Life Electric Vehicles Holdings, Inc. (Life EV) now owns the Rad Power Bikes brand and specified assets after completing a court-approved purchase from the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy process. The deal covers the brand, intellectual property, inventory and certain operating assets—not the former Rad Power Bikes company with every liability automatically transferred. Life EV says it will keep U.S. retail operations under the Rad name, while domestic assembly and store expansion remain plans rather than completed results.

What happened to Rad Power Bikes?

Rad Power Bikes filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December 2025. GeekWire reported that Life EV was the highest bidder at a January 22, 2026 auction and that the court-approved transaction closed in early March. Life EV’s announcement, dated March 5 and published March 6, says the acquired property includes the Rad Power Bikes brand, intellectual property, inventory and certain operating assets.

That structure matters for customers and creditors. This was an asset acquisition, not a purchase of the old company intact or an assumption of all of its liabilities. Rights and obligations depend on the asset-purchase agreement, the bankruptcy process and any policy Life EV separately publishes.

Who owns Rad Power Bikes now?

Life EV owns the Rad Power Bikes brand following the court-approved sale. Life EV President Jim Brown called the transaction “an important new chapter” and said the company intends to strengthen operations, product development and support for the rider community. CEO Rob Provost described Rad as a brand that helped define the North American e-bike category; that is the buyer’s characterization, not an independent finding.

How much did Life EV pay?

Published figures are not identical, and the available disclosures do not explain whether they use different scopes or accounting treatments.

Source and date Reported amount What it describes
GeekWire, March 5, 2026 $13.2 million Reported sale price in its account of the court-approved transaction.
Rad Life offering materials hosted by the SEC, filed August 2026 Approximately $14.9 million Later description of the acquisition, including the brand, intellectual property, inventory, retail footprint and digital infrastructure.

Neither figure should be presented as a reconciled final total without further disclosure. The difference may reflect different definitions of purchase consideration or included assets, but the cited materials do not establish that.

What continues for riders and stores?

U.S. retail operations

Life EV said it would continue U.S. retail operations under the Rad Power Bikes brand and expand in selected markets. GeekWire reported seven remaining stores on March 5, 2026: Ballard in Seattle; Berkeley, Huntington Beach, Santa Barbara and San Diego in California; Denver; and Salt Lake City. That was a contemporaneous reported count, not a current store-locator result, so availability may have changed.

Employees and Seattle operations

GeekWire said it had asked Life EV about remaining Seattle employees and hometown operations but had not received details when it published its article. The available information does not establish which employees continued, whether all locations remain open or how local service operations are organized.

Are Rad bikes being made in the United States?

Life EV announced a plan to transition production to U.S.-based affiliated manufacturing operations using a Foreign Trade Zone structure. The company described integrating sourcing, assembly, quality control, inventory management and distribution. Those are announced plans; the transaction information does not demonstrate that the transition has been completed or that every Rad model is now assembled domestically.

What happens to Rad warranties and service?

The current official warranty page from Rad Life Mobility distinguishes newer U.S. and Canadian purchases from products bought before the bankruptcy period.

  • Purchases after May 15, 2026: The page says Rad Life Mobility’s limited warranty generally provides two years, subject to its listed exclusions and conditions, for Rad-branded products purchased in the United States or Canada.
  • Purchases before December 15, 2025: The page says Rad Life Mobility has no obligation to provide warranty or other service because of the bankruptcy asset-sale process. Customers with claims tied to those purchases are directed to submit them through the bankruptcy claims process.
  • Purchases from December 15, 2025 through May 14, 2026: The cited policy does not establish a general rule for this date range. Owners should check the latest policy and obtain written guidance before assuming coverage.

The same page says the company is reviewing possible discretionary upgrade policies or services for older purchases but does not promise that those programs will be offered. Life EV’s acquisition announcement separately said it intended post-closing customer programs, including honoring certain warranties and gift cards in accordance with the asset-purchase agreement. “Certain” is important: the announcement does not mean every legacy warranty or gift card was assumed.

What existing owners should do now

  1. Identify the purchase date, country of purchase, model and seller shown on your receipt.
  2. Check the current Rad Life Mobility warranty terms and compare your date with the stated May 15, 2026 and December 15, 2025 cutoffs.
  3. Keep receipts, serial numbers, photographs and prior service correspondence.
  4. For a pre-December 15, 2025 claim, follow the bankruptcy claims instructions rather than assuming the new owner must pay for service.
  5. For a newer claim, ask the seller or Rad Life Mobility to confirm eligibility and the applicable exclusions in writing.

Why the acquisition matters financially

Rad’s bankruptcy provides the context for the sale. GeekWire, citing the bankruptcy filing, reported gross revenue of $129.8 million in 2023 and $103.8 million in 2024. Those historical figures help explain the financial backdrop but do not predict Life EV’s results, future prices or the brand’s eventual store network.

For consumers, the practical issue is continuity: a recognizable brand and some retail presence continue, but service obligations, store availability and manufacturing location depend on the specific policy and on plans that Life EV still has to execute.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
