and AI development, go-to-market expansion, customer support and implementation capacity |
The financing details were reported by TechCrunch and included in Rillet’s funding announcement.
This is now a historical funding event, not Rillet’s latest round. In August 2025, Rillet announced a $70 million Series B co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and ICONIQ, with Sequoia participating. Rillet said that round brought total funding to more than $100 million in under a year; that total is a company claim.

Why replacing the general ledger is a much bigger bet than automating bookkeeping
The general ledger is the accounting system of record from which a company produces its balance sheet, income statement and other financial reports. Replacing it changes the controls and data flows behind nearly every finance process.
- Chart of accounts, dimensions and historical transactions must be mapped.
- Opening balances, accounts receivable and accounts payable need validation.
- Revenue-recognition schedules and deferred revenue must carry forward correctly.
- Bank, card and payment reconciliations need complete source data.
- Multi-entity consolidation, intercompany eliminations and foreign-currency treatment must be configured.
- Approval workflows, period locks, segregation of duties and audit trails must remain defensible.
- Payroll, CRM, billing, banking, tax and planning integrations must continue working through cutover.
Consequently, “AI automates accounting” should not be read as “an autonomous model takes responsibility for statutory reporting.” It describes automation around a ledger, with accountants still responsible for policy decisions, review, evidence and sign-off.
What Rillet says its AI-native ERP does
Rillet says it pulls data from banks and business applications, normalizes that information in a central accounting system and uses AI-assisted workflows for finance operations. Its public product descriptions cover the general ledger, close management, revenue recognition, multi-entity accounting, reporting and integrations.
Reconciliation and transaction processing
The platform is marketed for transaction matching, classification and bank reconciliation. Rillet’s accountant materials claim that more than 95% of transactions can be matched automatically; that percentage is a current marketing claim, not an independently verified benchmark. Users should establish how exceptions are identified, reviewed and corrected.
Accruals, prepaids and revenue recognition
Rillet describes workflows for accruals, prepaid-expense schedules and contract interpretation related to revenue recognition. These capabilities are particularly relevant to SaaS and usage-based companies, but a buyer still needs to test treatment under its own ASC 606 or IFRS 15 policies, including amendments, milestones, refunds and credits.

Close and reporting
The product supports close checklists, variance analysis, board and investor reporting, GAAP reporting and operating metrics. Rillet says recommendations are transparent, explainable and customizable before posting. Ask to see the source transaction, rationale, confidence or exception status and complete change history for every AI-assisted entry.
Integrations and natural-language access
Rillet connects to systems including Salesforce, Stripe, Ramp, Brex and Rippling. Its current Help Center advertises more than 12,000 integrations, another company claim whose practical value depends on the depth of each connector. Current product pages also describe natural-language queries against the ledger.
Why Sequoia invested
Sequoia partner Julien Bek told TechCrunch that roughly one-third of Rillet’s deals involved replacing NetSuite or similar systems. That replacement potential appears central to the investment thesis: a platform that becomes the system of record can capture more value than a tool that automates one narrow task.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe broader case is straightforward. ERP and financial-management software is a large, entrenched category, while AI can be more useful when it operates on integrated, structured accounting data instead of disconnected spreadsheets and point applications. Sequoia’s interest is evidence of that market thesis, not proof that Rillet has established product-market dominance.
Traction reported at the Series A
At the May 2025 announcement, Rillet said revenue had grown fivefold and that it had nearly 200 customers. Those figures were company-reported through coverage by TechCrunch; they were not presented as audited results. Rillet’s chief executive also said customers could reduce monthly or quarterly close work from weeks to hours, another claim that should be evaluated against a buyer’s own close metrics.

Who Rillet is trying to serve
Rillet targets medium-sized and fast-growing companies, especially those that have outgrown QuickBooks or Xero and need a more integrated finance system. Its positioning is particularly relevant to:
Recommended Free Tools
- High-growth startups moving from basic small-business accounting.
- Companies replacing NetSuite, Sage Intacct or another legacy ERP.
- Multi-entity and multi-currency organizations.
- SaaS and usage-based businesses with complex revenue recognition.
- Finance teams that need current GAAP and investor reporting without stitching together many point tools.
That does not make it a universal ERP. Businesses with extensive manufacturing, inventory, project accounting, supply-chain or highly specialized regulatory requirements may need capabilities outside Rillet’s stated focus.
Implementation: the four-to-six-week claim and what it leaves unanswered
Rillet’s CEO said implementation could take approximately four to six weeks, compared with migrations that historically took many months. Rillet’s current Help Center gives the same general timeframe, depending on business complexity and historical data volume, and describes a white-glove process involving CPAs and former auditors.
Rillet says customers can continue using their existing ledger until they are confident the data has moved. Before accepting a fast timeline, require written answers to these questions:

