The rate, eligible products and exclusions are set by the live Google Store listing in Rakuten and can change without notice. Before you buy, open that listing, record its rate and terms, and activate cash back before building your cart.
Is Rakuten currently offering Google Store cash back?
Historical coverage documented 2% cash back through Rakuten and a temporary 4% promotion in 2022, with later promotions varying by product, date and account. Those figures are not evidence of the current rate. The currently available Rakuten policy pages explain that merchant rates and exclusions change, but they do not establish a live, store-specific Google Store rate.

Check Rakuten’s exclusions page and the Google Store merchant listing immediately before checkout. The listing should show whether the offer is labeled “Cash Back,” “Up to” a percentage, “Coupons Only” or “No Discount,” along with any expiration date. A general Rakuten retailer page is not proof that every Google Store product qualifies.
For context, historical 2% and 4% Google Store rates were reported by 9to5Google; they should be treated as historical only.

What “all Google Store purchases” usually excludes
Unless the merchant terms explicitly say otherwise, “all purchases” generally means eligible net merchandise, not every dollar charged to your card. Rakuten’s terms and conditions and exclusions guidance generally exclude or may exclude the following:
- Sales tax, shipping, fees and gift wrapping
- Returns, cancellations, partial refunds and some exchanges
- Extended warranties or protection plans
- Gift cards and amounts paid with gift certificates or store credit
- Unlisted promotional or coupon codes
- Products, brands, launches, preorders or categories named in the Google Store offer’s exclusions
Open “See all Terms & Exclusions” on the live Rakuten offer and check the exact item you intend to buy. Potentially covered categories include Pixel phones and Fold devices, Pixel Watch, Pixel Buds, Nest cameras and doorbells, Nest speakers and displays, Google TV products, chargers and accessories—but only the current merchant terms decide. How to activate the reward without losing tracking
- Sign in to Rakuten.
- Open the Google Store offer and read its rate, product exclusions and coupon rules.
- Click Shop Now, or activate through the Rakuten Cash Back Button.
- After activation, add products to the cart and complete checkout in the tab or app session Rakuten opened.
- Use only coupon codes listed by Rakuten unless the merchant terms expressly allow another code.
- Save screenshots of the rate and exclusions, plus the activation confirmation, order confirmation and final eligible subtotal.
Rakuten says that other coupon sites, shopping-reward portals and browser extensions can interfere with referral tracking. Disable competing tools such as other shopping extensions, avoid private browsing or switching browsers, and do not complete the order through a separate tab, phone or customer-service channel if the terms exclude assisted orders. Calculate the reward from the eligible merchandise subtotal, using the rate displayed when you activate—not from the total card charge.

These examples exclude tax, shipping and other ineligible amounts. A return, cancellation or later retailer rejection can remove or recalculate the reward.
Can Rakuten cash back be combined with Google Store deals?
Stacking depends on both sets of terms. Rakuten-listed coupons may be compatible with cash back, while an outside coupon can make the transaction ineligible. Google Store promotions can separately restrict combining codes or bundle offers. Review the specific promotion at Google Store offers or the offer collection.

- Google One benefits: Check the current U.S. plan and benefit terms at Google One; do not assume a current percentage.
- Credit-card rewards: A card-linked offer may add value, subject to that card’s activation and merchant-coding rules.
- Another cash-back portal: Use one portal only; competing referrals can overwrite attribution.
Tracked does not mean payable
Rakuten rewards typically move through separate stages:
- Pending or tracked: Rakuten detected a shopping trip or transaction.
- Confirmed: Google Store validated the order after applying its return and eligibility rules.
- Payable: Rakuten has released the amount under your account’s payment schedule and redemption options.
Historical reporting described Google Store rewards being processed after shipment, but do not rely on that timing unless the current merchant terms state it. A pending entry can still be rejected after a return, cancellation, excluded item, unlisted coupon or tracking conflict.

What to do if the cash back is missing
- Check that the order was placed after Rakuten activation and in the same session.
- Compare the order date, merchant, subtotal and items with the saved activation evidence.
- Check whether you used an outside coupon, store credit, gift card, customer-service checkout or a competing extension.
- Wait for shipment or retailer validation if the order is still within the normal pending period shown in your Rakuten account.
- Submit Rakuten’s missing-cash-back claim with the order confirmation, itemized subtotal and shopping-trip details.

Rakuten describes its payout model at Rakuten.com. Google’s U.S. Store-credit restrictions, including non-transferability and no cash exchange, are described by Google Support.
When using Rakuten makes sense
- Use it when the live rate is meaningful, your exact product is eligible and you can follow the tracking rules.
- Compare the portal reward with Google’s sale price, trade-in value, financing terms and return policy.
- Prefer Google Store credit or a Google One benefit when you already expect to make another Google purchase and its value exceeds a flexible cash reward.
- Do not subscribe, open a card or choose a higher-priced seller solely for a small, uncertain reward.
The Bottom Line
Rakuten has supported Google Store cash back historically, but “all purchases” is not established without the live merchant listing. Verify the rate and product exclusions immediately before checkout, activate Rakuten first, avoid outside coupons and competing portals, and keep proof of the shopping trip.
