Pophouse—not ABBA—bought KISS’s rights package. The Swedish entertainment and music-investment company announced the transaction on April 4, 2024. The deal covers KISS music, brand name, likeness, trademarks and visual identity, while its price was not officially disclosed. Media reports put the value at more than $300 million.
Who bought KISS’s rights?
The buyer is Pophouse Entertainment, a Swedish entertainment and music-investment company. Pophouse was a founding investor in the ABBA Voyage avatar concert in London, which is why headlines often describe this as a sale to the “company behind ABBA Voyage.” ABBA itself was not identified as the purchaser.

The transaction concerns KISS’s commercial rights. It does not mean ABBA bought the band, and the public announcement does not describe ABBA as a participant in KISS’s ownership or management.
What rights were included?
Pophouse described a broad package intended to preserve and develop KISS’s music, personas and imagery for new audiences. That is wider than a straightforward purchase of sound recordings.

What does this mean for “publishing” rights?
Some coverage refers to the transaction as a publishing sale because “music catalogue” can encompass composition copyrights as well as recorded masters. However, the announcement does not identify which songs, publishing interests or ownership percentages changed hands. It is therefore not possible to state a more detailed publishing breakdown from the public record.
How much did KISS sell the rights for?
Media coverage, including Associated Press reporting, estimated the transaction at more than $300 million. That is a reported estimate, not a confirmed purchase price: Pophouse’s official announcement did not disclose the amount.

No public terms establish whether the figure includes deferred payments, royalties, earn-outs, debt or separate values for recordings, trademarks and image rights. Without those terms, the estimate cannot be converted into a reliable per-song or per-right valuation.

Pophouse said the purpose of the partnership was to amplify KISS’s legacy while preserving its music, personas and expressive imagery. The announcements do not establish ticket prices, production budgets, revenue splits or a guaranteed opening date for any of these projects.
Why is ABBA Voyage part of the story?
Pophouse’s connection to ABBA Voyage provides strategic context, not a change in ownership. Pophouse identifies itself as a founding investor in the London avatar concert and says the production has sold 3,000,000 tickets. That ticket figure is a current corporate claim and should not be treated as an independent valuation of the KISS deal.

Associated Press reporting said Pophouse chief executive Per Sundin expected the KISS avatar show to be different from ABBA Voyage rather than a copy of it. The KISS production therefore has its own creative concept, even though both projects use digital-performance technology.

Gene Simmons told the Associated Press, “I don’t like the word acquisition,” and described the arrangement as a collaboration with a company KISS appreciated. Pophouse also called it a partnership.

That language explains how the parties presented the relationship publicly, but it does not reveal the legal economics. The available announcement does not specify which members retain approvals, how decisions will be made or whether KISS receives continuing participation in project revenues.
What the deal means as an entertainment asset
One buyer can coordinate several rights
Control of recordings, compositions where applicable, trademarks, likeness and visual designs can let one owner coordinate streaming, licensing, merchandise, screen projects and live or immersive experiences. It can also reduce the need to negotiate separately with different rights holders for each use. Those are potential commercial advantages, not guaranteed returns.
The price cannot be judged from the headline alone
A reported value above $300 million does not show how much was paid for the music itself versus brand, image and future-project rights. The absence of a public rights schedule and payment structure makes comparisons with recording-only catalogue sales unreliable.
The underlying brand has substantial historical reach
Pophouse said KISS had sold more than 100 million records worldwide. That is a sales-history figure supplied by Pophouse, not an appraisal of the assets transferred or a forecast for the new projects.
