Razer Blade 16 (2025) Preorders: What $2,799 Bought and What the RTX 5090 Actually Cost

Razer’s 2025 Blade 16 preorder was real, but $2,799 was not the RTX 5090 price. Here are the configurations, upgrade restrictions, performance caveats and 2026 status.

The 2025 Razer Blade 16 preorder was real, but the headline combined the entry price with the lineup’s most expensive options. The launch-era $2,799 figure applied to a lower configuration, not to a system with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, 64GB of memory and 4TB of storage. That fully equipped version was reported at about $4,899.99. As of August 18, 2026, Razer presents the Intel-based 2026 Blade 16 as its current model, making the 2025 AMD machine a previous-generation product.

What Razer announced in January 2025

Razer unveiled the redesigned Blade 16 at CES 2025 and opened preorders for the first Blade 16 generation based on AMD Ryzen processors. Razer positioned it as a thin-and-light alternative to bulkier desktop-replacement gaming laptops.

The range extended to an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, up to 64GB of LPDDR5X memory and up to 4TB of SSD storage. Every model used a 16-inch, 2560×1600 QHD+ OLED panel with a 240Hz refresh rate and approximately 0.2ms response time. Razer’s announcement describes the HX 370 as a 12-core, 24-thread processor with an NPU rated for up to 50 TOPS. Launch materials cite RTX 5090 graphics power of up to 155W or 160W, depending on the announcement; later product information lists up to 165W for the 2025 version, so those figures are configuration- and source-specific rather than interchangeable.

What the $2,799 starting price meant

The $2,799 figure was a launch-era starting price reported for a lower-tier configuration. It did not buy the maximum CPU, GPU, memory and storage combination.

Configuration point Reported hardware Reported price and context
Launch entry configuration Ryzen AI 9 365, RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU, 32GB memory, 1TB SSD, 16-inch QHD+ 240Hz OLED $2,799 in early coverage; Tom’s Hardware later reported $2,999.99 for a comparable starting configuration
Later lower-priced model RTX 5060 and 16GB memory PCWorld reported a later $2,399 configuration
Tom’s Hardware review unit Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, 32GB LPDDR5X-8000, 2TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD $4,499.99
Reported maximum configuration Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, 64GB memory, 4TB SSD Approximately $4,899.99

The differences reflect pricing and configuration changes during the product’s lifecycle, not one universal price. Contemporary coverage from Tom’s Hardware, PCWorld and Windows Central should therefore be read with the configuration and publication date attached.

Configuration restrictions you need to know

Razer’s configurator did not allow every component to be selected independently. PCWorld described the process as restrictive because choosing one upgrade changed the combinations available elsewhere.

  • 32 GB 8000 MHZ LPDDR5X MEMORY — Operating at a 42% faster frequency than the previous generation, do more on this laptop than ever before, while getting greater efficiency and a thinner design for greater portability
  • The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 was tied to the RTX 5090 option in contemporary configurations; it was not freely paired with every GPU tier.
  • Selecting 64GB of memory could require selecting 4TB of storage, except in certain RTX 5080 configurations.
  • A 2TB storage selection could require at least the RTX 5080.
  • The 4TB choice was effectively associated with the highest-end system.
  • Memory is soldered LPDDR5X and cannot be upgraded later.

Consequently, a buyer seeking 64GB may pay for storage capacity they did not otherwise need. Check the regional configurator before ordering because available combinations can change.

Key specifications

Display

  • 16-inch OLED, 2560×1600 resolution and 240Hz refresh rate.
  • 16:10 aspect ratio and approximately 0.2ms response time.
  • Review specifications report 100% DCI-P3 coverage, HDR certification and G-SYNC/Advanced Optimus support.

Processor and graphics

  • Lower configurations used the Ryzen AI 9 365; the range topped out at the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.
  • The HX 370 has 12 cores and 24 threads, with an NPU rated up to 50 TOPS. In this thin implementation it is a relatively low-power 28W processor.
  • Reported GPUs included RTX 5060, RTX 5070/5070 Ti, RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 Laptop GPU options.
  • The RTX 5090 Laptop GPU has 24GB of GDDR7 VRAM. Its usable power limit varies by source and configuration, so the laptop badge does not describe desktop RTX 5090 performance.

Memory, storage and mobility

  • Up to 64GB LPDDR5X-8000, fixed to the motherboard.
  • Up to 4TB of storage, generally described as a 2TB-plus-2TB arrangement.
  • 90Wh battery and a 280W power adapter.
  • CNC-milled aluminum chassis, approximately 0.59 inches at its thinnest point and 0.69 inches at its thickest.
  • Weight is approximately 4.6–4.7 pounds, depending on measurement and configuration.

Ports and wireless features on the tested RTX 5090 model

  • Two USB4 Type-C ports and three USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports.
  • HDMI 2.1, microSD card reader and 3.5mm headset jack.
  • Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and a 1080p IR camera.

RTX 5090 performance: powerful, but not unrestricted

The RTX 5090 version is capable at the Blade’s native QHD+ resolution, but the thin chassis limits cooling and power headroom compared with thicker gaming laptops. Tom’s Hardware found that the 28W HX 370 could bottleneck the GPU in CPU-bound workloads and some 1080p gaming. That matters especially to competitive players targeting very high frame rates.

