PlayStation Canada confirmed a launch price of $959.99 CAD for the PS5 Pro on September 10, 2024, according to MobileSyrup. That is a historical price, not a verified current Canadian price: Sony’s March 2026 price notice does not state a Canadian amount.
What the $959.99 Canadian price covered
The $959.99 CAD figure was the PS5 Pro’s reported Canadian launch price. Sony announced the console on September 10, 2024, with pre-orders scheduled to begin September 26 and availability on November 7, 2024. Sony’s announcement described a disc-less console with a 2TB SSD, one DualSense controller and Astro’s Playroom pre-installed. Sony also said a Disc Drive was sold separately; MobileSyrup reported its Canadian launch price as $99.99 CAD. Both amounts are launch-era figures, not confirmation of what either item costs now.
For someone who wants to play physical PS5 or PS4 discs, the console price alone did not cover the drive. The drive’s present price and availability should be checked with Canadian retailers before budgeting for a purchase.
Is $959.99 still the current PS5 Pro price in Canada?
It is not established by the available current price information. Sony’s March 27, 2026 price notice says revised prices took effect April 2, 2026 in the United States, United Kingdom, Europe and Japan. For other territories, it directs customers to local retailers or PlayStation Direct where available. The notice does not list a Canadian PS5 Pro price, so neither the 2024 amount nor another country’s revised amount should be presented as Canada’s current price.

What you are paying for
The Pro is a higher-spec version of the PS5, but its advertised improvements should be understood as Sony’s claims rather than independent benchmark results. Sony says the GPU has 67% more compute units and memory is 28% faster than the then-current PS5, enabling up to 45% faster rendering. It also says ray-tracing speeds can be double or triple those of that console. Those comparisons do not guarantee a particular frame rate or image-quality improvement in every game.

Sony identifies an upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), its AI-driven upscaling technology, as key features. The console also supports variable refresh rate (VRR) and 8K gaming; Wi-Fi 7 support depends on whether the standard is supported in the territory, and Sony says the Canadian product page also lists compatibility with Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 5 routers.
Game support affects the value
Sony says enhanced Pro features are available only in selected PS5 games and vary by title. Its Game Boost feature may stabilize or improve performance in more than 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games, but that does not mean every title will run better. The practical question is whether the games you actually play have Pro enhancements or benefit from Game Boost—not just whether a game is available on PS5.

Sony says the Pro is compatible with currently available PS5 accessories, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. It also says the interface and network services remain the same as PS5.

Compare the Pro’s current Canadian price with what you would otherwise spend, including any accessories or storage you need. A useful decision is based on your play habits and setup, rather than treating the launch price as a current quote.
Rank #4
- Physical games: Add the separately sold Disc Drive if you want to use disc-based games or media, and verify its current price and compatibility before purchase.
- Your game library: Look up whether the titles you play have specific PS5 Pro enhancements; benefits are not uniform across games.
- Your display and preferences: Consider whether you value higher-fidelity graphics, smoother frame rates, ray tracing, VRR or 8K support with your display and the games you play.
- Existing hardware: If you already own a PS5, weigh the Pro’s game-dependent improvements against the cost of upgrading. If you are buying a console for the first time, compare the complete cost of each setup, including any disc drive or storage expansion you expect to need.
Sony lists additional storage among PS5 buying options, but no particular M.2 SSD model or current Canadian accessory price is established here. Check Sony’s compatibility requirements and retailer prices before adding storage to your budget.