- Who owns data validation, user acceptance testing and final sign-off?
- What happens to unsupported integrations and historical backfills?
Can Rillet really replace NetSuite?
“Replace NetSuite” is a positioning statement, not a universal product verdict. The answer depends on accounting depth, industry requirements, customization and controls.

| Option | Where it may fit | Key trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Rillet | Scaling, multi-entity finance teams seeking an integrated, AI-assisted ledger and faster standardized implementation | Validate specialized modules, integration depth, controls, migration evidence and vendor dependence |
| Oracle NetSuite | Companies prioritizing broad ERP coverage, customization and a large implementation-partner ecosystem | Implementation and ongoing customization can be lengthy and costly |
| Sage Intacct | Mid-market teams wanting an established cloud financial-management platform | Some real-time operational reporting and AI workflows may require additional tools or manual work |
| SAP S/4HANA Cloud | Larger or operationally complex organizations needing broad enterprise capabilities | Greater implementation complexity than a focused mid-market finance platform |
| QuickBooks Online or Xero | Small organizations that do not need complex consolidation or advanced revenue recognition | Can become limiting as entities, controls and reporting requirements expand |
| Digits | Smaller businesses seeking AI accounting while remaining closer to QuickBooks or Xero | Not necessarily a like-for-like substitute for Rillet’s mid-market ERP-replacement focus |
| Campfire | High-growth companies comparing newer AI-native ERP products | Compare accounting depth and controls rather than AI branding alone |
The practical comparison is broader than interface quality. Test consolidation, revenue recognition, period locking, audit trails, permissions, source-system detail, error replay, historical reporting and data export.

Automation versus control
More automated postings can shorten the close while increasing the importance of approval thresholds, segregation of duties and immutable logs. Determine which actions are recommendations, which are automatic and which require explicit approval.
Data quality and integration failure
A continuously updated ledger is only as reliable as its source systems. Duplicate records, missing events, delayed feeds and incorrect dimensional mappings can create a ledger that looks current but is incomplete.
Accounting judgment
Contract interpretation, unusual transactions, acquisitions, foreign exchange and complex usage-based billing still require qualified accounting judgment. A plausible AI explanation is not evidence that the treatment is correct.

Migration and auditability
Balances without historical support can leave auditors unable to trace prior-period activity. Ask how source documents, reconciliation evidence and access logs are retained during and after cutover.
Vendor concentration
Combining the ledger, reporting, integrations and AI in one newer vendor can reduce tool sprawl but increases dependence on its uptime, roadmap, support capacity and financial stability.
Buyer checklist for a Rillet evaluation
- Define the accounting scope. Document entities, currencies, revenue policies, close controls, tax requirements and industry-specific needs.
- Map every integration. Confirm direction, transaction detail, dimensions, historical backfill, update frequency, error handling and replay.
- Test AI governance. Ask whether users can inspect sources, override recommendations, restrict posting permissions and export a complete activity log.
- Run a controlled migration exercise. Reconcile sample periods and opening balances against the incumbent ledger before committing to cutover.
- Plan parallel operation. Agree on rollback triggers, audit access to the old system and ownership of unresolved exceptions.
- Price the whole program. Request implementation, integration, consulting, support, renewal and exit costs; Rillet does not publish fixed dollar tiers and says pricing depends on features and business complexity.
- Obtain references. Seek customers with comparable entities, revenue models, close requirements and audit environments.
Rillet’s demo, plans and accountant solution pages are starting points, but a demonstration is not a substitute for control testing or a migration proposal.
The Bottom Line
Rillet’s $25 million Sequoia-led Series A was a bet that an AI-native, integrated ledger could replace parts of the legacy ERP stack for scaling companies. The opportunity is credible, but the decision should turn on accounting controls, migration evidence, integration depth and total cost—not on the funding headline or AI label.