Review results also need careful labeling. In Alan Wake 2, Tom’s Hardware reported roughly 100–140 frames per second with a high-quality preset, ultra ray tracing, DLSS Quality and 4x Frame Generation. Those are settings-assisted figures, not native-rendering results or a guarantee for every game. DLSS upscaling and generated frames should be separated from native raster performance when comparing laptops.

Razer Blade 16 Gaming-Laptop: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 13th Gen Intel 24-Core i9 HX CPU - 16" QHD+ 240Hz 16GB-RAM - 1TB SSD CNC Aluminum Compact GaN-Charger - Windows 11 Chroma RGB
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Graphics: Packed for pure performance with up to 140W TGP

  • QHD+ 240 Hz Display: Experience smooth, responsive gaming that comes with a greater level of detail—enable NVIDIA G-SYNC to eliminate screen tearing for an immersive, stutter-free experience
  • 16 inch Display in a 15 inch Body: Built with similar chassis dimensions to a typical 15” gaming laptop, it's just as ultra-portable yet offers even more screen real estate—a solution that’s the best of both worlds
  • Ultra-Compact GaN Charger (Up to 280W): Stay ready to go with a charger that’s not only faster and more power-efficient than standard adapters, but also up to 60% smaller

Early RTX 50-series drivers also caused games to fail or crash during testing. Driver updates can change compatibility and performance, so launch reviews should not be treated as permanent results. Battery operation will be substantially more constrained than plugged-in use, and long workloads can expose the thermal limits of a thin design.

Is 64GB worth the premium?

Gaming

For gaming alone, 32GB is usually the more sensible target. Paying for 64GB is unlikely to transform ordinary game performance, and the configurator may bundle it with 4TB storage.

Professional and AI workloads

Video editing, 3D applications, virtual machines, large software projects and local AI workflows can benefit from 64GB. The RTX GPU remains the important accelerator for demanding local AI tasks; a 50-TOPS NPU does not replace it.

  • ULTRA-THIN GAMING POWER — Take flagship performance anywhere with a 14.9 mm CNC aluminum design, delivering high-end gaming and creative power in a portable 16-inch laptop built for travel, work, and play

  • NVIDIA RTX 5070 TI GRAPHICS — Experience smooth high FPS and realistic visuals with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti (12GB GDDR7, up to 140W TGP), ideal for modern AAA titles, esports, and creative workloads
  • 240HZ QHD+ OLED DISPLAY — 16" 2560×1600 OLED panel with 240Hz refresh rate, 0.2 ms response time, 16:10 aspect ratio, VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 1000 (up to 1100 nits), and 100% DCI-P3 Calman Verified color for gaming and content creation
  • ADVANCED VAPOR COOLING — Push performance longer with vapor chamber cooling designed for improved thermal efficiency and sustained power during extended gaming or creative sessions

Long ownership

Because the memory is fixed, buying 64GB at checkout is the straightforward way to secure that capacity for the laptop’s lifetime. Treat it as insurance against the lack of expandability, not simply as a gaming-speed upgrade.

Which GPU tier makes sense?

Buyer profile More sensible choice
Competitive gaming at 1080p or 1600p RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080
AAA games at native QHD+ with ray tracing RTX 5080 or RTX 5090
CUDA, rendering, ray tracing or local AI work RTX 5090 if the budget and workload justify it
Frequent travelers Consider a lower GPU tier; every model still carries a large charger, and the 5090 does not make it a charger-free mobile workstation
Value-focused buyers Compare the complete laptop and price, rather than paying automatically for the RTX 5090 badge
Long-term professional use Consider 64GB, while accounting for the forced storage relationship and soldered memory

Thicker RTX 5080 or 5090 laptops may deliver better sustained performance because they can use higher-wattage CPUs and GPUs. An 18-inch desktop replacement is more appropriate when portability is secondary. Clearance or used RTX 4080/4090 laptops can also be rational alternatives, but their value depends on the specific model and condition.

Who should buy the 2025 Blade 16?

  • Traveling creators who need a strong GPU and a color-rich, high-refresh OLED display.
  • Gamers who value a premium aluminum chassis and portability more than maximum sustained wattage.
  • CUDA, rendering and local-AI users who can justify the RTX 5090’s cost and understand its laptop power limits.

Who should skip it?

  • Buyers seeking the best frames-per-dollar.
  • Anyone who needs user-upgradeable RAM.
  • Players whose workloads are mainly CPU-bound or competitive 1080p gaming.
  • Owners who will leave the laptop on a desk and would benefit more from a thicker, better-cooled system.
  • Anyone assuming the $2,799 price includes the flagship configuration.

2025 model versus the current Blade 16

As of August 18, 2026, Razer’s US product page foregrounds a 2026 Intel-based Blade 16 while retaining a comparison entry for the 2025 AMD model. The comparison lists the 2026 model with Intel Core Ultra 9, RTX 5060/5070 options, LPDDR5X-9600 memory and a brighter display. The 2025 Blade 16 is therefore a prior-generation choice, not a newly opened preorder.

Bottom-line buying advice

The 2025 Blade 16 preorder claim was substantially accurate, but its wording compressed an entire configuration ladder into one headline. $2,799 described an entry point; the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, RTX 5090, 64GB and 4TB combination cost roughly $4,899.99. Buy the 2025 model only when its thin chassis, OLED display and AMD platform fit your workload well enough to justify the premium. Otherwise, compare a lower Blade 16 tier, a thicker RTX 5080 system or the current 2026 model.
