Rapid7 announced its acquisition of Kubernetes security provider Alcide on February 1, 2021; its SEC filing records the acquisition date as January 28. Rapid7 said the deal would add Kubernetes-focused cloud workload protection to its cloud security portfolio, complementing its existing cloud security posture management and infrastructure entitlements capabilities.
What Rapid7 announced—and when the acquisition closed
Rapid7’s February 1, 2021, announcement said it had acquired Alcide.IO Ltd., a Kubernetes security provider based in Tel Aviv, Israel. Rapid7’s 2020 Form 10-K records January 28, 2021, as the acquisition date. The announcement date and the date recorded in the filing refer to different points in the transaction timeline.
What Alcide was said to add
Rapid7 characterized Alcide’s technology as cloud workload protection for Kubernetes, integrated into DevOps and the application development lifecycle. Its announcement described capabilities including configuration-risk coverage, visibility across clusters, runtime and network monitoring, policy enforcement, and detection and investigation of security threats. Rapid7 also described behavioral anomaly detection for network activity.
These are Rapid7’s descriptions of Alcide’s product capabilities, not independent assessments of their effectiveness. The strategic distinction was that Alcide addressed workload and Kubernetes security, while Rapid7’s existing cloud capabilities included posture management and infrastructure entitlements.

How Rapid7 described the strategic fit
Rapid7 said Alcide would broaden its cloud security offering by adding cloud workload protection (CWPP) to its cloud security posture management (CSPM) and cloud infrastructure entitlements management (CIEM) capabilities. The stated aim was a more unified approach to cloud-native application security, cloud risk, and compliance.
In July 2021, Rapid7 announced InsightCloudSec as a product bringing together cloud security posture management, infrastructure entitlements management, and infrastructure-as-code capabilities from DivvyCloud, along with Kubernetes security from Alcide. That announcement documents the integration story at launch; it does not establish whether Alcide is offered as a separate product today.

What Rapid7 reported about the purchase price
Rapid7’s acquisition announcement put the purchase price at approximately $50 million, subject to adjustments. Its 2021 Form 10-K later reported $50.5 million funded in cash. These are figures from different reporting points and contexts, so the rounded announcement estimate should not be treated as a contradiction of the later annual-report figure.
