Reports identify sales, management and retail-facing roles in several states, while Realme confirms organisational cuts but disputes that they are directly connected to the OPPO restructuring. There is no reported plan to discontinue Realme phones, retail sales or customer support.
What happened
On January 7, 2026, Realme announced that it would be integrated into OPPO as a sub-brand. The companies described the move as a way to pool resources, remove duplicated costs and share infrastructure while retaining Realme’s consumer identity. Reuters’ account is available through Investing.com.
Layoffs were first reported in India on February 5. Accounts from employees, retailers and company executives cited by 91mobiles point to reductions involving sales executives, area sales managers, management personnel and field or retail staff. Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana and Punjab were among the locations mentioned.
Some workers were reportedly told to remain for another one or two months; April 30, 2026, was cited as a possible final working day in some cases. That was not a universal deadline, and no reliable public source gives a total number of affected employees. Reports also say some employees were asked to resign, but that should not automatically be treated as a documented termination.

Is this an OPPO acquisition?
The public description is an integration into OPPO as a sub-brand, not a disclosed cash acquisition. Realme and OPPO are reported to sit within the broader BBK corporate ecosystem, but no purchase price or completed legal merger has been published. “Operational consolidation” or “return under the OPPO umbrella” is more precise than saying OPPO bought or shut down Realme.
Why OPPO is consolidating Realme
The stated rationale is to combine research and development, supply-chain, marketing, distribution and after-sales resources. A unified structure can reduce duplicate corporate and field-sales costs while allowing Realme to remain a separate label aimed at a different price and customer segment.
Some secondary coverage links the change to Realme’s weaker standalone position in China, but those performance explanations are not established company findings. They should be treated as attributed industry analysis rather than a confirmed reason for the Indian cuts.

What Realme has officially said about the layoffs
In statements reported by Business Today and India Today, Realme acknowledged ongoing organisational optimisation and described it as a normal industry adjustment. The company denied that the cuts were related to other brands and said its products, retail presence and service commitments were unaffected.
That is Realme’s stated position, not proof that the timing is unrelated to the OPPO move. The layoffs arrived weeks after the integration announcement, so a restructuring connection is widely inferred, but the company has not publicly accepted that causal link.
What “OPPO taking over” could mean in India
Reporting suggests OPPO’s existing teams and infrastructure may handle more of the combined workload. That could produce shared sales management, fewer duplicated field roles, closer coordination of launches and marketing, and greater reliance on OPPO’s dealer and service network. These are expected operational effects, not a published list of completed changes.

What Realme customers should expect
Phones, launches and prices
Realme’s product plans and pricing were reported as unchanged for the time being when the sub-brand arrangement was announced. No report indicates that current phones are being cancelled or that immediate launches are being withdrawn. “For now” matters: it is not a permanent price or product guarantee.
Warranty and software support
No universal change to warranty terms or software-update policy has been reported. Existing owners should use the warranty instructions and support channels attached to their model. Realme’s India support portal remains active at realme.com/in/support, with service-centre information at realme.com/in/support/services.

Service-centre access
OPPO said on February 3, 2026, that it had more than 570 service centres in over 500 Indian cities and planned 110 Service Center 3.0 Pro locations during 2026. Details are in its India newsroom announcement. That establishes OPPO’s network, but it does not prove that every OPPO location accepts every Realme repair. Customers should confirm eligibility through Realme’s official locator before visiting.
What changes for employees and retailers
Employees
- Sales, distribution, retail and management positions appear most exposed where OPPO teams can perform overlapping work.
- Public reporting does not establish whether each affected worker is employed by Realme, a distributor, a staffing agency or a retail partner.
- No reliable public figures describe notice periods, severance or the eventual nationwide headcount reduction.
Retailers
- Retailers may deal with fewer separate Realme and OPPO sales contacts.
- Targets, incentives, stock allocation and channel policies could be consolidated, but no documented change to dealer contracts or margins has been published.
- A shared structure may reduce duplication while also reducing Realme-specific field support.
What remains unknown
- The final number of Indian job losses and whether further departments will be merged.
- Whether Realme will retain separate product-planning, software and marketing teams.
- Whether OPPO and Realme will use identical retail targets or incentive schemes.
- Whether OPPO service locations will uniformly handle Realme warranty and repairs.
- Whether pricing, launches or channel strategy will change later in 2026.
The practical bottom line
Realme is not reported to be disappearing from India. The visible change is a reduction of its independent operating structure, with job cuts occurring as OPPO builds a unified organisation. For customers, the immediate position is continuity: Realme phones, retail availability and stated service commitments remain in place, while the extent of back-end and service integration is still developing.
