The strategy is aimed at businesses that want to run AI and existing virtual-machine workloads across different infrastructure without committing to a single accelerator or cloud provider.
What Red Hat announced for APAC
In a report published September 6, 2025, EE Times described two related moves: the launch of Red Hat AI Inference Server and the availability of OpenShift Virtualization across AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud. The first addresses how organizations serve AI models; the second supports running virtual machines alongside other workloads on Red Hat’s application platform.
Red Hat’s argument is that businesses need options to place workloads where their data and operating requirements are. CEO Matt Hicks put it this way: “You want to run models in the branch outlet, in the factory, in the vehicle—wherever the data is.” He added that AI had “solidified and accelerated the need for hybrid as a design principle.”
What AI Inference Server does
AI Inference Server is Red Hat’s enterprise offering built on vLLM, an open-source project for serving AI models. According to the EE Times report, Red Hat offered it as a standalone product and as part of Red Hat OpenShift AI and Red Hat Enterprise Linux AI (RHEL AI).
#1 Best Overall
The enterprise layer is reported to run on Google TPUs as well as NVIDIA and AMD GPUs. That gives customers a choice among accelerator types and could make a later hardware change less disruptive to applications. It does not mean that every model, workload or configuration will perform identically on each accelerator.
Can OpenShift run VMs and AI across multiple clouds?
Red Hat’s announcement described OpenShift Virtualization as available across AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud. OpenShift is positioned to host containers, virtual machines and AI/ML workloads, offering a possible route for organizations to modernize in stages: keep some existing VM-based applications running while introducing containers and AI workloads on a shared platform.

That is a platform capability and deployment option, not a claim that one setup automatically moves workloads between clouds or removes the operational work of managing them. Businesses still need to assess application compatibility, cloud-specific services, data location, security controls and the skills required to operate each environment.
How Red Hat is working with APAC partners
Regional co-creation and RHEL validation
Red Hat said it had a dedicated APAC co-creation team working with regional developers, alongside a partner-validation program for RHEL 10. The reported aim is to let independent software vendors demonstrate compatibility with RHEL without waiting for a formal certification timeline. Validation can help customers evaluate software fit, but it should not be confused with formal certification.

Potential AWS Marketplace distribution
Red Hat was exploring cloud-based distribution in Australia and New Zealand through AWS’s Designated Seller of Record program. Under that arrangement, an authorized distribution partner can create and manage AWS Marketplace listings for software solutions. The report described this as an exploration, not confirmation that a particular Red Hat listing or sales arrangement had launched.
Partner work in the field
Red Hat chief revenue officer Andrew Brown offered an example of partner activity: “We are migrating workloads every weekend for a major automotive manufacturer—sometimes a plant a weekend.” This is an executive’s anecdote about one customer engagement, not a measure of APAC-wide migration volume or customer adoption.

What Red Hat’s 2026 APAC agenda adds
Red Hat’s Kuala Lumpur APAC event materials present OpenShift as an application platform for containers, VMs and AI/ML, and describe Red Hat AI as an open foundation for building, deploying, evaluating and governing AI applications across hybrid cloud. The agenda emphasizes open-weight models, token economics, evaluation, observability, security, compliance and AI governance. These are current positioning and event topics; an agenda does not establish that every demonstration or capability is generally available.
Two examples show how Red Hat is connecting AI operations with its existing platform approach:

- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
- A session showcased agentic AI powered by vLLM on OpenShift, with Tokenvisor helping investigate incidents.
- Another presented Ansible Automation Platform as a governed execution layer for automated remediation and self-healing workflows, with auditability and change control.
Together, the examples illustrate a proposed operating model: use AI to assist with investigation, then apply automation within controls that preserve oversight. They are examples from event programming, not independently verified performance results.

Using a common platform for VMs, containers and AI may give an organization more flexibility as it modernizes, while support for different accelerators and clouds may reduce dependence on one infrastructure choice. Those options can matter to technology budgets, but they do not by themselves establish lower costs: organizations would still need to account for software subscriptions, cloud consumption, accelerator capacity, migration and ongoing operations.
The sources cited for the announcement do not provide independent market-size, revenue, deployment-volume, latency, throughput or return-on-investment figures. There is therefore no evidence here to quantify savings or predict how widely the products will be adopted.
What the APAC awards figures do—and do not—show
Red Hat’s 2026 APAC Innovation Awards announcement, distributed through Publicnow, named 32 organizations from 13 APAC countries as winners. Those figures describe the awards program’s winners and geographic footprint; they are not a count of Red Hat customers, deployments or total regional adoption.
