Redmi 13 5G First Sale in India: Launch Price, Offers and Is It Worth Buying?

The Redmi 13 5G first went on sale in India on July 12, 2024, at 12 noon, two days after its announcement. The often-quoted ₹13,999 was the launch price for the 6GB RAM + 128GB model; the 8GB + 128GB version was reported at ₹15,499. A qualifying introductory offer was reported to bring the base model to about ₹12,999, but the offer terms varied across coverage. For buyers considering it now, treat those as historical prices: an Xiaomi India listing observed in August 2026 showed the base model at ₹12,499, subject to stock and checkout pricing.

Its case is strongest for a large 120Hz screen, battery life, expandable storage and a headphone jack. The LCD panel, entry-level performance and HyperOS pre-installed apps are meaningful compromises, especially if you want gaming speed, AMOLED or a cleaner interface.

When did the Redmi 13 5G first go on sale in India?

Xiaomi announced the Redmi 13 5G in India on July 9, 2024. Its first sale began July 12 at noon through Xiaomi’s online channels, Amazon India and selected retail outlets. The launch coverage established these channels and timing, but does not confirm that every colour and RAM configuration was available at every outlet at the start of sale. Moneycontrol’s launch report and Business Standard’s first-sale report covered the launch and sale.

What were the launch prices and offers?

The ₹13,999 headline referred to the 6GB + 128GB variant, not every version of the phone. Launch reports placed the 8GB + 128GB model at ₹15,499. An introductory offer was reported as a ₹1,000 reduction on the base model, producing an effective price of about ₹12,999 for eligible buyers. Do not assume that this discount applied to both variants or every payment method: exact offer conditions and eligibility should be checked against the promotion in force at the time.

Is the large 120Hz display a good fit?

The 6.79-inch FHD+ panel gives video, reading and scrolling plenty of space, while its 120Hz refresh rate makes compatible interface animations and scrolling look smoother than on a standard 60Hz screen. The trade-off is display technology: this is an LCD, not an AMOLED. It will not deliver the same deep blacks and contrast, and independent reviews noted that brightness can be limiting outdoors. Its approximately 205g weight and large dimensions also make it a poor choice if you prefer a compact phone or frequent one-handed use. Xiaomi lists Gorilla Glass 3 protection and an IP53 rating; that rating is not a promise of waterproofing.

How fast is it, and what is HyperOS like?

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 AE is suited to calls, messaging, web browsing, navigation, streaming and routine multitasking. Independent reviews found performance adequate for everyday use but only moderate overall, with occasional lag; it is not the right reason to buy this phone if sustained gaming or demanding apps are priorities. The 5G label describes network capability, not gaming speed.

At launch the phone ran Android 14 with Xiaomi HyperOS. Xiaomi’s current specification page states a commitment of two major Android updates and four years of security updates. Separately, Xiaomi advertised a “36-month lag-free experience”; that is a marketing claim, not a guaranteed performance outcome. Reviews also noted pre-installed apps and software clutter. Some apps may be removable or disableable, but buyers should not expect every pre-installed app to be removable through ordinary settings. MySmartPrice’s review discusses software and performance observations.

Can the 108MP camera deliver good photos?

The 108MP main sensor is a notable spec at this price, and review coverage generally found it useful for daylight photography. A high megapixel count does not by itself mean better low-light images, optical zoom or high-resolution video. The 2MP macro camera is a basic secondary option; there is no ultrawide camera, and video recording tops out at 1080p at 30fps on Xiaomi’s listed specifications. Reviews reported weaker low-light and zoom results than the daytime still-photo performance. Consider it for casual daylight pictures, not for flexible camera coverage or advanced video work. Techlusive’s review covers camera limitations.

How do battery, charging and storage affect daily use?

The 5,030mAh typical-capacity battery is one of the phone’s practical strengths, and independent reviewers generally regarded battery life positively. Actual endurance depends on network signal, screen brightness, refresh rate and workload, so there is no universal runtime. Charging is rated up to 33W: useful, but not a class-leading speed compared with phones that support 44W or faster. Xiaomi lists an adapter in the box, so a charger is not an automatic extra purchase.

The 128GB storage can be expanded with a microSD card up to 1TB. The slot is hybrid, however: using a memory card may mean giving up the second physical SIM slot. The headphone jack and IR blaster are useful legacy features that are increasingly uncommon on phones in this category.

Who should buy it, and what should they compare?

  • Consider it if you want a large, smooth screen, substantial battery capacity, expandable storage, a headphone jack and ordinary 5G use, and the current price is attractive against newer phones.
  • Look elsewhere if AMOLED contrast, demanding-game performance, a cleaner Android interface, low-light photography, an ultrawide camera or video beyond 1080p/30fps matters more.
  • Check connectivity needs: NFC is not listed in Xiaomi India’s cited specifications, so do not buy on the assumption that contactless payments are supported. Confirm the exact model’s features if NFC is essential.

Choose alternatives by the feature you need rather than by an old launch-era price comparison. Comparative coverage positions the CMF Phone 1 as an option to examine for performance and a cleaner software approach; see Smartprix’s comparison, then verify current Indian price, charger policy, network compatibility and camera priorities. Motorola’s Moto G64 or G85 family may be worth checking for software experience or, depending on model, AMOLED; launch-era review coverage also names iQOO Z9x and Vivo T3x-class phones as alternatives. Their current value depends on present price, stock and support, so compare current specifications and update policies rather than relying on their 2024 positioning. TechPP’s review discusses alternatives.

Verdict: is the Redmi 13 5G worth buying now?

The Redmi 13 5G made sense as a budget 5G phone for buyers who valued screen size, battery, expandable storage and everyday use over speed or display quality. In 2026, it is a two-year-old model, so a historical ₹13,999 launch price is not a buying recommendation. Consider it only if its current variant-specific price compares favorably with newer phones; skip it if a similarly priced alternative gives you the AMOLED display, cleaner software or stronger performance you value more.
